[ JOB LISTING ] Funds processor

[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star gaia_star

[ TASK ] Crane would like you to take over for a sick employee in order to gauge your skills and also because time is money and a missing employee means missing possible money. It's time to do a little processing in order to prove your worth.

[ MECHANICS ] Roll 3d6 and match your results below. You may only take on two clients a day (two rolls).

  • Two matching numbers - You did all right. Not terribly, not fantastically, but you managed to at least get several things processed - and on time, to boot. There was a troublesome customer [ please rp this out ], but you managed to do well! ( pass )

  • All three matching numbers (except 6,6,6) - You did AMAZING. Crane is so impressed with your work that he decides to give you a pre-holiday bonus. He watches as you skillfully handle irate customers and confused patrons, especially one customer in particular who seems not to understand how banks work... [ please rp this out ] ( pass )

  • All three random numbers - You're average. Unremarkable. Dull. Crane seems very disappointed; he watches as you sluggishly move from patron to patron, but he leaves before your shift is over - which only settles in his lack of interest in you, even if you did manage to process a customer who likes to scream [ please rp this out ]. ( fail )

  • Sequential numbers (does not have to be directly in order - i.e. 2,3,1 is fine) - You're nothing spectacular, but Crane still seems to find you interesting, and perhaps a little amusing. He's observing your progress, and while you start off rocky when dealing with a customer who thinks money comes before breakfast [ please rp this out ], by the end of your temporary shift, you've got a knack for things. ( pass )

  • 6, 6, 6 - You do so badly that Crane seems on the verge of throwing you out. He's not angry, per say, but he's wearing an expression that shows he is extremely displeased - and this coming from a man who does not like to be displeased. ( fail )

The bank was a very large, very daunting, and very magnificent place. And if Issos had been anyone else, he probably would have been a little intimidated by the sheer amount of glossy charcoal floors and glass gold fixtures and the imperious, intense stare of the Bank President himself, Crane, or what have you.

But Issos was nothing if not entirely at ease most of the time. His relaxed and personable attitude was something he was entirely comfortable with, and for once, knew to be something of a fact. It wasn't arrogance; it was just how it was, and he was okay with it.

Which turned out to be a good thing, because being a funds processor was exceedingly dull work. Issos was debating taking all of the papers currently stacked on his temporary desk and shoving them out of the nearest window, but that would have been stupid, and besides, he wasn't angry about the fact that Crane had not even stayed for half of his shift before leaving.

The screaming aside, it was dreadfully dull work, and Issos was glad to be done with it.

Until the afternoon shift, that was.

While the afternoon shift somehow wasn't quite as tedious as the morning, it was still relatively dull work. Issos found himself settling into a rhythm as he pushed the papers around, moving the "in-progress" ones into the "completed" stack with a robotic and automatic sort of movement that he could sort of zone out and think about other things during. His fingers moved instinctively, his body relaxed and at ease as he sorted, Issos' mind far from the numbers and figures and other confusing information on the paper.

He was definitely not thinking of Otto again. And he was definitely not thinking of Otto while he was nodding along mechanically to a patron who had decided that the volume of her speaking voice should be several decibels above normal.

06.10.17

The screaming really needed to stop.

"Sir," said Issos, for what felt like the third time in as many minutes. His voice, as ever, was level and calm, without a single ounce of annoyance or negativity in it; Issos didn't care much for showing a great deal of emotion in the first place. The man's voice, on the other hand, was raised to a pitch that probably only dogs, birds, and stupid people could hear, his face almost purple with his own emotion, ugly with a rage that really, Issos thought vaguely, ought to be dispensed with.

"Don't call me sir, I have a name, and you've messed up all of my funds and that's messed up my day - "

"Sir."

" - and I can't believe that you've done this to me, I should call your manager - "

Crane had already left, which wasn't surprising. It wasn't as though Issos was doing anything spectacular, but at least he wasn't doing terrible work. He slid a stack of papers from one side of the desk, shuffled a stapler over to its proper place next to the tape dispenser, and made sure all the pens were neatly in their little black cup.

"Are you even listening to me - "

The man's voice had raised another few octaves. Issos said placidly, "Yes, sir, I am," and the rant continued for several more minutes.

Eventually he stalked off. Issos simply went back to work.

It was a day very similar to his previous day. He'd done the work, and done well, though it wasn't anything spectacular. Still, Issos thought he'd managed to raise the bar a little from before, especially when he'd dealt with the couple at the end of the day who'd thought that walking in five minutes before closing with a stack of paperwork the size of a Death Guardian was a good thing to do. And they hadn't accepted Issos' repeated, bland explanations that the bank was closing ( "It's not even five yet, it's still only four fifty-six, how are you closed already?!" ), or that he'd already shut down the computer systems ( "The bank is still open!! Why would you shut it down?!" ), or really anything else that he said.

It was okay. Everything was fine. and he was done after he'd unceremoniously and as politely as possible shuffled the irate customers out the door with a gracious, winning smile that left them, if it was even possible, even more annoyed than before.

But he was only temporary help, after all; he didn't need to come back and he wouldn't be fired, so there were really no problems.
