06.09.17This was, quite possibly, if Issos was being entirely serious with himself, the hardest thing that he had done yet in terms of jobs within the human realm. He was not the sort of person to be content in sitting down for long periods of time while staring at a screen. Sitting down to make his jewelry, yes. Sitting down to draw, absolutely. Sitting down to think about the horseman with the pretty blue eyes and the pale blond hair...
Too often, but Issos wasn't about to think of that - or him - at the present moment, not when he was presented with a conundrum of a problem at his current position as a software developer. Dark eyes stared meaningfully at the screen in front of him, as though if he willed it hard enough, the answer would come right out and slap him in the face.
There were too many numbers. Issos winced a little, then lifted a hand and rubbed at his eyes.
There was a closing tag somewhere in this mess and he was going to find it, damn it.Quote: - You write a huge swathe of code using the helper program but somewhere in the 5000 lines is an unclosed tag which you must find.

The latter half of the day went surprisingly well, much better than the former half, which was saying a lot. Issos' eyes still hurt from staring dismally at the damned screen and trying to figure out where the singular missing key had been. It had taken hours upon hours of going through each line of coding before he had finally managed to get it, Issos triumphant in his success.
The pleasure at finally doing well was bolstered by the fact that he also did well in the afternoon. Issos spent quite a surprisingly enjoyable time coming up with the project for the leads to work on. It had taken a great deal of time and effort, but one thing Issos was was clever; and he was inordinately pleased with himself by the end of the day.
(He still preferred jewelry making, however.)Quote: You help to develop one of the major projects going on at the HQ and it all goes nice and well.

06.10.17Why did this job hate him so much.
Or more importantly, why had he even decided to come back to this job in the first place? It wasn't as though he needed to, although it was a nice benefit, he supposed. He had done well as it was when it came to the coding, though it seemed like yesterday's problem had since turned into today's problem, and now Issos was staring dismally at a screen once more and slowly tapping away at the keyboard in the hopes of finding that one singular missing closing tag.
It was extremely dull work. Issos took a few moments out of said extremely dull work in order to pretend that he was somewhere else, like back in his room, or sitting on the carpet outside in the lush grass and talking to Otto. Or maybe he was drawing, or making that jewelry he had promised - he did have so many ideas for it, it was a little ridiculous - anything to keep his mind occupied and away from the endless tedium of information inputting.
He found the missing closing tag approximately an hour and a half after he'd first started looking for it, which was less time than Issos had expected and more time than he had actually wanted to spend on something entirely unproductive.Quote: You write a huge swathe of code using the helper program but somewhere in the 5000 lines is an unclosed tag which you must find.

On the bonus side of things, for the latter half of the afternoon, it had once again gone better than expected. Issos was not inclined to go into a career involving coding or computer screens or talking about coding or computer screens, but he at least felt satisfied. He'd been a productive member of the company, at the very least, even if that productivity had been interspersed with random daydreams and thoughts of simply tipping the computer out of the window and hoping for the best.
He was a good employee. He did his work and he did it well, something that Issos was damn proud of, all things considered. He hadn't done nothing, after all, which had to count for something. And he did like the praise that he got for doing so well, though he didn't search for it or really need it; it was just a nice bonus.
Maybe next time he'd find a better job, but it wasn't half bad here.
