Isabelle has entrusted you with a new security clearance, allowing you to do work in the more secretive Experimental arm of the labs. Your lab specimens today are hidden inside of a room with no windows and no door you have access to. With you is a lab station with several substances, a computer with extensive readouts, and a file on your specimen. The room is oddly soundproof to all things.
Roll 2d20. You must combine substances into a mixture that causes harm . You must successfully craft and administer this concoction to succeed. After creating the mixture, you slide the syringe into a slot and simply wait to see the results.
You may attempt this 3 times per day.
You must sign an NDA to work in this branch, a non-disclosure agreement that binds you from talking too freely about the work done due to the cutting edge technology, but you are welcome to chat freely with other techs. This means you may write with a friend if you like. Feel free to explore any moral implications with these tests.
Match each individual dice to the below. You may choose what sort of "animal" is within the room from the following list: chicken, chimpanzee, dog, guinea pig, horse, mouse.
Mixtures: • 1-4: The solution is viscous, vibrant red, and reeks of metal. • 5-8: The mixture is runny, dim green, and smells of a boggy swamp. • 9-12: The mixture does not come together. Fail, try again. • 13-16: The acidic liquid is translucent blue, and cloudy. It has no odor. • 17-20: The substance is entirely black, as if a hole was there rather than matter. It smells of sulfur.
Effects: • 1-4: The target's readings go haywire for a moment, but they soon recover. Fail, try again. • 5-8: The vital signs slow until they remain low enough to be considered an induced coma. Success. • 9-12: The readings are unclear, suddenly distorting as if affected by a magnetic field. Success. • 13-16: While the room is sound proof, you can still hear echoes of nightmarish screams. Success. Please quote Its Me Debz for a reward. • 17-20: The specimen has broken loose from the room. Please evacuate and consider this a success.
After your day has concluded, please fill out the following form describing your experience here at Bates Diagnostics. Your happiness is important to us. (Answers may be brief.)

Terr was used to this by now. Promising to say nothing but still reading the contracts before signing them because it pays to be careful. He didn't need to be led this time, knowing the route to the testing area he was more than ready to begin mixing the concoction for harm.
What he was not ready for was to do it with company. He stopped in his tracks, blank expression the only thing saving him from expressing surprise and possibly disappointment. He rather enjoyed being by himself on these things and what's more he didn't recognize the Conquest Horseman.
Terr Death Horseman; Jeweler Wild Arcana (formerly The Hermit) Journal - 6"0 tall - Workaholic - Stoic on the outside, geek on the inside - Tendency to forget to eat/sleep/bathe when working
Today was her first day attempting lab work, and Tanita was... a bit nervous, to be honest. That said, she refused to let her nerves cow her, she was a proud Horsewoman and she could do this. She hoped, anyways, and so she had walked into the Lab she had been assigned to, and was very surprised when some one else walked in too. She had no idea who this Death Horseman was but that was ok, she didn't mind meeting new people... And maybe he'd done this before, so he might have some experience and maybe even some advice that her newbie self could use!
"Ah! Um, hello there. I am Tanita, and this is my first time on this particular job." She gave him a friendly grin, with a hint of hopefullness. "Do you, by any chance, have any advice for a new Lab Tech? Heck, advice for anyone new working here at Bates? I've never worked here at all, really, before." She sat up straight, her eyes bright and friendly as she gazed at her unexpected companion. She had tied her hair up into a nice, TIGHT bun, not wanting to risk anything getting into the experiments she was going to be working on. She had her lab coat buttoned up properly, and was, for once, wearing something not a kimono. She had found a nice pair of cotton pants and a white cotton shirt, and some close toed shoes. She hated them, of course, as she definitely preferred her geta, but she had a feeling they weren't safe in this situation.

Terr did not express emotions very often, so whether he was happy or sad or angry it was rarely ever evident. It was a carefully honed skill that, over the countless years, had become second nature to the jewelry maker. And so when he answered the Conquest Horseman's questions, he was direct to the point and absolutely monotone about it the whole time.
"Terr. This would be my third time at this job. I am not confident enough in my abilities for this task to guarantee that my assistance will not make things worse for you. However, I will answer your questions as best as I can."
A beat.
"I am not entirely certain I would be allowed to discuss previous experiments and their results given the non-disclosure agreement we are required to sign. Nevertheless, if I am able to assist you, I will."
Terr was in heels. This was the only job he genuinely felt comfortable wearing them in.
She moved over to her assigned station and settled on the stool set in front of it. "Ah I see. Well, I had no intention of asking actual questions about them, more on... Methodology? Things, perhaps, you would advise not doing, etc." She pulled the file on her specimen towards herself as she did so, and opened it up, perusing the pages curiously. Nothing in particular stood out to her, so she turned back towards the selection of chemicals for her experiment. "So have you enjoyed working here at Bates, the times you've done it, Terr?" She asked, in a friendly and curious tone. "This seems the most... interesting... of the jobs I've done recently, so I'm curious as to how others who've done it like it."
She paused, and added "By the way, I like your shoes. I don't think I could pull them off. I mean, I'm tall enough to begin with, and I think I'd be utterly awkward in them. I always am amazed by those who actually have the skill to walk in shoes like that." She frowned, adding a black chemical, a deep red one, and a blue one together, and closed the vial, trying to get it to blend by shaking it up. She frowned deeply as she kept shaking, before setting her vial down, staring at it in frustration. "Blast, I think I must have chosen something wrong... This just wont blend right. It's just staying in it's... colorful layers." She put the vial into the toxic waste bin, looking frustrated.
Terr nodded in thanks at the praise for his choice of footwear, "Several days." he said, as if that was enough of a narration of how long it took him to not exactly master, insomuch as learn how to walk in them without breaking his ankle, losing his balance and toppling over to nearly squash another Horseman in the process.
It wasn't that he needed the height. He was quite tall already but. They made him feel attractive in ways he doesn't regularly allow himself to feel. "Practice in private. On uneven surfaces. Start off near a wall with handles."
Although given the face that he proceeded to make the mixture, his co-worker might misconstrue his description of how he learned to walk in heels as his secret to fulfilling the task at hand.
Tani hmmm'd thoughtfully, listening to Terr's words. For a long moment, she couldn't tell what, exactly, he was giving her advice on, before deciding it must be heels. She couldn't figure out, after all, what uneven surfaces or walls with handles might have to do with blending chemicals to get a good experiment. "I see. That sounds like a good way to learn. Perhaps I'll try." She pondered, as she began another mixture, this time trying to use chemicals of a similar color. She had no idea if this would have any effect, but maybe similar colors would mean similar substances, at least to the level of being able to blend with each other.
"Have you tried Geta? Are regular heels anything like them?" She found geta easy enough to wear, because the height was balanced on each end, at least in her mind. "Hmm..." She murmured as she began to carefully shake the current vial she was working on. After about five minutes of careful shaking, she grinned, pleased, at the fact that she had a successful mixture. "Ahah! This one worked out ever so much better." She attached it properly to the syringe, and grinned at Terr. "You ready to take these mixtures for a ride?" She opened her slot, an eager and fascinated expression on her face. "I'm pretty sure it's time to inject the animal." She wondered how the chimpanzee inside was going to react. Was this going to work out, or would her mixture just be another failure?
Terr shook his head, "Weight distribution's different. Pressure is primarily on the ball of the feet rather than spread out, I imagine your Geta allows you to spread your weight evenly?"
He did refrain from admitting that he didn't quite like the look of them, even if there was some promise to the footwear as weapons. As the serums were administered, the animals within the cages began to thrash and violently buck at the metal.
Terr hadn't seen this reaction before but when he heard the groan of metal, he said, with all the urgency of someone reading a phone book, "I suggest we leave post-haste." And as further emphasis, he began to run. In heels. And wasn't tripping on anything.

"Ah, that's good to know. Yeah, that might be hard for me, I think." She looked down at herself, and her overly frontwards balanced... front. "I think I'll stick with my geta, then. Elegant enough for my tastes, and lots of breathing room for the skin. Feels nice, and it feels healthier then enclosing them. To me, anyways." She sighed a little. "But I wish I had the skills to wear such lovely shoes as those. They have so many kinds, and they're just so lovely." She shook her head, and shrugged, accepting that high heels were not in her future. Better to accept her fate as it was, and learn to love what she could have.
She watched as the syringes slid into their slots and down. When she could hear the metal of the rooms their animals were in beginning to groan, her eyes went huge. "What did we... manage to do...?" When he suggested they leave, she blinked for a moment, then her brain caught up and she RAN hard after him. She was, no lie, impressed by his ability to not trip at all in those heels. In her mind, he was quite the elegant mover, given his skills and what he was wearing. She just found herself grateful that she'd managed to think out a good outfit in advance for this. She was able to run, not worry about loosing any of her things, AND not worry about slipping, as her shoes had damn fine traction.
When they made it outside, Terr asked for another copy of the appraisal forms for himself and Tani. "Here," he said and handed one over while he proceeded to answer his own.

She turned her form in, and beamed at Terr. "Once again, thank you! I had an interesting time at work today, and learned interesting things from you about high heels. I appreciate you answering my questions. Want to get some tea before going home?" She might have no clue that he had been humoring her this whole time.
