Quote: LOCATION: The War Common Floor YOUR CHARACTER'S GOAL: Learning how to behave like a Human by reading Merriam Webster's dictionary WEATHER (Where Applicable): It is currently is for some reason snowing in a giant snowglobe of white War had gotten their floor back up and running it seemed. Bjorn knew that Death's at the very least still needed some sprucing up, but he had done quite a bit and was in need of a break. Besides, he had found something curious after checking on one of the prisoners on the War Floor. Whether it was a possession of one of their captives or simply happened to be part of the pile of objects always around for perusal, a certain book had caught his eye.
Now, he had no idea who the hell Merriam Webster was, but the book was large and contained one of the most important tools they could have against humans: words and their definitions. Bjorn had been struggling to understand simple things like the technology they were piggybacking off the Human World, and so this was a godsend. But some of these words were just...
"Bae," he recited aloud, face quite close to the page as the print was small. "A person's boyfriend or girlfriend, often as a form of address." He squinted. "Example: Bae just made me tacos. What the hell..."

With War's floor back up and running functionally, no thanks to Efreet who had been too distracted by jobs he didn't understand to contribute to the solution, the short-ish warrior was making his way across the common room when he spotted a slightly unfamiliar face.
Excitement lit up his face as he wandered over, grinning as he spotted what the man held in his hand.
A book! Books were full of knowledge and things he didn't understand! Which, when it came to the way the human world work was a lot of things...but hey! He tried and that's what counted!
"Hey there!" Efreet chirped, springing into the space near his newly chosen companion. "Learning about some cool human words?" He caught the curtail of what he'd read.
"Does your bae make you tacos?" He had no idea what he was saying, but he felt like parroting back the example. It seemed like an okay conversation starter, bless his heart.

Bjorn looked up from the book and blinked. "I am not sure that 'cool' is the best descriptor," he said with some amusement. "But it is certainly modern. Have you ever read any works of Merriam Webster? They seem to know every word in the human's English language, which is an astounding feat if you ask me..."

Sometimes, Efreet struggled with the concept of modern and he shrugged as he squinted at the book. "Nah, reading isn't - " It certainly wasn't his thing, because it wasn't his forte. "S'not a favorite but, that one sounds worth looking at."
The book looked so small if it contained all the human's english words. "How does it fit all of that in there? It's so tiny."

"The text is very small, you see." He turned and showed the book to the other horseman. "I am having to squint to read, but it is all there in vivid detail, with examples! For instance, they call other humans they are sweet on 'bae', which is an acronym for 'before anyone else,'" Bjorn explained. "It sounds terribly silly to me. There is nothing wrong with calling them your mate, or your lover!" But then, Bjorn was rather old-fashioned and grumpy about modern things. "But this tome contains a wealth of knowledge. Here, you can see." He offered the book.

Efreet had to lean in, clearly squinting at the page, when he was shown the book. Eyes skimmed the first few rows before he jerked back and shook his head, already feeling the small throb of an oncoming headache beginning to form.
Well, that was unpleasant.
"An acronym..." He mumbled, trying to remember what such a word meant but then Bjorn was explaining what Bae stood for and - oh, that sorta made sense.
"Human's are weird." He deduced, having no problem declaring the obvious to his companion. "Why do they need so many extra words for the same thing?" His nose wrinkled in confusion, slow brain trying to process it all.
"O-oh," he squeaked when the book was offered to him. Hastily, black inky fingers scrambled to gather the book in his hand and he mindlessly thumbed through pages.
"It's, um, interest? Dunno, reading's not....my thing?" He shrugged, looking a bit helpless.

"I think the word is 'nuance'," Bjorn exposited, pleased to be showing off his expanded vocabulary. "Not every words means the same thing. It is good to be 'in the know' when it comes to the human language, as it has evolved and continues to!" Hands now free, he clasped the other horseman's shoulder. "But I agree: putting the practice in action would be preferable to reading about it. I am thinking of visiting the human world to practice. Would you like to come with me?"

Bjorn was education him on a new, and fancy, word and Efreet's face lit up with excitement. Okay, so maybe it wasn't quite excitement but he seemed to be in awe that the other horseman knew such a word.
Even if he didn't like reading, perhaps he ought to keep this book by Merriam Webster and spend a few minute (likely hours) looking over the various words. He wanted to seem cool and smart too!
"Yah, yah," he agreed, head nodding furiously to accompany the words. That made sense, the more they knew about the human the better infiltration they could do.
The proposition had startled him, resulting in several rapid blinks before he looked utterly delighted.
"Dude, that would be like - amazing." He replied, perhaps a bit too enthusiastically. "Yeah, man. Let's do it."
