[ JOB LISTING ] Treatment Center
[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star gaia_star
[ TASK ] Aid spa specialists in their innovative treatments by helping handle and feed the wholly organic swarms of healthful helpers provided by nature in all its mystery. (Warning : Insect & Worm Prompts)

The human staff has gone tragically missing, but all new ventures are bound for a few hiccups. The treatment keepers have taken to pulling in any idle horsemen found at the spa or even in the Dusk to come spend a shift helping feed and care for the spa's special swarms of cultivated insects and unusual plant life.

Roll 2d6 and complete the 2 prompts
  1. You're set to supervise a tank full of leeches. It's an incredibly boring job until the leeches begin to grow. And grow. And grow until they're the size of a fat man's leg. The tank breaks. They're surprisingly fast and wily for leeches and it's up to you to catch and corral them all. Roll 1d10 until you succeed by getting a 6 or higher.
  2. The Moth Room needs cleaning and it's not a very glorious or interesting job until you start to hallucinate and the walls begin to melt.
  3. The Music Room allows you to enjoy a peaceful shift feeding its inhabitants as they are trained in their next composition.
  4. The tapeworms need to be taken for discreet walkies. This process involves placing leashes and collars on tapeworms and then walking them around, whispering encouragements to help motivate them to be their best wormselves. Roll 1d10 until you succeed three times by getting a 3 or higher.
  5. The Nagev Garden is full of helpful plants that wont just melt away fat but also clean the bones underneath as well with an enthusiastic efficiency! Feeding them is a pleasure if you life watching meat get torn apart and some of the plants will even let you pet them after. Roll 1d4 to determine how many fingers you lose during this shift. (Don't worry, they'll grow back by tomorrow.)
  6. The maggot farm has gone missing and the spa needs your help in finding out where it's gone off to. Was it stolen? Did their Fear Makeup get altered in an experiment, transforming them into something new? Did something eat the whole thing? You don't have to roll for success, you just have to tell a story to the shift supervisor.

The shiny excitement of jobs in the human world had faded by this point -- faded instead into a focused attempt to do something, anything, that would help repair their slowly-breaking-down crystal. It meant that Ever wasn't grinning and bouncing as he found his way to work, this time. Instead he looked like everyone else here: a little distant, trying to keep their attention on the task at hand and finish it up as quickly as possible to go home.

Today, it seemed, his task was to take care of some monstrous little animals, which wasn't something Ever particularly minded doing, when push came to shove. Even if those monsters were creepy crawlers. After all, he was used to the little legs against his skin, Zyk's pets following him wherever he went.

The actually work, though, proved a bit different. He was put to watching the maggot farm, which wouldn't be a big deal except that by the time he arrived, all the maggots were gone.

Humming, Ever stood next to the work bench and frowned a bit at the eerie silence. Surely they bugs should have made some sound, inside their tunnels and passages, but all he got was silence. When he put his hand against its glass surface, it felt still and dead. It was a bad sign.

With the frown deepening on his face, Ever finally cracked the lid off the top of the farm to drag fingers through the sand within. Slowly, he destroyed the network of paths that the creatures had dug, searching for soft, squishy bodies in the mess. He found none. s**t.

Once he was satisfied the cage was empty, he went to find the shift manager, and nervously guided her back to take a look. She wasn't thrilled by the lack of explanation.

They couldn't find the maggots; it was like they'd evaporated. The shift manager berated him, certain that when Ever had opened the lid he'd let the monstrous beasts out -- but Ever wasn't half so convinced. It meant he was scowling when he was reassigned to the boring duty of Moth room and handed a mop, pushed to start cleaning up the mess on the floor. He would have rather pretty much any other task, wished that he was back somewhere he could interact with other people (human or horseman) than mop up s**t and spit off the floors of the monsters.

His grumbling faded out some, though, when the world started to bleed around him. The sense of space he had from soft echoing sounds shuddered and shifted, like the room was moving around him, and Ever tipped his head up toward the ceiling curiously. For him, of course, the hallucination wasn't a visual one. Instead it was soft and nebulous, full of feelings that he would never be able to put in words. His skin prickled and grew, his body shape resettling into something great and fuzzy. He tasted the sea on the air, and drank the air around him. He smelled fresh bread baking somewhere, and wipes spit from his mouth.

An hour later, someone came and found him sprawled out on the dirty floor, to haul him away from this task and shove him back toward home.
