[ JOB LISTING ] Contracted Investigative Engineer [ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star gaia_star gaia_star
[ TASK ] As one of the engineers it is your job to help apply the work of the metalworkers into new technology and develop products to better observer humanity and reap their data. This is where the hardware side of development goes on, though some software is tested at this level.
[ MECHANICS ] Roll 1d6 twice, each roll is half the day.
- You set up a complex motherboard array, newly developed peripheral, hardware or something else in development and yet when it is plugged in, for no discernible reason you can figure out it shorts out and goes on fire. - You come up with a more efficient way of drawing heat away from hot machinery in a flat plane, if you have already rolled this, you simply develop this further. - Somehow you accidentally stumble upon a means of pulling data from a data line without being easily detectible - You help to develop the ability to make everything smaller, phones, cables and spying devices. - You spend all of your shift trying to figure out the problems with a complex circuit and even with the help of your supervisors, no process is made at all. - You work hard all day and get your break extended by Tyr who is very pleased with the whole department's hard work.

Having done incredibly well with the metalworking department, Terr thought he should once more try his hand at being a Contracted Investigative Engineer. Perhaps he'd learned enough now to do the job well so he could be of more use to Tyr and by extension his clan.
But what should he encounter on his first shift but the exact same configuration that had screwed him over the first time around? Also the second time. And no matter what he did, no matter how carefully or thoroughly he studied and inspected and researched, he still couldn't figure out why it kept catching on fire.
The first time around could be considered his fault. The second time cast doubt on him. The third time? There might just be something wrong with this specific combination of parts.

With that in mind, perhaps there was just something wrong with the configuration of the heat sink. Perhaps along the components and parts were efficient and worked wonders. Or maybe the software needed to be flash upgraded with the right firmware to properly coordinate the logic behind the boards?
That level of knowledge was unfortunately beyond Terr so he decided he should focus on a solution that he could actually develop and work on. The point of overheating seemed to be in the metal plate and the Death Horseman set to work drafting up means of diverting the heat elsewhere.
Maybe it could be the material the components were made? Or he could devise a cooling system instead. He spent the rest of his shift developing the idea further.
