[ JOB LISTING ] Loan shark

[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star gaia_star gaia_star

[ TASK ] It's time to call in some loans - aka the bank's most formidable and infamous task, what they're best known for. He's invited you to some interviews with people who are behind on their loan payments; the office is extremely grand and fancy - and also imposing. Doing this task means that Crane trusts you to know what you're doing, so you'd better not let him down...

[ MECHANICS ] Roll 1d100 and see how well you've fared. You may only have one client a day.

  • 01 - 15 - The person you've been instructed to speak to is a young parent who keeps crying everywhere. It's a little flustering to try and talk when someone is sobbing on your shoulder...needless to say, Crane is disappointed in your efforts. Or lack thereof. ( fail )

  • 16 - 30 - Twins. Why twins? What sort of twins take out a loan together? Apparently to open a small business. They're the type of twins who finish each other's sentences, which gets you both confused and a little annoyed. Crane doesn't appreciate your impatience... ( fail )

  • 31 - 45 - Your patron is a young person - very young. In fact, so young that you're wondering how a person this young even got a loan. But it seems that appearances can be deceiving. You do well in getting them to admit that they need to pay the bank back. ( pass )

  • 46 - 60 - The customer is an elderly person who keeps trying to get you to speak louder and louder because they can't hear you. Crane seems amused by this, but doesn't intervene, even when the patron says that you remind them of their grandchild. ( fail )

  • 61 - 75 - Your patron is an attractive - very attractive - very very attractive - person who keeps flirting outrageously at you. Crane seems to find this quite normal, but it's throwing you off your game. Or maybe you're really good at flirting back. Either way, you actually do manage to convince them to make a payment. ( pass )

  • 76 - 90 - Your meet with someone who is unbelievably derogative and dismissive. No matter how levelheaded you might be, they eventually say something that gets under your skin, and you lose your temper. Crane seems a little entertained by this, but, well, you can't go around snapping at clients, after all. ( fail )

  • 91 - 100 - You meet with a high profile client who is as smooth as a shark and as cool as a cucumber. Nothing you say and do can ruffle them, but in spite of this, Crane seems both pleased and satisfied with your attempts at getting them to repay their outstanding debts. He gives you a nod of commendation. ( pass )

Like the guarding duty, this seemed like something a little more up Elaia's alley. The muscle to the operations - maybe - as she occupied the boss of the business she had volunteered for today.

She had even thought up a whole scenario, which she held nothing back with explaining to him in complete glee. Him, the formidable boss of the bank and straight and non nonsense. The good cop, as was a saying in the human world. And her, the small and formidable brawn of the operation who took no for an answer. The bad cop. Whoever they were going to see wouldn't see it coming at all!

Crane said nothing of the subject and barely seemed to acknowledge it, like he didn't listen. It was hard to tell. But as he opened the door to the very fancy office - a little intimidating, yes because it was just way too fancy. Like, Elaia wasn't sure she should touch anything fancy even though she wanted to touch all the things - he seemed to let her loose.

Sitting behind the other end of the desk was just the sweetest looking old man, he was like from an endearing television commercial. His suit was sharp, his glasses clean and an old felt hat upon his head. He shook like a Chihuahua but even with the soft smile upon his face.

Elaia wasn't buying it. She stepped forth and slammed her upon palm down onto the desk with a loud slap, "where's the money grandpa? I don't wanna hear about you losing it at.... bango." That was the game, right? All Crane seemed to do was slide into his impeccable chair and open a very business-like folio that had been resting on the desk. Information on this low life no doubt.

The old man, in turn, simple turned his wobbly head towards her and smile. He said nothing at first. "What?" He wheezed. "You'll have to speak up."

"The money!" She repeated, louder with a lacing of baritone. (Not really,
her voice would never go further, she sounded like a child).

"I'm sorry dear, my hearing .. is not what it used to be, you will have to speak up." Still, ever so pleasant. Almost making her want to drop the act and just hug him. Those glasses were making his eyes look large and adorable. Old people were just so adorable! The only old people she ever got to see were Famine, which she assumed were old because so many of them were missing things... which... disappeared with age?

But no, she had a job to do! Crane was counting on her. Elaia leaned over, her best determined face which looked more like a pout. "You owe this man some money old man, its time to pay up!"

His smile only seemed to grow ever so slightly as his head turned towards the man behind the desk.
His fingers tapped against the desk, "oh, Mr. Crane! Is this one of yours? She is so adorable even though I do not understand a word she says," his head turned back and his hand raised to gently pat her cheek, "she reminds me of my granddaughter."

And thus the mask of bad cop fell and her features really did turn into a pout. He had beaten her,
made her lose her composure and she was unable to resist the cuteness of the old man who was somewhat hard of hearing. (Or was this a ploy?!)

Elaia never did get a chance to find out as Crane waved her off, silently requesting her to leave as he continued reading through the papers before him.

Failure. Sad times.
