gaia_crown Attack Base - Location - Sahara Description - On the edge of the sprawling sahara the hunter base here isn't well defended as it has to be able to up and move at any given time. Thias at some point had sent a short text message to Ever, after the job with the guards he figured the other famine horseman had rested and wouldn’t object too poorly to the idea of facing one of the hunter bases with him. He had also suggested he bring Zyk, he had assumed that they knew each other or maybe vaguely remembered that the two were rather close but he could have been mistaken. Sometimes horseman even famine tended to blur together in his mind, only a few particular ones stood out to him and for whatever reason he had decided not to invite that particular one along. He had given a time for them to meet, and waited outside of the portals for their arrival.

They were late -- because Ever had a tendency to simply ignore any messages sent to his phone. Its beeping and blipping had turned into a background noise that he largely ignored, that went unanswered. It wasn't like he could read it, after all, and so he forgot about it entirely until he found Zyk and remembered to hand it off in offering. When they finally did arrive, he was in the midst of trying to explain who Thias was without any actual physical descriptors. "He moves slow, and smooth." It wasn't much help, really. "His voice is soft, not too aggressive, his clothing makes quiet noises, he doesn't stand very close to you..." It'd be easier for Zyk to just look up and see him, by now.

Even if he hadn't known the other famine in passing, Zyk was so used to Ever's way of describing the word around him, he likely would have been able to Thias out from a line up without that previous recognition. "We have met before, Ever." It came with a hand on the scavenger's shoulder. "He is also close with insects." A shared interest. As they reached him Zyk offered the other stallion an easy smile. "Hello Brother. Is it hunters on the menu for the evening?" He'd been wondering when they'd be getting back to that. Messing with the humans was enjoyable, yes, but it really couldn't compare.

They were late, and Thias did his best to keep himself from pacing back and forth in front of the portal or to show any expression over the matter. It was in his opinion undignified in some way, and it wasn’t as if he was upset over the matter he was more or less concerned that something may or may not have happened given the circumstances of what was taking place around Dusk. When they finally appeared that was a quick look of relief quickly replaced by a rather overly practiced smile and the general politeness of dealing with clansman in his voice. “Menu?.. Ah yes I figured after the guards attacking at the embassy while Ever and I were there that we should maybe try to get a head start this time.” He held out an arm to usher them in first through the portal, more in a way of being courtesy if anything before following suit himself. Stepping through the heat hit Thias first as the sand started slowly engulf the nonsense of human shoes that he had kept on his feet. Preferably barefoot was his own choice but Thias hadn’t taken time to change from the last job so he would have to deal or maybe just lose them mysteriously along the way. It took a few steps to adjust into something that stilled resembled an elegant gait as he walked but efficient enough that he wouldn’t waste too much time looking for the barrier. “Have either of you been here before?” He glanced at them both seeing how they were fairing.

"I've been here." But when Ever said it, it came with a slow frown, his exebrows knitting and his head tipped, just slightly, to one side. Of course he'd been in the area; they were Famine, the desert drew them to its heat and sand. But something niggled at him, some memory of this place that sent a faint shudder up his spine and made his focus narrow onto Zyk, inexplicably. He frowned harder, as he pulled out his weapon -- the bolas spinning idly around his finger, a nervous flicked to turn them into a whirring circle. The balls rattled against each other as he turned to press his other hand against the barrier that protected the base from their assault, testing its strength. Not much. It wouldn't take them long to get inside. "I think I've been here." His focus narrowed, surprisingly serious for Ever, and he brought the bolas up to take a piece out of that shield. "Let's make sure." EVER HP: 50/50 DMG: 3 SHIELD HP: 7/10

Zyk's head tipped at Ever's declaration, brows drawing in thoughtfully as he tried to work out what exactly the scavenger meant by that. They certainly had been there before, but there was something in that tone that had made it seem like that wasn't what Ever had meant. There was a certain specification to that statement, a seriousness, that was peculiar. Now was not the time to inquire after it though. Not when there was work to be done. After, probably, he'd question the other stallion. Unless the answer presented itself in time. As Ever took a shot at the shield surrounding the base, Zyk brough tout his own weapon. The kusarigama hung for a moment from long fingers before he gave his wrist a flick, starting it into a slow loop. Then, at the apex of the arch, sending it forward. HP: 40 DMG: 4 Shield: 6/10

Bright blue eyes gave a quizzical look to Ever, then to Zyk as he tried to grasp what was being said between them without words as it in some way agitated him. It wasn’t his business but it it put him on edge just like the crystal had before cracking and going dim entirely plunging Dusk practically into darkness. It wasn’t as if he could call any particular reasoning to dislike the Sahara, the sun, the sand, a part of him loved it but still it felt like something was misplaced, as if it was almost completely like home but lacked something. Water? Teeth? It didn’t matter in the end if he could recall or not, they were there for a reason and that was to break through the barrier, attack the hunters, gather fear, return home. It was simple enough, there was no reason to question it or think about it was there? There was no reason to give any sort of doubt that something really was wrong beyond the failure of the crystal. Thias dropped the one end of his weapon, the stone shimmered in the sun before he started to swing it letting the whistling noise grow louder in his ear before letting it fly in a high arch. It landed with a heavy thud against the barrier before he yanked the stone back letting it hit the sand in front of him, rather inefficiently of him. HP: 40/40 Damage: 3 Shield: 20/30

The barrier was a strange problem, for Ever. He knew it was there. He could hear how it killed the movement of sound, could feel the way air moved up against it. When his weapon hid it, the thud was heavy and strong, rattling his arm just a bit. He just wasn't sure quite what it was. The resistance was wrong for a wall, it thrummed oddly against his senses. Frowning, he pulled back on his second attack and, instead, kicked one foot out to test just how strong it was. The answer: strong enough to keep him out. "This is boring." "Break the thing in front of you, and you will no longer be bored." It was said patiently, though left little room for argument. Just pure logic. Break into the nest, and the insects inside would come out to investigate and defend. Simple. HP: 40 DMG: 1 Base shield: 19/30

He had to agree with him, this was rather boring and tedious as he looked over at Ever even if what Zyk said was true they still had some time before they would even be able to break past the shield. Especially considering when he threw the heavy end it didn’t collide with anything this time, just sunk heavily into the sand as a look of disappointment crossed his face. "Why don't you break it, then?" More than just bored, now, Ever actually seemed peeved. He slammed up against the wall hard enough that he was sure he should have done some real damage to it. Instead, it was like a pebble against a stone wall. He scowled, and if he'd been able to, he would have glared at it as well. He certainly hadn't signed up to sling dust at an invisible wall. At least, in his disappointment, he wound the bolas around his fingers and prepared to take a real swing at it. No more fussing around; next time, he'd be ready to take it down. A brow twitched at that tone, the corners of his lips twisting up in dark amusement. "Cranky," he mused out, chuckling faintly under his breath. He did seem to take the demand to heart though. The next toss of his weapon cracked loudly against the protective shield, and he caught it as bounced back at him. HP: 40 DMG: 5 Base shield: 12/30
