It hadn't taken a few days to progress to where they were now. Oh no, they had gone through several weeks of this, and when Durama had finally begun to contemplating going back the way he had previously come in, he was given the news he had desperately wanted to hear from day one. He hadn't been entirely certain as to what the hold up had been, but it seemed that this particular pride had no intention of releasing him until they had ensured his 'documentation' was in order. You see, this particular rabbit had come in through an unknown method and he wasn't even provided with the correct things to help identify him as friendly. As a consequence, the guards that seemed to be in control of this type of situation had held him until they had received several reports collaborating his story.
They had soon regarded him with considerable interest when not just one Justicar signed off on his presence, but several did. Durama hadn't been aware of it at the time, but it seemed that these 'Justicars' held considerable power in this territory and if they said 'jump', everyone else tended to ask for clarification on how high they should be reaching. If Durama hadn't been curious about Destati before, he certainly was now! Alas, with his presence and story signed off, it seemed that he was now free to go... He was however being released, with under several conditions.
They were curious.
For want of a better word, it seemed that his visit had awoken them from a slumber. They had been so distracted by internal politics and strife, that they had all but forgotten about the outside world and its denizens. Consequently, while they couldn't allow a significant number of individuals to exit or enter their lands (it was too dangerous), they had indicated they fully intended to send one of their own with him to investigate. It was under the guise of them simply signing off on his story with their own eyes rather than simply taking the word of the Justicars...But the rabbit knew better. They, like many others who lived in a hidden world, simply wanted to know what lay beyond their borders.
Were there dangers, were there risks?
The very guard who had found him had been charged with accompanying him on his way home. Gus Gus, as he had finally been named, had been instructed to ensure that Durama returned home safely and in one piece. Unsurprisingly the lion hadn't put up much of a fight and like any good guard, had followed these orders. Thus, they now found themselves wandering away from a location that Durama was entirely unfamiliar with, and into another location that...well... Durama continued to be unfamiliar with.
"You have absolutely no idea where you are, do you?" Gus asked in amusement as he observed the rabbit. It had been with joy that the prey animal had bounded out of the gates, failing to realise how significant it was that they had even opened. Now that he had escaped from the land he had stumbled in to, he was more than just a little turned round. Unsurprisingly, Gus was going to be of no help in the search for home given that this world was just as unknown to him as it seemed to be for the rabbit.
"I have a vague idea," Durama retorted and shook his head. "I just need to find somewhere high up so I can get a good view, then we can work our way back from there," he explained and pursed his lips. "I didn't exactly plan to have my hindquarters booted out of a door I didn't go through to begin with," he pointed out.
"One would have assumed that the logical choice would have been to enter through the front door to begin with," Gus responded in kind and raised a brow.
"Well those weren't the directions I was given," Durama stated. Fortunately, Gus believed him and didn't seem inclined to question the judgement of the one who had provided him with those directions in the first place.
"How about those?" Gus gave a nod in a direction, but Durama only managed to catch the briefest of movements.
"About what?" He asked as he turned to face the lion properly.
"Those," Gus nodded again towards the mountain range in the distance and tilted his head to the side. It was a fair walk away and they would be at it for more than a day or two, but it would give the rabbit the vantage point he seemed to be looking for. Granted he had no idea who or what lived up there, but nothing could be more violent or hostile than the insurgents they continued to battle within his homeland. Quite frankly, he was willing to take his chances with whatever happened to reside in the mountain range, he was strong enough to take on one or two hostiles if he had to.
...Provided he could see them.
"Those would be...useful, yes." Durama agreed as he gave his paws a little rub. Like Gus, he estimated that they would be walking for some time, but he'd sooner he was able to gain a rough idea of where he was. Knowing his luck, he'd end up walking in the wrong direction on a hunch, only to have a passerby indicate that they had been heading in the wrong way for so long that they had wasted even more time!
"Once we're high enough up I should be able to see home," he added with a smile. "We're pretty easy to see, provided that it's a nice day and the sky is clear enough," he explained and with that, he began to make his way towards the mountains. Hopefully they would find someone up there that might even be able to help them, perhaps even lead them to a good vantage point so that they wouldn't have to waste too much time.
"Where do you come from anyway?" Gus asked curiously.
"Huh?" Durama paused and glanced over his shoulder. "Oh, the Bahari'mtoto."
"Never heard of it."
"Well that's not really a surprise to anyone, is it?" Durama was dismissive as he padded along, ignoring Gus who had afforded him an amused glance.
"You could at least explain roughly where it is so I can help look for it too."
"It's by the ocean," Durama replied.
"I know of two of those, you're going to need to be more specific," Gus concluded.
"I don't know, the ocean," The rabbit continued. "It's by a jungle!"
"Wonderful, well... I'm sure I can put some of that to use..." The guard murmured as he followed after the smaller creature.Words: 1130
