At first, she seemed to be doing well enough. Adelaide checked on her once, nodded silently, and then left her to her work. So Maebe assumed that meant she had gotten the hang of it, and her mind began to wander as she continued to clean in rote, automatic movements. So when Adelaide returned, hours later, and expressed complete disdain for her work, she was insulted.
Then she looked down at the piece, and realized that her q-tip had barely touched the painting for the last hour or so, just mildly grazed it with useless little featherlight touches. She'd gotten lost in her own thoughts, fantasizing about big, dark skinned muscles and warm hugs, and hadn't actually been cleaning the painting all that time.
Okay. Admittedly, that was on her this time.
She started all over just as Adelaide asked her to, and made an effort to actually pay attention to her work this time, just so she'd have better success in her progress.
