[ TASK ] The task of a software developer within Horse is far more varied than in most larger companies, within Horse people cross-dabble in any number of different disciplines and the result is shared with the whole of the clans to further their aims.
You will have to work on the lowest level of these tasks, helping to develop of uncover new software quirks.
[ MECHANICS ] Roll 1d6 twice, each roll is half the day. You must obtain two successes to pass the day and collect your prize - Accidentally you upload a file wrong and delete one of the important directories used by the programmers, it has to be restored by a backup. FAIL - You find a way to use the more tech oriented famine insects to carry spy devices into formerly difficult to reach places using a programmable device. SUCCESS - You spend all day helping to set up a large bot net for an attack by another division. SUCCESS - You help to develop one of the major projects going on at the HQ and it all goes nice and well. SUCCESS - You write a huge swathe of code using the helper program but somewhere in the 5000 lines is an unclosed tag which you must find. FAIL - Tyr stops by and helps you solve a problem that was causing hassle before swanning off again in his usual way. SUCCESS

Coding was not his forte. Actually, a lot was not his forte, this he realized. First, with the loan sharks, he'd messed that up. Real bad. Then, with the box, another mess up. Now, Ilker had spent almost three hours scouring the 50,000 lines of code he'd managed to write for a single, little, unclosed tag. This wasn't his forte. This would never be his forte. He stared at the screen with an expression of pain and slight suffering, something intense that he normally only felt when interacting with Ellaren or Mukei. Speaking of which.
Ilker straightened up, glancing over toward the computer where Ellaren was seated at the end of the hall. She seemed calm, focused. Two things of which, Ilker was definitely not. Ilker was fairly done with even being there, but of course, he had to help his clan. Since when did he need to help them? Since when did they need help in the first place? Ilker was feeling whiny and annoying. He spread his hand and thoughtlessly let it fall onto the keyboard. The entire folder disappeared. He stared blankly at the screen for a second before realizing exactly what had happened. He blinked once. Blinked again. His jaw fell open, beginning to panic before his body tensed and he began to freak out. This was not okay. He’d managed to erase a full ******** folder of extremely important data. Not only was that being stupid. He was being idiotic.
Thankfully it only took a quick message to the head before he got it back, but now he had to rewrite it all over. <******** great.

He has thick black hair reaching to his hip, pulled back into a half braid left cascading over his shoulder. He wears snakebites and eyebrows piercings, and has a weird fondness for water.

Above all, Ellaren had always prized efficiency. Going through code to find the bugs that slowed it down, writing lines and lines of programming to serve the purpose as quickly and easily as possible, was a new experience but not an unwelcome one. There was an almost relaxing aspect to it, in the busy work of facing a problem and creating the best way possible to solve it. At least, she had thought it relaxing until she'd gotten to the end and gotten an error. Somewhere, the software less than helpfully informed her, something was written incorrectly. By the time she found the missing tag, her opinion of the work was decidedly less positive.
Irritated, the Famine horseman stepped away from coding to find better uses of her time. Finding that there were tech oriented famine insects being used for various purposes was a more than welcome revelation, and one she was all too glad to devote the rest of her time to. Like most all in her clan, she enjoyed working with insects, of course, and had given thought more than once to working towards becoming a sage. She hadn't, in the end, but it was a leaning that still popped into her thought process for consideration from time to time.
Now, as she guided the insects through carrying and deploying spying devices in just the right places, out of sight and out of reach where only the insects could go, she considered it again. Perhaps after all this trouble with her memory and the crystal had cleared up. Perhaps when she felt her hive did not need her as a more direct protector.
(Reusing thread for another day, another shot! Annnd another failure.)
Another day of infuriating mistakes in large swathes of codes had left Ellaren uncertain this was the job for her, after all. Perhaps tomorrow she would be better suited to a job within another branch of the business. Or perhaps, she thought, erasing the extraneous tag she had finally found with a vicious jab of a key, perhaps she simply needed to take a break from this particular project and try another. The famine insects had been a nice change of pace the day before, but they had no need of her this time. Still, there had to be somewhere she could be of use. Refusing to give up the job until satisfied she'd contributed good work, she wandered from project to project until she found a good fit. Helping with such a major undertaking certainly put a little more optimism back into her outlook.

He was getting better. His furious keyboard finger stabbing had managed to become a nice typing noise, soft and calculated. No longer was he earning groans from those near him, no, he was definitely calculated and ready. In seeing this, one of his superiors called him forward. They asked him to... help work on a project? Awesome. While he only had to give a few pointers, as a newbie, it still counted. He was getting cooler, better. Even if he'd.... managed to erase all the data, again.
