[ JOB LISTING ] Greeter
[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star

[ TASK ]
As a greeter in the store part of Horse, it is your job to greet members of the Herd as they enter, welcoming them to the end of the technological pilgrimage. It is your job to make sure they get their exclusive web store upgrade and if required, show them where the bathrooms are and validate their parking.

Anywhere else it's not an exclusive job, here at Horse though, it is a privilege!

Be nice to the humans customers, our reputation depends on it.

[ MECHANICS ]
Roll 1d6 twice, each roll is half the day.

  1. You run into an extremely socially awkward customer who wants to get the signature of everyone in the showroom and have to carefully talk them out of it because people are busy.
  2. A belligerent mother shows up demanding that you fix her hPhone which "isn't working properly", she has somehow set it to airplane mode. Either you help her fix it or you direct her to the stable.
  3. You greet someone entering the shop and for whatever reason they think that your choice of greeting or tone is offensive and give you a lecture on "proper etiquette"
  4. A celebrity visitor has arrived to the store and you are stuck herding their entourage and fans around for half a day
  5. Someone on the way in drops a very sticky drink all over the floor and you are tasked with mopping it up like a janitor.
  6. You run into Tyr in the shop either quote Baneful to chat to him or simply assume that he was very friendly and gave you a voucher for the store.

With Thias beside him as they emerged into the human world through one of the remaining functional portals since the emergency situation on Dusk, Rook walked into the very first store they came across that hired their kind, not wanting to waste anymore time lest something more dire happened to Dusk during their absence. There were a couple of jobs that they could try their hand at. Some requiring certain specific skill sets that he wasn't really sure if he and Thias could handle, so those he ignored for now in favour of focusing on those that they could successfully complete. They eventually settled on the greeter job though Rook was admittedly worried a little as to how Thias would handle the individuals that he came across given how sociable he was usually. It didn't matter he supposed. So long as he kept the other horseman in his sights, he could intervene whenever necessary to help salvage the situation then.

It was a slow day today it seemed which was probably a good thing in itself. Just as the clock was about to reach 12 which was the time for their lunch break, someone came in and it was none other than the boss man Tyr himself. Getting up from his seat and literally dropping everything he was doing, Rook immediately went over with a big smile on his face to greet Tyr like he would any other customer. It seemed that Tyr happened to be in the area because he had a meeting so he thought he would drop by and see how they, his newest temp employees, were doing. ”Everything is fine Sir as you can see. But thank you very much for your concern.” Rook had immediately responded, hoping to leave a favourable impression on Tyr. It seemed to work, especially if one took into account that Tyr left not long after reaching into his pocket to hand Rook a voucher on the house to thank him for his hard work.

Being a greeter seemed as if it would be easy enough at Thias followed Rook into the rather too shiny and rather too modern looking building with too many things that had glass that he was sure to break if he wasn’t too careful. So far he had been rather lucky when it came to not breaking his phone, he half expected to at some point shattered the screen entirely by mistake. It wasn’t the same as driving a car, those he felt were rather sturdy and could at least handle if he made a little bit of a mess up. Nevertheless he went ahead and followed him in and took his position at the front of the store a pleasant smile waited on his lips for the first person he would be dealing with. One customer came in and their eyes glanced over a rook, almost causing a hiss to sound in the back of Thias’s throat. Instead he swallowed it as the next customer came in giving a grim look despite the most pleasant smile that he gave him in return.

“Hello and welcome, how may I help you?” It was polite of course however the human did not seem to be rather thrilled as it let a scowl now cross his lips. Before Thias could get any other word out the human snapped at him telling him what poor of a job he was doing, not to mention question what sort of purpose did he even have standing at the door anyway it wasn’t as if they needed someone to say hello every time he entered the building. Words were lost on his lips as all Thias could do was stand there and listen to everything the human had to say to him, it was infuriating however he kept the same pleasant look instead of lunging and strangling him to death. Eventually a technician came over and ushered the human away giving Thias a break from being bereted.

It took every ounce of patience that Rook had in him not to immediately storm over to give the very unreasonable human a punch to the face and a piece of his own mind for having the audacity to talk to Thias like that. Thias would probably yell at him for that. Tyr too before kicking him out for his lack of professionalism as a greeter. Ok. Fine. He would stay put for now and let Thias handle this himself.

"Hello there! How many I help..."

He greeted the next customer that came through the door before staring wide-eyed at the content of the can of soda that was spilled on the floor when said customer accidentally dropped it after knocking the side of her arm against one of the display shelves. Bummer. Rook totally did not sign himself up for something like this. Would he be expected to clean the toilet next?

Grabbing the mop and pail, he got to work immediately with a snort, wanting to get this over and done with lest someone accidentally stepped on the liquid and made another mess that he would have to mop up next. The sooner he was done with this, the better.

At least Rook seemed to be handling himself rather well when it came to the greeting position Thias thought as he shuffled his feet a little more hoping that maybe he would be a little more unnoticed at the front of the store as others slowly started to file in around lunch time. It seemed that a lot of people liked to come on their lunch break. Not that Thias should have been too surprised about, it was easy to just swing by drop off what they needed too or just browse the new things while on break. What he hadn’t entirely expected was for a customer who lingered a little too long at the door holding a pad of paper in his hand. After a few minutes of watching him just look back and forth Thias made his way over to him and gave the best smile he could to him.

“Hello, what can I do to help you sir?” The customer gave a little jump as if startled that someone had noticed him before holding out the pad of paper.

“Can you sign it?” That earned him a rather confused look before Thias took the pad and with large looping script signed his name. The paper looked harmless enough, it was just the regular ruled paper with nothing else on it.

“Tttt..tt..hhankk yoouu.” The man replied before rocking back and forth on his feet. “Do..do you think I can get..others to sign?” Thias looked around, everyone else was busy, it was the lunch hour and there was no way he wanted to hang out with this guy until then. After a few minutes he finally managed to convince the man to leave to come back in the morning if he wanted other people to sign. Why did he get so unlucky as a greeter?
