[ JOB LISTING ] Inventory Manager [ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_stargaia_stargaia_star [ TASK ] Monitor and list all incoming and outgoing inventory.
"Okay, look," Adelaide seems very irritated. "We just had two trucks come in and drop off their goods. Those nincompoops," she points at two part-timers, "unloaded everything without marking things down." Eight large boxes are sitting on the dock.
She hands you a clip-board. "I need you to check each box's invoice and decide where it goes. If the invoice says 'Cavalry' you just put an X here," she points to the bottom left corner of the paper, "and have those boobs stack it over there. Don't actually count Cavalry boxes in the total number of boxes on the form. If it says anything else on the box, I need you to open it and make sure the invoice matches. Fill out your report when you're done."
Roll 8 d4: These are the boxes, and there are 8 of them. For each box follow the instructions below and RP accordingly. --If you roll doubles, it means you have two of that particular box and need to follow it's instructions twice. Same with triples, etc.
This box says it holds one complete silver dinner set. Roll 1 d10 to see what's missing.
-----If you roll a: -------1. Everything is there. -------2. It is missing the gravy boat. -------3. Two spoons are no where to be found. -------4. One serving platter is listed, but not in the box. -------5. Three forks have magically disappeared. -------6. One spoon and on butter knife are missing. -------7. Everything is there. -------8. Two plates are missing. -------9. There are NO forks in this set. WHAT?! -------10. Everything is there, but the large serving platter has a huge gouge on it. Best make a note.
This box is supposed to hold on large grandfather clock. Best check for damages. Roll 1 d6. If even it's in perfect condition. If odd the glass on the front is broken. You had better make a note.
Three large tapestries from the year 1400. Roll 1 d4. If you roll a 1 or 2, one tapestry is missing. If you roll a 3, they all have water damage. If you roll a 4, everything looks good!
This box is labeled "Cavalry". No need to check the contents, simply RP ordering the part-timers to stack it in the corner.
When you are done checking all 8 boxes, fill out the form below and post it in your last post.

After the excitement of the shattering crystal, Ever had turned more subdued: had hunted down Zyk without his bouncing enthusiasm and excitement about an adventure into the human world. Instead, he'd looked quiet and serious, with his head tilted to one side and his expression quizzical behind the sunglasses. For a moment, he'd stood, thinking about words and trying to find the right ones that buzzed in the back of his mind.
Without voicing them, he grabbed Zyk's arm to loop his own in against his elbow and pulled him along the hall toward the portals. With things in disarray, the least they could do was put their own minds and bodies toward the task of helping out, be useful together. He'd found them a job where they could quietly speak, largely forgotten in the back of a shop, sorting through boxes.
As they headed in that direction, he finally found his voice.
"Tell me what it looked like. No one is describing it well."
He'd let Ever lead him along to the portals without protest. In complete agreement that they should be doing something to assist the clans, and if that something happened to be helping out at one of the businesses they ran in the human world, than so be it.
Arm in arm he'd walk with Ever towards the waiting Adelaide. "Just a moment." They could get their assignment first, and then would be left alone to fulfill it without interruption. As she explained their task he listened quietly, and when the clipboard was offered he'd take it with a smile and an understanding nod. Watching her walk away before leading Ever around to the stack of boxes.
"The bottom had cracks, like the we find along the hard earth when it is baked in the sun for too long. They were reaching up from the bottom, and where they touched they leeched away the warmth. Leaving it dull and dead." A pause as he looked over the list on the clipboard, stalling for a moment as he worried at his own lip. "It is dying."

He was handed a clipboard of his own but, largely, he ignored the writing on it -- for obvious reasons. This was a rough job to be sharing with him, since Zyk was basically going to have to do twice as much work. Ever would try his hardest. He wasn't lazy, there were just certain tasks that were outside of his comfort zone.
He tucked the paper in against his side and trailed after Zyk while he did his work, considering that answer in a thoughtful sort of way.
"Well, we'll refuel it. That's why we're here, isn't it?" But he shook his head, flicking that thought away. "But that's not a long term solution. Why is it sick?"
Already knowing he was going to have to be in charge of Ever's list he pulled the clipboard from pale fingers, adding the papers from it to his own. A quick glance, and he'd nudge the other towards the first box on his list, then turn his attention to his own.
"I am not sure, nor have I heard any credible rumors." Which was also a little distressing. "They will have to figure it out, and soon. I have my doubts that replenishing it will work for long." By the rate the cracks were spreading...
Frowning, he opened the first box. Tapestries. All showing signs of water damage. He sighed and noted it on his list.

"Did you ever touch it before?"
It was a strange kind of question, distracted, as Ever walked fingers over the box Zeke had pushed him toward -- and, slowly, smoothed over the word "CAVALRY" written in ball point pen. This one, then, wasn't his problem. For a moment he considered opening it anyway, to investigate the strange contents. Then, with a sigh, he passed it off to one of the part-timers to add to the pile.
"I mean the crystal. Ever climb up there and poke at it...?"
He paused to give the other stallion a curious look. "And why would I do that?" In retrospect, it wasn't that odd a question given Zyk's desire to work out how things ticked, but his interests tended towards living specimens. The crystal, their source of everything, just was.
He opened another box, this one supposedly holding silverware. Though he'd frown, pale eyes narrowing at Ever. "Did you touch it?"
Apparently forks were no longer a thing? There were none. Zyk made a note of it and moved onto the next one.

"Maybe I touched it." The question -- and his own answer -- made Ever grin up at Zyk. It seemed proud of himself, more than anything else, pleased with the idea. Unapologetic, he shrugged, and tipped his head down to the second box of his. It also rattled with silverware; Ever idly poked through it, unsure what he was looking for.
He didn't even know what a gravy boat was. There was no way he would notice what it was missing.
It made his lips twitch, a very small, amused smile tugging at his lips before he was opening another box. This time a it was a clock, a fairly large one. Like something he would expect to find in a conquest dwelling, or Death, perhaps.
Except for the front face of it. There was a large crack bisecting it, and Zyk made a note on his clipboard, recording it, before moving onto the next one.
"No, I would imagine now would not be a good time to indulge such things." He glanced side long at Ever, down to the blonde's box, and made an appropriate notation on the other clipboard.

"Of course, this could be our last opportunity." He raised an eyebrow over the glasses, face turned toward Zyk as he said it -- fingers raking slowly through another box of silverware. This one, he thought, had all its pieces. As much as he knew about silverware, at least. He pricked a fingertip lightly against the tines of a fork, light and thoughtful.
"If it breaks, we certainly won't get another chance. Maybe we won't get another chance for anything, though."
"Perhaps, but if we touch it, we could damage it more than it already is." Ever's logic was sound, though in Zyk's opinion it was too risky to chance such a thing.
This box was one of the few with CAVALRY written across the top of it. Zyk waved the other two men over to take care of it before continuing.
"Maybe. We did not have a crystal on the isles, I do not know what will happen if the one we have no breaks." He sounded thoughtful, and there was a slight frown on his face. Trying to recall when the crystal had begun, and why, and finding only fuzziness and blanks.

"Everything got a little bit quieter when it crackled." Ever's box also said CAVALRY; his fingers found their edges in a curious way and then he dropped it into the temp workers' arms to take care of. He shrugged one shoulder, without even really acknowledging them. His attention, for now, was all on Zyk.
"I mean, it got a lot louder, but then it got a little quieter. Like a hum gone from the air." He frowned a little. "...I can't explain it well."
Another grandfather clock. Zyk made a slight face at it, puzzled over the popularity of the thing. It was not particularly pleasing to the eye. Why have it? At least this one wasn't damaged. He made a note and sent it along.
"Like the energy had dissipated," he provided helpfully, putting a slight lit on the end to make it a question.
