It had all been rather sudden for him, to say the least.
One moment he had been making his way across this otherwise bizarre landscape and the next thing, he had found his footing all but lost and he had stumbled into the dark. What should have been a fairly standard tumble turned out to be misleading and he rolled, bounced and bashed is small form against several platforms within this strange world before he finally found himself on the ground. It was a fall that was going to leave him aching for days, but it wasn't going to be enough to cripple him.
Pain aside, the rabbit was going to have to work out how best to proceed from here. He needed to wait until his eyes adjusted to the failing light, but once he was able to see again he would make the point of leave this particular location and making his way towards uh...wherever that exit might be. To be perfectly honest he had no idea where he actually was, but this was a fairly common occurrence for him ever since he had stumbled upon this particular region.
...Let it never be said that the rabbit never did anything for his companions.
Still, with no further options at this current moment in time, the rabbit simply settled himself in a quiet corner and waited for the inevitable moment when he could see again.
It was unfortunate for him, that while he assumed he was alone, this was not to be the case. In fact, he was far from alone given that he had fallen into someone's den. The only reason he hadn't been able to see her was due to the fact that she blended in with her surroundings in such a manner that she would have remained completely invisible...even after his eyes had adjusted. He would have remained completely oblivious to her presence had it not been for the fact that the company now kept had opened her eyes, now fully awakened from her slumber, to observe the individual who had chosen to visit her.
Unannounced as that visitor might be.
It was in silence that the black lioness continued to observe the lion for a considerable length of time, and only when she had settled upon some sort of conclusion did she finally deem it necessary to alert Durama to her presence.
"You do not belong here," she said in a voice barely above a whisper. "You are far from home, you smell like the sea," she concluded.
"How -" Durama began and then shook his head. "Where...?"
As if to answer his question, she patted her paw gently on the ground beside him, a clear indication that they were in very close proximity.
"Why are you here, of all places...?" she asked and shook her head. "This is no place for those not of our kind," she pointed out.
"I was looking for something," Durama explained, then paused. "Someone, or maybe just somewhere?" he seemed unsure of himself in those moments and then heaved a sigh. "This is the direction I was sort of pointed in and then one thing led to another and well, I didn't imagine that I would be tumbling down into what is arguably a rather roomy home."
"You were sent here," the lioness pursed her lips. "No one is sent here, not unless they have the intention to destroy us."
"Huh, well..." The rabbit shook his head. "Not entirely sure I could do much damage if I'm entirely honest with you," he replied and gave his ear a rub. "I really was just looking for a specific spot, it's where one of our folks came from and he lost something," he explained. "I figured I'd hop on over and pick that up."
"In hostile lands," the lioness mused.
"Well it's hostile now but it wasn't originally - Least I don't think it was. Was it?"
"These lands have always been a battleground, it has been for more generations than any living being can count. What did your friend lose, a trinket?" she hazarded.
"Himself..." Durama murmured quietly. "He lost himself, but it happened in that spot and my friends and I want to find out why... See if we can fix it and find him again, some how."
There was a pause, one of absolute silence as the black lioness continued to observe the rabbit. She was so softly spoken that they were both afforded a measure of privacy despite where they were currently situated. Though the rabbit was unaware of it, he had stumbled in to very dangerous territory and it was in his best interests not to be found. Quite frankly, it was in her best interests not to be found either, it would end poorly for them both, and for very different reasons.
"Himself," she repeated.
"Home, friends, family." Durama sighed. "Something happened on that spot and it broke him, my companion says that unless we identify exactly what happened there or at least gain some grasp on it... Then there might be no way to redirect our friend back to where he needs to go."
"If he came from these lands then his kind were killed, there is nothing left for you to find." She seemed sad, perhaps even a touch hopeless. "In fact, there have been no true city states in this land for just as long as there has been this ever present war," she pointed out. "All those that remained were chased out when -"
There was a considerable pause and then a scurry of movement as the lioness adjusted her position to press her nose to the rabbit's. It was then that her white eyes were clear as day to the rabbit, a sudden revelation that gave him a chill, were these the shadows, the monsters that Spectre had made reference to before?
"Your friend, he looks like a ghost...doesn't he," she said finally.
"Sort of..." Durama murmured cautiously.
"So he's still alive," she uttered gently and closed her eyes briefly. "I can take you there, but it is no more than a gravesite now," she appeared hesitant. "When the sun has fallen, we will go, but after that you must run far away from here...as fast as you can..."
"You know who he is?" Durama queried.
"He was the one who got away, the one who started everything..."Words: 1068
