"So, explain to me why you're here?" Destati enquired as the clouded rabbit leapt into his current home. He hadn't expected the arrival, but he wasn't entirely surprised by it either. Peregrine and Chessa had made no secrets of the fact that they might require his assistance eventually. Depending on how Spectre's treatment progressed, it might have been necessary for Destati to intervene, though they hadn't provided him with information regarding how that intervention might work. Thus, he was intrigued by the arrival, even if his time was limited...
"We have been making remarkable progress with your friend, but we've hit a bit of a snag," Durama had already noted the lion's demeanour. The pair who had sent him had been explicit, even as he had asked Solomon for further clarity, he had been warned that Destati's time was limited. Though neither of three knew exactly what took all of the spotted lion's time, it was abundantly clear that it was of the essence and the Justicar didn't humour house calls that involved general chit chat. Everything required a purpose, and if it didn't, then it could wait until a later date.
Such was the way of things, and this was something that the rabbit elected to respect.
"Peregrine has identified that he's stuck, as in Spectre is stuck," Durama furrowed his brow and spread out his paws. "Spectre thinks he's one thing, but he's actually another, it's like he's trapped in some sort of dream and he can't get out of it," the rabbit continued and shrugged his shoulder. "The way Peregrine explained it, it's like he's pretending and genuinely believes he's someone else a large portion of the time, and then at other times he turns in to something else."
There was a pause, one in which Destati seemed to be carefully considering the rabbit's words. He might simply have been absorbing the information for later use, but it was reassuring for the Justicar's visitor to see that he wasn't about to be dismised immediately.
"So I was sent to ask for your help," he said.
"And how would I be able to provide assistance?" the lion asked after he had finished processing the explanation, it was a vague one, but he had grasped the basics. "Tell him who he should be or..."
"We need to find out who he is, to see whether or not he can even be led back to it," Durama shook his head. "It's not so easy as simply telling someone who they're meant to be, especially if they can't connect to it. That would be no better than what he's doing now," he pointed out.
"So...?" Destati waved his hand as if to coax the rabbit in to providing more information.
"We need context around who he is, where he come from," Durama tilted his head to the side. "We need context, something material that we can grab on to and use to lead him towards the answers himself. If he can manage to find it himself then it's more likely that the process towards recovery will go more smoothly. Peregrine said that if we do it wrong, there's a risk he'll be lost permanently," The rabbit warned and furrowed his brow. "I appreciate this might take some of your time but -"
"What you ask for is not something I will be able to provide, at least not all of it," Destati murmured and released a small sigh. "I can provide a story, his history, all the context you might need," the Justicar continued and pursed his lips. He took a seat as he leveled his gaze upon the smaller creature. "But something material just won't be possible, we do not carry the material possessions of the 'fallen', for want of a better word. Anything material that Spectre might have had is far beyond our reach at this moment in time and we don't have the time or man power to spare in retrieving it..."
"Can I?"
"Can you what?"
"Can I get the material possession?" Durama clarified. "You can give me the story, the history, that sort of thing... And then I can maybe pick up the possession," he offered slowly.
"That would place you at great risk," Destati warned and narrowed his eyes. "Those possessions exist in a region where even the strongest lion does not wander alone," he explained. "To grant you access to such a location would place your life at risk, we can't guarantee your safety."
"I'll be careful," Durama reassured him, though he wasn't expecting the rather thunderous expression that appeared on the spotted lion's features. Evidently, the rabbit didn't understand the full extent of Destati's warnings, though perhaps that was a good thing. By the sounds of it, Spectre's home lay in an area that warranted his obsession with demons. A small part of Durama was morbidly curious as to where that now was, though a larger part of him realised that if lions like Destati treated it with considerable respect, then the rabbit was going to have to respond in kind.
"I will tell you Spectre's story, or at least the part of it that I know," Destati agreed at last and cleared his throat. "When you have heard it, then you may wish to re-evaluate your offer to enter that region. On this occasion we may wish to settle for a being who wishes to live as someone else, rather than what he once was," Destati paused and closed his eyes. He remembered his ally vividly, he was one of his oldest and most trusted. Spectre and Adar would always hold a very special place in the Justicar's heart, and the least he could do was given Spectre the honour of being remembered correctly.
"You might as well make yourself comfortable," Destati advised as he motioned for the rabbit to take a seat. "Then I will tell you the story of my world and all those within it..." he murmured gently.
The rabbit hopped away from the door, and placed himself in a much more convenient location. It was time for him to learn who the one they so dearly wanted to aid was, and by extension, he would also learn who the mighty lions were that he was once allied with...Words: 1050
