[ JOB LISTING ] Fork Lift Driver
[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star

[ TASK ]
Though not a glamorous job it is an important one at HQ, with the heavy forklift operators dealing with more than simply pallets of product. In the headquarters they also handle blocks of raw ore and steel, ferrying these to the metalworkers in the research shops behind the warehouse itself. Some horsemen prefer this line of work as it does include quite a bit of manual labour and climbing through the warm and lofty rafters in a reminiscent echo of the jungle.

[ MECHANICS ]
Roll 1d6 twice, each roll is half the day.

  1. You spend a morning trying to figure out how the forklift even works, if you've driven it before you are on a model you've never even seen before.
  2. You drive into a huge stack of boxes and are relieved to see that they at least were empty, you spend the day trying to tidy them up.
  3. Things are very busy in the warehouse, you are rushed off your feet driving back and forth ferrying deliveries and before you know it is over.
  4. Things are quiet for a change and you get a chance to sneak to the rest room to chat to your coworkers.
  5. A secret delivery comes in a back door and is taken away by a group of Death horsemen in the direction of the warehouse workshops, you are thanked for your assistance.
  6. You get into an awkward conversation with co-workers and slink off back to your forklift to try and forget the discussion.

"Oh, I know I look young!"

"You look twelve."

"But I'm like 21 in human years!"

She was determined to drive the forklift. Who cared if she needed a booster seat to see what was doing? There were shorter horseman than her running around without being oppressed and discriminated against, okay. Though, if she was being honest here, the main pull of getting to drive the forklift was that it seemed the sort of thing she wasn't supposed to be doing.

So she was totally gonna, and get paid for doing it!

In the end, after a bit negotiation, she would be very thoroughly trained and then she would only drive the lift with supervision. Which, boring. But okay.

Except not boring at all!!! There was suddenly a big rush of deliveries and America's training turned into a total On the Job situation. As soon as one thing was finished, another came up and it was time to put pedal to the metal! There was another new driver on the shift too, so maybe it was kind of a less than ideal situation for the regular workers inside the warehouse, but America liked it because she was pretty sure she was doing like, way better than this guy.

Things may have gotten competitive.

People may have been relieved when suddenly it was her lunch hour and the youngster was safely out of their midst for a space.

During her lunch break, a smiling lady in black sidled up to the noble, and began by cooing over how cute America was, how good she was at handling the forklift, and how smart she must be. All of this had America nodding along, mouth full of homemade dumpling as she easily accepted these obvious facts.

And then, of course, "So...Bjornbrandr, you are his ward, yes?"

America's expression didn't change, but her nod this time was slow. "Yeah, he's like, my dad. You could say he's my Guardian, really."

The lady laughed and America laughed right along with her.

"But not truly, of course," the other horseman, obviously Death, obviously a priestess, corrected gently.

"You're right, I'm definitely more important." She offered the other tea, which was politely accepted. The remainder of lunch was very, very polite. Weather was spoken of. The priestess ventured, once, into Bjorn's interests and America answered that Bjorn was super interested in the human world phenomenon that was My Little Pony.

"You definitely should research this and talk to him about it!"

Bjorn would be proud, America didn't even drive the forklift into the woman when she noticed her standing around later in the shift.
