Ah, what one wouldn't be willing to do for money. Aeseir tugged the stiff lab coat at her collar, trying to pretend the rising hairs on her neck were due to discomfort rather than unease.
"Okay," she said, to no one in particular. Even if she'd screamed, no one outside would have been able to hear her. "Let's get started."
She mixed the ingredients to the best of her ability. She knew even the smallest of missteps could lead to contamination when it came to microbes, requiring she start over. The work demanded a level of finesse that she found oddly satisfying.
She thought she made the mixture pretty well, and certainly the substance looked and smelled vile enough; unfortunately, when she put it within its slot and brought out the mouse, the readings were erratic, and mouse seemed unmoved.

With quiet apology, she killed the mouse and threw it in the bin. Having once been tested, it could not be used again.
She started once more, creating the same mixture as she did before. To her untrained eyes it seemed to be exactly the same; however, she hoped the results would differ. She applied the substance.
At first she assumed it another failure and she moved to retrieve the mouse. Rather than running, it stilled, apparently relaxed. She glanced at the readings, surprised to see its vitals fall, and quickly retrieved her hand. The vitals still fell until it seemed for all the world asleep. A part of her wished to poke it to verify, but she could barely breathe, so worried was she of inciting another failed experiment. Instead, she filled out the report as fast as she could, the writing slanted and barely legible.
