Rohim had grown tired of buzzing around the reception hall. It was very empty and very dull. The other horsemen at least had been interesting to see. Far more enjoyable then the bland white room. So after scrambling his was about the tower he found himself back in Famine’s warm heated labs sighing in delight as his toes dug into the hot sand.

“Yes, yes, yeeeeeee, so much better then white wall and empty rooms with the Dorothy and her lack of information.” Once he made it back to their floor it wasn’t hard to find the Oasis. Kicking up puffs of sand he spotted a young Sage around his age logging by the waters.

“Camixi,” he shouted in delight, his voice a high mix of multiple buzzing separate ones as he strolled over throwing himself down into the sand beside her. “I should have known you would be here of all places. Always in the sand and water and warm suns. Tell me, did you forget things too?”

Again it could not possibly be emphasized enough how good the sand felt to Rohim. The warm small grains scratching in just the right way against his mostly bare back and the folded wings hidden under his tattered scarf and sleeves. His own face in a wide grin that always stretched a tad too far.

“Well maybe you had forgotten, you could have been lost in all those cold white hallways out of some conquest inspired madness,” the buzzing of his voice like irritated bee’s at just the thought. “Ohhh you mean The Dorothy? They had questions, did you rate her? I did not. She is not worthy of rating, we could make a better Dorothy and I don’t even do that work.” He scoffed again, stupid Dorothy.

“They say the crystal outside was green? Now it is red, personally I like the red better. Things are coming back quickly, names, faces, faces with names I like to forget because it makes them mad. This room. You!”

Even as they spoke he was squirming in the sand, every little shift trying to get himself sunken into the delightful grains till his legs and almost half his waist where buried in the warm beach. “Oh… I hadn’t thought about that. I guess so? Even the ones who strut about like proud birds pretending to know more don’t know. They all forgot Yesterday. At least that much the Dorothy was right about.”

Rohim was young, but so old school, he too vibrated with joy, but that was likely due to the way Cami was tossing handfuls of sand to help settle him into his makeshift nest of sorts. Still he was curious now. How did the leaders of the clans handle this? Surely they would remember a little bit more no? They would simply have to ask, or have a fly on the wall do it for them.

“Maybe defunct, beta testing? Mimsy would indeed do so much more. She is better with these things.” That said he thrust a hand into the air, his cell phone clutched inside it, shockingly still working even if it was just covered in sand, after all it was likely Famine Proofed. No spills, no dirt, no terribly greasy slimey gut soaked mess would stop these devices! He hoped. 89% sure. Hadn’t someone texted about dropping one in water earlier too?

He stopped admiring his phone snapping back to Cami’s question with a few blinks of his large eyes, “Oh no, no no, though I met a foolish death who was wearing heels trying to be a proud bird. No. I was talking the famine buzzing around the Rehab room. Tools and supplies acting like they ‘knew things’ but if you ask them they just say the whole ‘people forgot’ line again and again. Rude. Secretive. Not at all good for gathering more information to be stingy like that. Like a Dorothy.”

Rohim missed the sigh from Cami entirely, his phone as expected was still working just fine. Given his tendency to enjoy sand and water it was no shock that his was exposed to these elements fairly often as well as the other common Famine issues. As for War, well, they also made them drop proof, nothing would suck more than a dead phone if you dropped it from a tree or mid flight.

The smack to his head was not unfamiliar, though it was met with a droning of crickets all very irritated about being scolded and lectured; again. To prove how displeased he was he took a few selfies of himself buried into the sand up to his nose in what might be described as a ‘pouting face’ if half of it wasn’t missing in the sand.

Still he sat up a bit pulling out of the sand to complain, “I am a scavenger, I go, I see, I do, I report. All of it, not a single secret. Yet all I get in turn is no, confidential, we don’t have solid results. Not till the project is complete. Rude, rude, rude, ruuuuuuuuuude.” The last ‘rude’ was saturated in the cries of cicadas. Still he paused when she mentioned Mother. His head every so slowly shifted in the sand to glance at Cami, eyes rolling up to focus on her face, “... you have an alarmingly strong point that I would agree with if not for the Dorothy’s one piece of decent knowledge that EVERYONE forgot yesterday.”

The number of times Camixi had done exactly that or something even more forceful was beyond recalling. It was routine, he complained, she corrected, like clock work some things simply continued and where never forgotten.

"Mayhaps, or maybe not. Maybe. We all forgot. Even Mother." He froze for a moment frowning, "But that would be the worst situation. We don't know yet. Maybe I can find out..." he started pondering the bugs to send the little network of eyes. He cut that thought off shaking his head, trying to peek on Mother would probably get him in more trouble then suggesting it.

He was still debating this as she shoved him back down into the sand squirming about a bit. He remained there as she fell into a calm state, one that was not mirrored by him as he vibrated in his sand hole popping back up. "Nooooo! I obey, I do, I am behaved. But I hunger, I want to know and see, the more I know the more I see the better I can be!"

The yelling made him freeze, eyes wide darting side to side, was she calling time out? Was it a game again? His focus locked onto her again. "Time, time, time and again, we talk about this, I will not burst, I will retain it all in my hungry greed."

Fidgeting in his now half ruined pit of sand he settled down again watching as she spoke and flopped into the sand beside him. "You're mothers know right. Taking all is the best way, the only way. To be restricted is to dampen experiment, dampen knowledge. Dull the mind." He nodded quickly sighing as he started to squirm deeper into the sand again.

"We will be heirs. We will be great and all knowing," he paused, "You already do a lot of yelling." He said with a smirk.

Rohim was mid shuffle in the sand sinking down till he was almost shoulder deep again when Cami suddenly rolled over onto the sand before him. Their faces inches apart as she still drew even closer it seemed.

His eyes narrowed two narrow spots of gold locked onto her own eyes, a low hum of buzzing coming from his chest below the sand as she spoke of secrets, the best secret ever. He broke contact only for a moment to glance around seeking out prying eyes and bugs that were not to be trusted.

Once he was sure no prying eyes, ears, or bugs lingered he whispered back, “This one loves a good secret. We will keep this one from all the others who do not share,” there was a wild fire in his eyes now eager to make a deal with Camixi and take this secret to their graves.

That boiling blood was more than desire, something more then even lust, a primal hunger to know, to have, to keep for one who was told to always willingly give there was a deep desire to keep something only to himself, between the two of them in a way he rarely was able to cherish.

He felt the warmth of her finger as she pressed against his skull, the soft words whispered a promise and a threat wrapped into one that he had no objection to in the slightest. He pressed his head forward a bit, “Of course,” he whispered as she finally spoke of her dreams. To rule, to be the Queen to overthrow or rather replace those in charge when the moment was right. A sinful thing to say, to imply taking over a clan as the leader. Age was long and almost everlasting, but mistakes would be made. People would forget things and it was up to others to replace them when they made such grave mistakes. Mistakes that could be happening right now. His body shook with wicked glee, his humming still low buried in the sand and deep inside his chest.

Slowly two hands rose from the sand cupping Camixi’s cheeks as he sat up farther from the sand listening to those deadly hypnotic voice of his dear friend, and a promise of knowledge that would quench a lifelong thirst.

Finally he spoke, a low key buzz, “But you will need friends for such ambitious goals,” his grin was wicked and deadly, she sat up suddenly pulling away his eyes still hungry now with a goal, a secret, and a pact. He smiled softly and switched his own tone, “A pact sealed and we shall not break.”
