Kyriaka lay where she’d fallen, breathing heavily. She’d felt the blow and heard and felt the crack as the bones in her right foreleg broke. The pain had flooded her mind, and she’d gone down. Surely she’d be dead by now if her familiar hadn’t been there to chase the zebra away. Despite her pain, she knew they were in trouble now.

A sharp voice ordered her not to move. As if she could. She wanted to laugh, but it would hurt too much. Instead she laid there and groaned. Kyriaka kept her eyes firmly closed. She did not want to see her leg right now.

Iphigeneia watched the zebra herd race off into the distance. She turned worried eyes onto the downed leopardess. Clearly Kyriaka was in no condition to think. It was up to her. She unfortunately didn’t know medicine. While she did know that broken bones needed a splint, she didn’t know how to reset the bones properly could possible cause more damage to the leg. They had a healer back at the pride, but it would easily take her all night and the next day to get there and back. That left the leopard, injured, to fend for herself during that time. That was far from ideal. She looked worriedly back and forth. What should she do?

They had been out in the rogue lands for a time now and while most of the time they travelled as a group, when they stopped they each wandered a little alone with the promise of returning to the group before the sun set too far in to the night. It was exhilarating, being out, being away from what she knew. The rogue lands were so very varied.

She had stood and watched as a herd of zebra stampeded past, she had even considered hunting one, but she wasn't really a hunter. It certainly wasn't her strongest skill, she could hunt if she needed to but she neither wanted to nor needed to so she simply watched as the striped horses raced away.

As the last of the zebra rushed past she once again started to walk. Her keen ears picked up a sound. Groaning? Raising a brow the massive lioness made a beeline for the sound only to find a scene she found booth strange and confusing. The cat type creature, sort of looked like a lioness, she knew what the other creature was, she had seen maned wolves, but the cat, that was a uhhhhh, ah it didn't matter, it looked rather hurt.

Taking another step forward the brick red female tilted her head and paused. She actually wanted to help, she could see that the leopardess was injured, what ever the creature was, it needed help and she knew she could do it. She was a healer deep down, that had always been her calling.

Kyriaka drew in slow deep breaths. It was difficult to move and almost as hard to think. A briefly squinted eye showed Iphi standing protectively beside her if looking a bit worried. Without a doubt they were in a sticky spot. “Cover me… over with branches… and I’ll play dead... until you get back.”

It was the best she could come up with. Just laying here hurt. There was no way she’d be able to “limp” home, even with Iphi’s formidable shoulder to lean on. It almost helped they were the same size, but it would take too long. Her nose was still working told her someone else was there.

Iphigeneia was worried, no doubt about it. She had no good options right at the moment. First was to stay with Kyriaka, that would protect her but wouldn’t get help to her any faster. Second was to go for the help and leave her to the mercies of those around; which could be non-existent. “Don’t be stupid! There are things that eat the dead and a few branches won’t stop them.” Like hyenas.

The same scent that the leopardess had caught also reached her nose. She turned toward the strongest scent and growled, raising her hackles. Iphi would defend her friend as best she could. When she saw the lioness, she knew she wouldn’t be a match for the powerful creature if she decided to attack.

Kiahi'kripi paused for a moment. The maned wolf was clearly threatened by her. Still, the painful groans of the, cat, caused her to continue forward in-daunted. "I'm not going to hurt you." It occurred to her suddenly that maybe she should say something instead of just charging in. She had to remember that this wasn't her home land, not everyone would accept a massive lioness charging in to help. That was why she was here though. Uh, yes she should say it.

"Let me fix the cat." She stated bluntly, taking another step forward, she could easily brush past the maned wolf to help the, oh, wait, maybe it was a leopard? Or a cheetah? Which one was which again? Ugh, it didn't matter she could fix the cat the maned wolf just had to move.

From her downed position, Kyriaka couldn’t see the third party that had shown up. Her nose told her it was a lion though. That could be bad. Iphi was no match for a full grown lion. If they both had been healthy and working together they might have been able to drive it off. Since they didn’t have a kill, she had to wonder why the lion had shown up.

She was surprised to hear the lion offering to help fix her. Kyriaka slitted an eye to peer at her benefactor. “It can’t hurt Iphi,” she muttered under her breath. Somehow, an ideal third option had been granted to them. She wasn’t about to look a gift in the mouth. In fact, she really didn’t want to look this gift in the mouth. It might be her last sight.

Iphigeneia wasn’t sure she believed this lioness. Why had she even shown up in the first place? She was surprised when the lioness said she wasn’t going to hurt them. Iphi was even more so, when she offered to help. But, how had she known? The maned wolf glanced at her friend as she spoke up. She wanted to say that yes it could. Their situation was too dire right now to refuse the help.

With a soft growl of warning, she moved slowly to the side. She was going to watch every move this lioness made. One false move and she’d attack. In one corner of her mind, she was utterly grateful to this lioness for helping if truly that is all she wanted to do. Iphi promised to do something nice for the lioness if this proved all she wanted was to help them.

The heavily muscled lioness padded forwards and tilted her head at the leopardess. It was easy for her to see what was wrong, she had seen such injuries before, a break int he bone had to be set immediately or it wouldn't fix correctly.

Despite her massive size Kiahi'kripi very carefully lifted the leopards leg, her touch was firm but gentle and she moved the limb extremely carefully, moving it incorrectly would only make things worse. "I need a thick tree branch and dry grass strands wolf." She stated rather abruptly looking the dog type creature over. "Hurry now." She grunts and looks at the leopardess.

"You, I'm going to go with, leopard." She raise dboth brows curiously, she realised on closer inspection that the female cat was too bulky to be a cheetah. "It's going to hurt but I can set it so you can use this again in the future. Probably have a limp forever though, can't fix that." She paused for a moment, she was perhaps being too abrupt, but that was the way she had been raised, she had no real bedside manner but it wasn't expected of a firekin.

Kyriaka choked back an exclamation of pain as the lion moved her injured leg and resisted the urge to knock her paw away. Moving only made her hurt more. Now that the lioness was closer, she noted absently her unusually coloring. It was very striking. And her size. She was probably the largest lion she’d ever seen.

She didn’t say much when the lioness sent her familiar off for stuff. Kyriaka wouldn’t tell a guard or healer how to do their job, and the lioness seemed to know what she was doing. She was in more capable paws than if Iphi or she herself were tending her now. At least, that’s what she hoped. Could the lioness be pretending? O f course, but what choice did they have. She squinted up at the lioness with her weird words. Did that mean she was going to fix her leg?

“It already hurts!” She growled around clenched teeth.

Iphigeneia bristled as the lioness ordered her about. Who did she think she was? Only Kyriaka could order her. Thinking of her bonded she glanced at the wounded leopard and sighed. Right, that’s who and why. Still.

“My name is Iphigeneia, lioness. Not wolf, not anything else you might come up with. Kyriaka is the leopardess’ name.” Having set the record straight, she turned to search for the items required. Thick tree branch? How much thick of a branch did she need or want? Iphi sighed as she nosed about. She didn’t like feeling helpless, which was how she felt in this situation.

The big lioness Attempted a light smile at the leopardess. "Kyriaka, your Foreleg is broken, I need to move it in to place, it will hurt a lot, but if I don't do it you will never be able to walk on it again." Lifting the leopardesses leg, she paused only for a moment before, moving the limb carefully aligning the bones, being as gentle as she possibly could. Giving a nod the giant female smiled "I'm sorry. It's the only way to fix it, or your ill never walk on it again." She tilts her head gently, perhaps she could speak to the female a little more now she had at least fixed the worst part.

"When your wolf, when Iphigenia comes back I will be able to bind it so you can walk on it." She pauses again "My name is Kiahi'Kripi." Again a light smile, she wanted to ask questions, but she had been told by her elders to be serious but she was finding it so hard not to ask questions. "So..I'v never seen a leopard before." Her ears twitched, her tail following suit, she really wanted to ask some very serious questions about what exactly a leopard did, how were they different from lions? She guessed she would have to wait until she had bound the other females leg.

She could tell her leg was broken by the blazing way it hurt. However she said nothing as the lioness stated the obvious. If her leg hurt this much just laying here, how much worst was it about to get when she fixed it? Kyriaka quickly found out it was “a lot”. Enough that she blacked out for a short while from the pain.

She came back to herself a short while later. Her leg still throbbed, but she remained where she was. “I’d definitely like to walk again.” Walk heck, she wanted to do more than that! Getting home would be full of fun. She peered blearily up at the lioness. “I can’t say it’s a pleasure to meet you Kiahi’Kripi, but I thank you for helping a stranger.” Kyriaka blinked in surprise when the lioness admitted she hadn’t seen a leopard before. That was odd. “Are there none where you live?”

Iphi hunted around until she had a few options for sticks for the lioness to pick from. If they weren’t right, well she could tell her what it was she did want. Instead of sending her wildly out here on a crazy hare chase. The maned wolf snorted.

Eventually she felt she’d gathered enough dried grass, and gathering up her sticks made her way back. By the time she returned the two female were waiting. By the look of her leg, the lioness must have already straightened it. She dropped her materials nearby. “You didn’t specify what you wanted, so I took some guesses.”

The lioness shook her head. "I come from the sands, there are only lions there. Lions like me, red and black and white, built to survive in the harsh desert. Very few other creatures live there though I have seen some wolves and jackals. You are the first leopard I have ever seen." She gushed, feeling she had suddenly become very chatty. She cleared her throat trying to once again become stoic, she was supposed to be representing the firekin.

"I am a medic Kyriaka, it is against my nature to see anyone suffer even someone who is not like me." She smiles a half smile turning her gaze upon the wolf. "These will do." Picking up one of the thick boughs the lioness split the wood carefully in to thin reeds. She was methodical cutting each piece to fit the leopardesses leg before once again lifting the injured limb. The dry grass she wound in to pleats making a strong, almost unbreakable twine.

She was slow in the process but she worked carefully and eventually the leopards leg was completely encased in thin reeds of wood, the pleats of grass tied tightly to keep each piece in place, and almost completely hiding the handiwork beneath. "That will do it." She sighs a deep sigh and nods. "You must walk on it as little as possible for at least a moon."

The lioness deciding to talk about herself, gave her a point of distraction. It helped a little. Kyriaka tried to imagine a place of sand, and failed, and then a place with only lions, and again she failed. She’d lived in the rogue lands too long where one could run into anything, and then after that with her pride which accepted almost any specie. From the sounds of it, her home was very harsh. Not a place she’d want if she could.

“That’s good news for me.” It must have been pure, stupid blind luck that a medic was here right when she needed one. Although a bit short on bedside manner, at least her leg had a chance of healing. Thankfully then Iphi returned, and she smiled exhaustedly at the wolf. Kyriaka put her thanks for the help into that smile. She tried to hold still as her leg was wrapped in wood and bound.

Iphi settled herself beside the leopard and watched with interest. She’d been mildly afraid the lioness would turn up her nose at what she’d brought. She nodded as the lioness went to work. It was interesting to see how the lioness made the cast, but nothing more. She’d leave the healing to the healers.

“I will make sure our healer keeps a close eye on her. Thank you for your help. One more favor if you can. Will you stay with her while I run home for our healer? I don’t want her laying out here alone and unprotected.” Iphi hoped the lioness could stay to watch over the leopard while she was gone.

The lioness gave a nod. She wasn't going to abandon a patient just because she was done. It was nice, the leopard had such a loyal companion. She pondered this as her own family did not have any companions such as this, she knew that there were others in the firekin that had smaller friends, usually hunting buddies, birds of prey, smaller dogs and snakes. It had never occurred to her how useful they could be until this moment. She didn't voice this though. That would probably be rude to the wolf that clearly thought herself as an independent being.

Clearing her throat she spoke quietly "I will stay until you return but then I must return to my travelling companions." The troupe wouldn't leave without her, she knew that, but she still knew she shouldn't dally for too long "Be quick if you please." She settled herself in to a comfortable position, though she stayed sat, her ears swivelling, she may have been a medic but she knew how to fight and more to the point how to guard. She could protect her patient until the wolf returned, it would after all, be pointless patching her up if someone came along and undid all of her work.

She smiled tightly, but with a bit of humor as the two made plans to keep her safe and bring extra help. Looked like she didn't have much say in the matter. At least she'd have time to get to know the lioness a bit better. Kyriaka settled in for a long night.

"Thank you," the wolf said simply. She'd travel as fast as she could. Oh, she'd be super tired before this night was over. Not only getting back home, but leading the healer back here! Iphi watched the lioness assume her guarding duties, then turned and was off like a shot in the dark. Thankfully, she was use to moving in the dark.
