User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Crescenzo swam through the kelp forest, his tail lazily moving from side to side. Sunlight filtered from the waves below, and the surge pushed him back and forth. Crescenzo considered that. He rather liked the kelp forest. It was rich with life, and the tall kelp fronds showed all the world that forests were not limited to the land. But was this the Right Place?

Crescenzo was a nova on a quest. He was looking for the Right Place. He'd know it if he saw it. In fact, he'd know it long before he saw it--it had to be a place rich with life, but easy to find, some place with plenty of shelter just in case. It should be relatively close to shore, but distant enough to assert his natural independence from the land. It had to be...right.

Other stars had herds. Certainly on land, they did--and honestly, Crescenzo was jealous. There were precious few large nova herds, and even then, few of them seemed to be growing. He wanted the opposite--a herd that grew and expanded and included Novas of all type. To start such a herd, he needed a territory first, a place for the herd to be located. He would also need to find members, people who wanted to join his herd, to make a community together. That would be tricky--the ocean was a large place, and to add in all the waterways of the land, well--novae were well-spread out in any case.

For now, the search for a new home took over every other priority. Even his oldest longing had been set aside--and what longing can be more fundamental to a star's heart than the longing for someone to share it with?

User Image Kasumi had Left home again, her mother's new children were grown, though they still stayed relatively close to home but Kasumi needed to get out, at least for a while. She always returned home after all her mother worried about her when she went off on her own. Kasumi didn't mind always returning home. Her heart though was for traveling, she wanted to explore every inch of the ocean, the ocean was a big place and she doubted she'd see it all in her lifetime but Kasumi would give it her best shot.

Kasumi swam through the kelp much like a mermaid disturbing the gentle swaying of the kelp. It was lovely the light shining through the water as it did, there were so many fish swimming around the forest.

Though Kasumi was a novae, she had a horn from her father, she probably looked like a narwhal. she smiled pausing for a moment to admire the beauty of the forest again.

Land stars could scent the air to detect other stars nearby. Surrounded as they were by water, it was not as easy for novae to do the same underwater. But the shifting of the currents, the swaying of the kelp, the way the fish moves as a large animal entered their space, as well as, sometimes at least, the sound another star made, could all alert you to the presence of another of your kind. So Crescenzo knew there was another star nearby, even if he couldn't see them. He knew it was a star because few of the fish were actually frightened. Most Novae didn't eat fish, so most fish had no reason to be afraid of Novae. So now all that was left to find out was who this other star was. They could be a potential new member of his future herd, or at least know a place to found his city or people who would be willing to join him. He didn't want to be a wandering herd. He wanted them to be stationary.

Crescenzo swam over to the other Nova and was immediately glad he had. The other star was a very pretty mare. She looked very graceful with her fish fins and her horn. He wondered if she was the kind of person who used her horn as a weapon or as a tool. He was willing to bet the latter—she seemed non-threatening. He smiled at her. "Hello there! My name is Crescenzo, miss. May I know your name?"

Kasumi glanced over in surprise as another novae emerged from the kelp forest. The mare smiled back, she was surprised to see how different this novae was. She'd seen a lot of different fin types but not this kind before. Curious! Times like this was when she loved exploring. Quite a gentleman "Hello!" She greeting staring at him intrigued. She was doing her best to contain her questions but she was clearly excited to meet someone so different. "My name is Kasumi, daughter of Izumi and Anu." She at least managed to finish her greeting but she was clearly staring at his fins and tail. She really wanted to examine them.

That was the farthest thing from polite though! She did her best to resist. She was trying to be a lady like her mother!

"Where are you from if I may? She asked politely containing herself.

The mare was lively and animated, and Crescenzo liked her immediately. She looked excited to meet him, and also very curious. Maybe she was staring a little too hard at his tail, but he didn't mind--he knew how strange he must look. His fins, while more common in his homewaters, weren't very common on the continental shelf. It was more of an open-ocean look. Crescenzo smiled at her and tried to hide the fact that he was looking her over as well. Now that he could see her better, he saw that she had hardly any scars--another indication that she was a peaceful star, more inclined to talk and negotiate than to fight her way out of a situation.

Good. Crescenzo hated fighting. He was good at it, but he hated it anyway. It smacked of...sloppiness. Not figuring out a proper solution on his own, that kind of thing, resorting to a solution that benefited solely himself and no one else. "Hello, Kasumi, it's very nice to meet you. I'm from Tiburona Mountain, a long way out to sea from here. So I'm not exactly from around here, as you can see." He waved his tail at her.

She seemed curious about it, and he could see why. He smiled at her. "You can ask, if you'd like. About my fins and my tail, I don't mind, really." He was being honest with her--if she wanted to look, he was fine with looking, so long as she didn't make a big fuss over it for a long time. Scientific curiosity was the sort of thing that was amusing or endearing in small doses, but annoying after a while.

"It's a pleasure to meet you," She noticed he was taking a good look at her too, she was quite pretty after all and rather unusual herself being a hybrid. She had her father's horn after all.

"Really?" Kasumi smiled with pure delight swimming gracefully over and around the kelp in no time at all closing the gap between them as she took a good look at his fins "Thank you!." she grinned "How curious!" she smiled as she jotted down notes in her mind he must be excellent at swimming judging by the way his fins were shaped. Hers were more for short distances around the shelf or the kelp, much more for show, despite that she loved to explore.

"I certainly can see, Is it much more open water around the mountain?" she asked him curiously swimming backward as not to make it any more awkward.

She looked observant. It was hard to explain what that even meant, but it was the way she was looking at him, like she was taking stock of details, and not just on a purely aesthetic level. He'd been hoping to meet stars like her. His plan for his herd, for his city, would be to have a library, a repository of knowledge, and the scientifically inclined, like this mare, would fit into such a place just wonderfully. He should ask her, then, to join him--when the time came, or maybe now. It was hard to find someone in the ocean after you had parted ways. It would be simpler if they could travel together...

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Kasumi. Do you live around here?" he said.
He nodded. "Yes, Tiburona is surrounded by open water. We're a seamount--a mountain under the water, so we're the perfect meeting place for fish, a place for seaweed to grow, that kind of thing. More people out there have more unusual fins. I mean," he added. "My fins aren't exactly common, but they're much better known out there than they are here. Your kind of fins, though," he said, "are much less common in my homewaters than they are elsewhere. They are very beautiful, if I may say so, so I can't see why we don't see more of them in the open ocean." Maybe he shouldn't have said that last bit. After all, his logic there was a little...uh...well, he didn't want to seem like he was exoticising her, but he would have thought that more Novas from the open ocean would have visited the continent, met these, these "beta finned" Novas and invited them back to their homelands. He would have expected more Stars to take them as mates, with such beautiful fins, but apparently very few, if any of them, had. "It was quite a surprise, seeing fins like yours for the first time. So I sort of know how you feel. Or, how I imagine you feel." He shook his head. "I get the feeling I'm not being as gentlemanly today as I would like to be. I apologize for my words, if they cause you offense."

Kasumi was pleased her suspicion was correct. The way the fins were shaped told her as much. She'd explored quite a bit but she'd yet to see a sea mountain. But Kasumi took mental notes, perhaps that would be the next place she visited. She would love to see it and all the novae.

Shaking her head "I do not, my family lives closer to shore ." after all she loved exploring. "I'm a bit different from my family." Kasumi blinked and then blushed realizing what he was saying In her family almost everyone had the same fins except Eirwen and her father who had the flat fins meant for speed in open water. Her own fins weren't really meant for the long journeys that she liked to take. She'd not thought of how rare her fins were in other waters .

"My fins aren't really meant for open water but, I enjoy the travel despite that." she said still blushing a bit. No one had ever said such things about her fins before. She wasn't really sure where to go aside the practical use of her fins which she tended to ignore for the sake of her journey and learning.

"You're sea mount sounds fascinating."
