Sun Hunter SHADOW RUN General Information The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.
If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.
Mechanics You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel. Simply roll for attack as you would in battle. If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings. After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.
Bonus Mechanics This bonus is consumable. The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.
Trainees: 0 recovery Sun Trainees: 1 recovery Hunters: 1 recovery Sun Hunters: 2 recoveries

Just a month or two to go till it was three years since she woke up on Deus as a hunter. Three years... huh? Just how did she make it through all the missions and what did she accomplish in retrospect? Nellie found herself wondering from time to time.
If she was going to stick around for a bit without getting herself killed in action, maybe it was time that she stopped drifting aimlessly like how she somehow found herself in front of the Shadow Run training course right now, sit down to contemplate what she wanted to do and then start working on achieving it.

Henry, new as he was, had not exactly planned on making his way to any of the training courses today, but had somehow found himself there after a wrong turn on his way back to the dorms. It wasn't the first time he'd wandered off course, it wouldn't be the last, but instead of simply going about his business as he might have on any other day, he found himself stopping as he spotted a familiar girl sitting in front of what he'd later find out was the Sun course. "Uh, Nellie?" A few steps closer. "What are you doing? Are you okay?" Admittedly she didn't look hurt, but he wasn't sure why she'd just be sitting out here by herself.

Nellie quickly jumped up from the ground as soon as she heard someone approach followed by a familiar voice calling out to her. "Henry." Shaking her head a few times with a smile, she waved her hands a few times as she tried to reassure him that everything was alright.
"Nellie's ok. Was just thinking about how much has been accomplished over the years and what can be done about that henceforth." With the explanation out of the way, she gestured towards the Sun training course entrance next. "Has Henry tried this training course before?"

An easy, relieved smile appeared as she assured him that she was alright, though he'd give her a thoughtful sort of look as he continued. It wasn't the most normal sort of thing to say, and he had to wonder what might have prompted it. Introspective observation, perhaps. It didn't really matter, since he wasn't about to ask her about it. It seemed too personal. As she gestured to the training course behind her he'd glance past her at it before shaking his head. "No. I haven't done any of them yet. Are they hard?" As quick;y as the words had left his mouth, he regretted them. It shouldn't matter if it was hard. He needed to start trying t be better, and if training would help, then he was going to have to do it. "I mean, um. Are you going to do it?"

If Henry was a hunter for as long as Nellie had been, it wouldn't be hard for him to figure out why she had those thoughts about what she was doing on the island, her being a trainee still after all these years and whether she was truly alright with everything. She was thankful nonetheless that Henry didn't speak anymore of it as it wasn't something that he could understand plus it was something that she had to figure out for herself.
"They can be challenging. But they are do-able so long as Henry and Nellie put in their best efforts and persevere." She smiled encouragingly before nodding her head at his next question. It was normal to be concerned about how difficult the training course was with respect to what one was able to do at this point for someone as new as Henry so she didn't see any point in being judgemental about him based on what was said. It wasn't like a newly hatched fledgeling would know how to fly until much later in its life. "Yeah. Will Henry like to join Nellie? Does Henry know what needs to be done for this training course?"

He smiled weakly back at her, not entirely convinced that effort and hope was enough to succeed at things, but willing to give it a shot regardless. Besides, it was something he needed to be doing. "Yeah, I'd like to join, if you don't mind," he answered, looking from the training ground back to Nellie. "But I have no idea what this course is all about. Do you?"

"Nellie doesn't mind at all." Nellie shook her head, waving a hand towards the tunnel entrance to indicate that that was their destination so that both she and Henry could begin to head towards it as she filled him in along the way. "Nellie knows that this is a course maintained by the Sun Division. It consists of waves of creatures that anyone attempting will have to fight and getting through at least 5 rounds of these creatures is required to pass."

So it was going to be fighting, probably. If Sun was in charge of it. Henry chewed on the inside of his lip thoughtfully before squaring his shoulders and stepping up to the door. "Okay then. Lets do this." He summoned his weapon, wanting to be ready to face down whatever was inside the course.

The problem with being a Mist hunter, as Nellie had come to realize over the years, was that they were expected to be a Jack of all trades so that they could easily fill in for any of the other divisions when they were shorthanded. Having a hand in everything however unfortunately also meant that they weren't going to be as adept as someone who focused all their attention and effort on honing the specialised skill sets that was expected of them.
There would come a time in the future when Nellie would have to think about what she was good at and pick a specialization to focus more of her time on like the Intermediate Trainees and Full Hunters who had already moved up through the ranks before her. For now, she was content to spend time together on the Sun division training course with a fellow Mist trainee like Henry until their superiors decided that she was ready to move on to bigger things.
Calling Niffy to her hands, she swung her fists at the shadowlings, sticking close to Henry just in case the other trainee hunter needed someone to help watch his back. "Nellie and Henry can do this."

Henry had thought he was ready for this, but he wasn't nearly as ready as he'd thought. The doors opened, he summoned Niceven, and instantly found himself being charged by shadowlings. On instinct he stumbled backwards, but the door had closed behind him and there was nowhere left to go but forward. Teeth grit, he swung out with the oversided throwing star, and by luck more than design he managed to hit one. Status Wave: 1Attack Dmg: 1 Total Shadowlings taken out: 1 Recoveries left: 0
