Frit Frit was with the whole battle hype thing. It was something new, it was something one could do to seem as if they were socializing, and at the same time, it was a science experiment. Magic was cool! Frit had mostly just experimented with it on plants, but other nightmares was a whole new playing field, and she wanted results. When the Acadamy's Battle Club started up, with a prize of one entrant for a local all you can eat buffet, Frit knew now was the time to experiment. The nightmare looked at the list of fellow combatants, and chose one at random. "Battle Club fight?" Frit asked the other nightmare when she found them.

Fionchaor looked up from his clipboard, to consider the nightmare that stood before him. He regarded her for a moment with his usual chilly expression, before returning to review his notes. “My apologies,” he told her, voice brusque. He flicked his pen over a box on the page to make a tidy check mark. “I'm not a member. I'm just here to ensure that everything is running smoothly for the first meet. If you're looking for tutoring, I usually don't start for another hour. Try asking one of the others.”

Frit Frit frowned. Usually most people were just polite enough to accept something simple like this. Maybe this boy was not very good at magic. "Oh, Im not here for tutoring, but thank you for the offer." Frit leaned in to whisper, not wanting to embarrass the other nightmare. "If your nervous about a battle i can promise to go easy on you. Its not too hard. Ive already done a few, so i can totally walk you through it." Frit smiled kindly. Some people were just shy to get started. She could understand it.

Apparently Fionchaor had not been explicit enough. Though at first it seemed the nightmare understood, only a moment later she leaned in to whisper in his ear. The elf stood perfectly still, listening to what she had to say with unflinching composure. When she pulled away, he turned to look at her. As he made eye contact, he treated her to a slow, steady blink. His expression was unfathomable.
The easiest solution would be to politely decline, excuse himself, and resume his work elsewhere Supposing she proved persistent however, she would only waste more of his time until either he conceded or she got fed up. There was no telling how long either would take.
“One battle,” Fionchaor agreed. “Follow me, please.” Turning, he guided the nightmare to a segment of the classroom that had been roped off for magical spars. Depositing his clipboard and pen on a table, he traded them for a potted plant that sat in a window. He brought it into the makeshift arena with him. “You may make the first move.”
Frit didnt notice any slight the elf might have made. She was too interested in seeing how the magic worked, and how she could make it do what she wanted.

Still holding the plant between both hands, Fionchaor closed his eyes and focused his energy. He visualised the vines growing before him, reaching out and snaking their way towards his opponent. Almost as soon as he thought it, he heard the rustling of leaves. Opening his eyes, he saw the plant growing at a rapid rate, its vines sprawling across the room.
Fionchaor redirected his magic. The vines wound themselves together and then lashed out at the hybrid in a swift striking motion. There was a crack as they made contact with the skin, cutting through her coat and leaving a deep welt across her shoulders.
As the hybrid prepared her response, Fionchaor watched her carefully. He recognised the motions of her spell, but reacted too slow. A beam of light struck him across the eyes and he was blinded. He clamped the shut, reeling in pain. The vines he had used to flay the hybrid withdrew, as though uncertain of their next move.
As the bright light receded, Fionchaor's vision gradually returned. He could see the hybrid struggling with her magic. A wrong gesture cost her and she temporarily blinded herself. Fionchaor had no pity. Taking advantage of her lapse in concentration he resumed his assault. The vines rushed towards the imp once more. Unwinding themselves, they snaked across her body, binding her limbs and restricting her movement. Then when she could barely move, they began to squeeze with more strength than a plant had any right to.
Frit tried to aim the light the correct way, but she was still a little blinded form earlier. Maybe a bright light spell wasn't all it was supposed to be... She resolved to get sunglasses.

For a minute, the two appeared to be caught in a stalemate. Then the plant vines fell limp and shrivelled away from the imp. Fionchaor placed his pot on the ground. He straightened, brushing off a few leaves that stuck to his uniform. “I'm all out of mana,” he told the hybrid. “So I'll concede the match. Hopefully that satisfies you?” He stared at her, expression questioning but expectant.
After a beat, he turned to collect his clipboard. As he began to depart however, he turned back over his shoulder to address the hybrid once more. “I trust that you'll clean up the mess,” he said. Then, without further ado, he left.
