Current Progression Intro Japan is separated by the 5 kingdoms: Shukketsu, Yume, Ōkami, Genshi, and Ryu.
These kingdoms live in relative peace. Each kingdom is home to a certain type of people.
All kingdoms rely on each other for survival, though the walls that separate them are very clear and prominent.
Throughout the kingdoms there are ninja gangs, most of which serve to do mercenary jobs and are paid under the table.
The two most notable are the Oni and Akama.
Their intentions are unknown.

A kingdom of vampires, Shukketsu's people require the blood of living creatures.
The most common bite to eat is that of the criminals who have been sent to pay for their crimes.
The Royal Family of Shukketsu has the ability to read and enter the minds of others.
This is of particular concern to Yume.
All manner of people can be found in the kingdom of Shukketsu, although residency is reserved for the bloodthirsty and their companions.
Visitors come to Shukketsu to see their imprisoned loved ones, in pursuit of eternal life, and/or just to have a good time at the many popular festivals that are hosted or on the extremely popular beaches.
The economy of Shukketsu rests on its transient party-goers and payment received from kingdoms per criminal sent.
Protected by a spell barrier, vampires can walk in the daylight within the kingdom of Shukketsu.

Yume is the kingdom of mages and dreamwalkers.
The royal bloodline of Yume is particularly prophetic. Able to predict the future, they are prohibited from leaving their kingdom.
All cross-kingdom negotiations that involve Yume take place in their capital city, Kisai.
Cautiously allied with the vampires, Yume provides a spell barrier that allows for vampires to walk in the daylight within the realm of Shukketsu.
In return, vampires are restricted from entering the kingdom of Yume.

The kingdom of wolf tamers, and naturally vampire hunters, is the kingdom of Ōkami.
Ōkami is responsible for dealing with all vampire criminals and for protecting the Royal Family of Yume.
Vampires are immune to magic.
Yume protects themselves from vampires by being able to remove the spell barrier at any time during the day, but at night they are extremely vulnerable to attack.
And not everyone in Shukketsu cares about the fate of the vampire kingdom, especially when they can replenish their numbers by converting humans.

Genshi is richest of the 5 kingdoms. Ōban, the capital of Genshi, is the home of the Royal Family.
Their main source of revenue is medicine, at least on paper.
Home to the largest black market, Genshi buys and sells high value and illegal merchandise.
Through this activity, Royal Family of Genshi has been able to collect ancient artifacts that could easily lead to the destruction of Japan.
This is the rationale Genshi gives for deterring other kingdoms from intervening.
Well..that and withholding medicine from the rest of the kingdoms in the event of a deadly plague.
Genshi is extremely important to the economy of the other kingdoms.
While the black market activities are at least shady, Ōban has been assigned the official trade capital of the kingdoms.

The second oldest next to Yume, Ryu is the land of the dragon tamers.
Before this kingdom's formation, dragons terrorized most of Japan unrestrained.
It was a banished mage named Tokage who began the capture and study of dragons in the mountains.
Tokage was banned from the kingdom of Yume for being born a mage who could drain the magic of others.
Faced with certain death after a dragon suddenly broke from it's confinement, Tokage began accidentally drawing the magic out of the dragon.
This was an ability of his that he was completely unaware of and lead to him become part dragonkin.
A kingdom began to form of mages who were banished for being able to drain magic and their numbers increased as the mages began to form pacts with the dragons.
Ryu and Yume have a difficult relationship, as Yume banished the mages to the mountains expecting they would die.
Tokage lives as the emperor of Ryu. A peace offering from Yume, Empress Mizu was his first and only wife.
She was the only member of the Yume's royal family who was not born with clairvoyance, but this made no difference to Tokage.
He had pined for her since the moment he laid eyes on her. Empress Mizu hated him even after she took her last breathe.
Rather ancient, Tokage and Mizu had many sons who, those of which became emperors, continue the tradition of taking Yume royalty as their wives.
