Dr. Jannisari needed to be in Gambino to attend a business meeting. It was a horrible, dreary thing to schmooze with some investors for more research money. But, she remembered that Aadhira had originally lived there and asked him if he'd like to visit a friend. To her surprise, he declined, but insisted on going to the mall for a while. She simply let him be. To put it bluntly, Aadhire wasn't sure if any of the raevans he'd know would even remember him, much less care why he'd been gone. He couldn't deny, however, that it was kind of nice to roam somewhere he was familiar with. The raevan drifted along, window-shopping, debating buying something brightly colored to lift his spirits.

The end of spring season into summer brought a lot of things into Gambino, most commonly sales and tourist. Cruz had come to expect these sorts of things -- new faces, new merchandise, new game releases that his guardian seemed to be dreading more and more with each passing year -- but what he did not expect to see on a late May day was someone he had not bumped into for quite a long time.
Cruz could not say he was familiar with Aadhira, not like he was familiar with this particular raevan's guardian, but but the frei was incredibly striking and nearly impossible to miss even in a crowd. It was a long time since Cruz had heard anything from Justin, not since the peacock raevan was first introduced to him, but even then it felt like the man had slipped away as a friend and become less comfortable following his botched confession to Anita. Cruz could only blame himself for that one, he egged the man on after all. And here, now, Justin was nowhere to be seen; Aadhira was alone.
"Heyo?" he greeted as passively as he could manage, one hand raised while the other was occupied with a water bottle. Cruz floated closer but still kept a comfortable couple of feet between them. "You're -- Aadi? D'you remember me?" He wrote a lopsided and careful smile, hopeful despite the time that had passed.

Aadhira blinked slowly, luminous eyes taking in the green raevan. "I remember you, Cruz, right?" They'd met once, maybe twice - Aadi couldn't really remember the specifics of it, but the generalization was there. But what he did remember was that Cruz was a cheerful type and that seemed like a soothing thing right now. "I'm surprised your remember me." A beat. "Justin isn't here, though."

His name came from Aadhira's lips and Cruz instantly brightened. They certainly never had much chance to interact but having already done so at least once made things much easier. There was a certain sweetness involved with reunions that first meetings could never have and Cruz was quite fond of the feeling. "Yeah!" he chimed, shoulders straightening as he floated with a little more confidence.
"You're pretty hard to forget." Cruz chuckled before he took a sip of his water bottle. Between Aadi's appearance and the fact Cruz considered his guardian a friend, how could he possibly have forgotten? His confidence waned slightly at the news of Justin's absence, considering how long it had been since they last spoke, but another reunion could wait for another time. "That's okay. Did he drop you off or did he just go to another store?" As he asked, Cruz turned his head to look over the throngs of people moving through the mall behind them. Of course, not a one stuck out to him.

It was kind of nice to hear that he'd made a sort of lasting impression on Cruz, and Aadi decided it must have been because of his looks... rather than his manners or lack thereof. His smile faltered for a second when Cruz looked for Justin. "No, he's not here. He's not in Gambino anymore, I think." He knew.

Cruz looked back to Aadi with a resigned smile at the frei's first dismissal. Then he continued and the croc's face went through a slow turn to neutrality, then wide-eyed concern. "You -- you don't know?" Cruz's arms went slack at his sides, the grip on his water bottle weak but firm enough to keep from dropping it. "What do you mean? He-- he didn't tell you where he was going?" A million questions came rushing at Cruz all at once but only one managed to slip out at a time like a clogged drain. Aadi seemed so calm, so unruffled by this -- and Cruz couldn't understand how.

"He was probably abducted by aliens," Aadhira said his voice quite serious. India felt about as close as Mars, anyway. And the actual distance was even larger. He wasn't sure why he was lying to Cruz, only that Cruz's slack jaw and general shock seemed only to further highlight how not normal everything was, and he'd been trying so hard to make everything be normal. He twirled the end of his braid in his fingers. "It's a bit far for telephone calls."

Cruz's jaw did not drop further, but rather retracted slightly. His eyes wandered down from Aadhira's bright ones, to the floor just below the frei's ribbon that reflected the blue light of his rune. It was the 'probably' in the peacock's explanation, coupled with his general ambivalent attitude about the situation, that assured Cruz, Justin had not been abducted by aliens. He wasn't bright enough to put the rest of the puzzle together with that hint alone but his mouth closed and nodded slightly without taking his eyes away from the floor. The way his brows curved, he looked mildly disturbed about the situation.
"Are you safe here?" Cruz asked with a lift of his head. He met Aadi's eyes again, his lips pressed with worry. "Tell me if you need anything... Okay? Like-- i-if you need a place to go, you can sleepover! Or -- or anything like that." The fact that Aadhira seemed so unfazed by the situation made it easy for Cruz to believe that what transpired wasn't sudden, perhaps it wasn't even something bad that happened to Justin -- he couldn't begin to guess! -- but Aadi was still a frei, fairly young as Cruz recalled, and he didn't want to leave another raevan, or anyone, out in the cold.

As if on cue, Aadhira's face dropped, just a bit. "C-can I? Just for one night... I, just... " He sighed and crossed his arms across his chest, looking a bit smaller than he had before. "It gets really lonely, Cruz. And you're, well, you and..." He trailed off, bright eyes trained on Cruz. He had Dr, Jannisari to return to, of course, but she wouldn't miss him for one night (especially as he planned on texting her). And Cruz was a nice, gentle guy from what he remembered. He wouldn't how far that went. "If I wouldn't impose on you and Anita..."
