Ever since that ... night Adalyn had been on edge. Before then she'd been so confident in the world, and her place in it. Then it happened. And oh, how it happened to hear. She could feel her eyes dragging down towards to her hip, and her leg. She was still marked from that night, and what had happened.
The lastest craze sweeping Below seemed to be battle magic, and she'd thrown herself into it whole heartedly, perhaps even to the point of neglecting her studies ... Now she was staring down a fiesty looking Grimm.
She began muttering the much practiced invocation of Thunderbolt under her breath and felt power course through her, if a bit haphazardly. The bolt struck a glancing blow to her opponent.

Avery wasn't too sure what to make of this brand new fad, but all of their friends had urged them to sign up for the practice tournament. And here they stood, across from a strange hybrid who seemed incredibly intense.
Before they could even get into a good stance, they were hit with the first spell. The bolt crackled across their fur, and Avery shook their head, trying to clear their mind. So ... this was how it was going to go. They began making the motions needed to cast Gaekinesis, but clearly the fog was still too great. A pillar of earth formed beneath them and them slammed them down under it's weight. Avery moaned as they pulled themselves out of the debris.

Yet another bolt crashed into Avery, and this one cause them to stumble. Before the Grimm even regained their feet, Avery began the motions for Gaekinesis. Surely, the third time was the charm!
A tiny pillar of sand whipped itself up off the ground and smashed into the hybrid. Avery nodded. It was a small victory, but a victory nonetheless.

Sand whipped and and smashed into her eyes and mouth, making her cough. The damage was minor, and more annoying than concerning, but it still made the hybrid grit her teeth. She had been dreaming about coming out of this unscathed!
The invocation for thunderbolt seemed to take on a life of it's own as she whispered it. She was pleased to witness her stronger bolt yet. She grinned. Yes, she could do this.

Adalyn's mouth dropped open as Avery was once again slammed to the ground by their own magic. Sometimes these things just all seemed to go the wrong way. Adee knew far to well about that.
She was hopeful that perhaps this one last thunderbolt would do it, and secure the match. She felt a deep connection as the final word of the invocation left her mouth, and was pleased with the resulting bolt.
It crashed down onto her opponent, down them and securing the match. She quickly jogged over to Avery, to assure they were alright.

A somewhat stunned Avery sat on the ground, watching while Adalyn rushed over to them. They were offered a hand up, and despite the ringing in their head, felt more or less okay. ... Except perhaps for the bruised ego.
