"Where were you?"
It was the first words out of her mouth. Followed by a scoff of indignation as the person on the other line came up with excuse after excuse. There was a moment where it looked like she might listen, but she'd heard it all before.
As young as she was, Dianthe's temper was short and explosive nowadays.
The person in the call was them abruptly hung up on as soon as she felt she had more than enough excuses spewed at her.
A reprieve from annoying phone calls was interrupted by a knock on her door.
Already she regretting coming back, even for a few days to catch up on her studies.
"...What...?"

When he heard that Dianthe was back in town, Shion barely kept himself from running off out of class right then and there. The rumor began with a whisper, though, that Dianthe's time away was going to be brief, and that was enough to convince him to skip out on his next class. He wasn't feeling like sitting through another Business lecture anyways.
All but skipping to where Dianthe's dorm was, Shion straightened his vest and ran a hand through his hair. she had said that she liked long hair, right?
She was...shorter than he remembered...
"D-Dia!" He exclaimed as soon as he was allowed to walk inside, smiling down at her. "It's...It's been a while. I'm glad you're okay..."

Well, at least one of them had gotten taller.
Wrinkling her nose at the prospect of needing to entertain him, her expression softened as she remembered that, yes, he was always the first one to say hello,
and the last one to say goodbye. It was really...well, for lack of a better word,
charming.
"C'mon in, stretch." Dianthe chuckled as she went back to her paperwork.
Well, owed work. Being gone as much as she was made the schoolwork pile up considerably, and she needed to get it done before leaving again.
"Did you get on steroids or something?" She questioned, referencing his before-her growth spurt.

Great....How was he going to explain that his father...his actual father...had given him the idea to take a potion? No, that could wait for now.
That's something he'd discuss with her once she was back...for good.
"Dia, I..." He sighed. He didn't know what else to do. the mountains of homework was an indicator of how long she'd been gone, and there was already a sign that she was going to leave again.
"I wish you'd stay." he admitted, sitting down on the couch...almost too big for it, now. "You could find your father when you're older, Dia. I mean...You're falling behind..." He had to try to convince her...

Her wings twitched at his words. Oh, how she wished they were big enough to just extend and smack him with.
No, she had to be calm. Shion had proved already to be loyal, and his family could prove to be an asset in the future. All of them, gifted with magic and a place she could run to if needed.
Honestly, if she were to be honest with herself, she would admit she was just using the poor boy for her own gain. Things were only complicated because he had a little kid crush on her.
"I wish my father didn't exist." she snarled, finishing up one paper and moving to the next. "Then maybe I'd stay. I'm fine with playing catch-up,
Shion. Don't make it more than it is."

A sigh escaped him, and he tore his gaze away from her to stare down at the floor. His wings, previously fluffed and flared in excitement, smoothed down and drooped at his sides. So many attempts to keep her here,
fallen flat by her sheer stubbornness. Though that was one of the traits he liked about her, it was getting exhausting.
"Listen, Dia..." He began, standing up to walk over to lean on her desk, "You know my family can take care of you for a bit. Not just...housing and food,
but Kei can train you. And Sei's not too shabby, either."
It was an offer that he figured would be too good to refuse...As well as adding "And, yanno, maybe we'd even have time to...go...out..."

Special attention was paid to his offer, enough for her to put down her pencil and turn to watch him as she listened. Dianthe was tempted, it was true. But as far as she knew, Kei's fighting style was something too similar to Diomed's. And she wanted to catch the b*****d off guard with something actually elegant as well as deadly.
All was well, and she was even prepared to accept his offer- for now-, when he decided to tack on that last bit. Shion had really gone there
And it was a sign that things were just going too far with the boy.
"...No." Dianthe stated flatly, turning back to her work.

Listening! Considering! Yes, yes! things were going so well, he could almost feel the yelp of joy about to escape him...
And then, she said no.
Once again, his emotive wings showed his disappointment quite clearly, and his face fell. Lower lip drawn into his mouth, he chewed for a solid minute, tearing the bits of skin off and bloddying his poor lip before deciding to speak again.
"Look, Di, I just want to keep you safe. I...I-I want you to get revenge, I do,
but you n-need to first and foremost keep yourself safe...And I just want to help you with that..."

Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale.
Turning around once again, Dianthe laid her pencil back down on the desk slowly and with what could be interpreted as finality. Her small wings flared,
and her slitted eyes glared daggers upon her fellow hybrid.
"No. No, Shion. I've told you so many times I feel like you don't even listen to me!" Oh she hated to raise her voice, and this was probably the first time she'd ever raised her voice to him. "I've chosen what I'm going to do, and honestly...You're starting to be one of those people that stands in my way!"
she snarled.
Slipping out of her chair, she brushed past him, making sure to ram her shoulder into his arm, and opened the door to her dorm, making a sweeping motion with her arm to indicate that he should leave.
"Do yourself a favor, Shion. And get...Get yourself a girlfriend. Or a boyfriend. Or maybe both. Just...Don't be in my way anymore."

All it took was the change of her voice to finally get it to sink in.
All it took was her even somewhat insinuating that she knew he had a thing for her for him to wish he had never been born. Anger, embarassment, sadness,
confusion...All the emotions he felt, plus the emotions that he felt for her,
converged into one singular ball of something that would explode.
Eventually.
For now, Shion simply took a deep breath, bowed his head, and walked out.
His wings drooped so low they dragged across the floor now. This was it.
Either he was going to have to come up with a better way to be around her...
Or never come back.
