Maritza was starving.

It wasn't as if she was lacking in warm souls that wanted to feed her. The trouble was that they also wanted to ask hundreds of questions; questions that she'd already answered over and over and over until her lips were blue. She'd escape for most of the day, which left the night open and free.

They couldn't find her now. Some of her crew members were growing concerned, but most knew Ritz was nocturnal anyway. She skulked around the rocky crags of Sauti, clinging to the ridges until she found a little pool, maybe a small lack, nestled in between the rocks.

She slipped down closer, watching as something moved underneath the water. Fish! It was swarming in fish!

Now..how was she supposed to catch one?

Since they were in Sauti for only a few more days Kyril found herself wandering the area. While she loved being with her family the girl simply needed some fresh air. Her mother was suddenly expecting again and there was just so much to think about! I mean I have Koril, but I didn't think about having more little korils in my life. The thought made her smile before she paused.

Was someone else out here? Tilting her head, Kyril glanced around the pool of water in search of the shadow that had just moved, "Hello?"

Maritza edged towards the water. Having slipped out of her boots, her bare toes slid against the slick dirt, sinking in a little once they hit moist muck. It felt awful, all that gunk between her toes but if she could just get close enough to the fish...

She paused, craning her head to look around. Her eyes barely could see the figure of another. It was too dark to make out any definitive details, other than it was female and could speak. There was faint moonlight, but not nearly enough to really outline anything.

"Shhhh, you'll scare them,"
she hissed.

As she peered into the shadows Kyril had to frown. Was someone truly out here in the middle of the night trying to fish? What in the world? Her brow furrowed before the reply silenced her own movements, "Okay then." She whispered back before hiking up her skirts so that she could slowly climb her way towards the water. Not that she was going to just step in it like the stranger, but she was curious about what the woman was doing out here.

"What are you doing?" She found herself asking ever so quietly as she stopped to perch on a rock for a better view of the stranger.

Good, it was finally quiet again. Maybe now Maritza could think and actually get back to work. She dipped a second foot in, waiting just a moment to adjust to the cool temperature before pausing once against with a irritated groan.

"What is it with you people and all these damn questions?" She couldn't even go on a midnight excursion without being found out. It was like they lived in the rocks and only popped out to bother her. Maritza tried to keep her voice down, in the beginning, but now there was really no point.

"I'm trying to fish. Unless you plan to help or have some kind of net you can just go away."

Kyril rose a brow at the sudden attitude, "I dunno, just curious about someone standing in muddy waters in the middle of the night like some strange creature." Funny how the other girl was asking a question about questions, but Kyril kept her mouth shut on that. Wouldn't be wise to start a fight in the middle of the night. She didn't know how dangerous the stranger was after all - it didn't help that she couldn't get a good view of her either to really tell what or who she was.

"Night fishing...without a net...just using your hands...okay." Kyril pursed her lips, "Let me think about this one. I only have a basket with me so unless you feel that you can scoop with amazing speed...hmm..." At this point there wasn't even any question about why this woman was doing this here out of all places. I suppose I've seen stranger things after all.

"Do your kind not fish at night? Seems like a waste if you ask me. Perfectly good time to get what you need." She moved further into the water, taking it nice and easy so as not to spook the prey. In the dark water they moved like spirits, coming close enough to inspect her but always staying just far enough away to run if she got close.

"Oh joyous, you're sarcastic." Her voice was droll and embittered; completely unhappy to have been disturbed and then bothered by this wretch of a girl. "Yes, well, I'm sure we had some sort of fishing supplies before we crashed, but now I'm making due with what I've got." Maritza crouched lower in the water, the edge of her shorts just now dipping into the cool liquid. She flexed her fingers, stretching them out in preparation for the attack. All she needed to do was focus...

"I suppose they do. I usually just get mine from the markets and those come in with the boats that go out with the nets into the sea." Replied Kyril as she scooted just a bit closer. Sitting on a rock behind the stranger she continued watching and could only shake her head as more attitude was flung her way.

Though admittedly she may have been just a bit sarcastic just now, "Honestly trying to think of how to help you. I'm no fisherman, but all I do have is a basket if you can think of a way to utilize it and if not then fine. I wish you the best of luck with the fish grabbing." A sincere enough statement though Kyril was sitting down now so that she could observe. If all else failed at least she would be around to help the other girl out should she slip and hurt herself.

Maritza's eyes skimmed over the water, targeting one fish as it swam in lazy circles in front of her. It was so close she could feel it, but she needed to wait until it got a little...tiny...bit closer.

"I'm going to try to catch a few, so have that basket ready. I'll throw them to you, if you think you can catch them." It was near her leg, swimming almost tantalizingly close. "Can you manage that?" She needed to know, and soon, because in just a moment it was going to get away...

Kyril was actually impressed with the other woman's confidence. She truly thought that she could catch the fish with her hands. The hybrid shrugged her shoulders. Perhaps it was just some skill that she wasn't accustomed with.

Still since she was here she may as well help out, right? So Kyril prepared the basket, "If you can toss them then I can definitely attempt to catch them." She replied with a firm nod, "Just let me know when they're coming this way."

[6/10]

It was simple trajectory, really. All she needed was to map out all the likely routes the fish was to take when swimming away from her, move in to counteract that, and trap it. Currently it's tail fin was near her leg, so when she struck she would need to move just slightly to the right to block it and then -

Maritza dove. She plunged her arms up to the pit in the cold water, grabbing at the fish with first one hand and then when it tried to slip away, wrapping her other around it as well. "Stop moving, dammit!" All at once she grasped the fish and hoisted it from the water, keenly aware that it might fall at any time, "CATCH!" Getting it in a better hold, she threw it in the other's general direction.

Surely this was just going to be some amusing failure. At least that was what Kyril had thought before she actually watched the other girl diving into the waters and pulling out a fish, "Oh!" Amazement crossed her features before she quickly moved to get the basket in place. Unlike having to hold onto the slippery fish having a basket made it simple enough though the fish did attempt to flop out and Kyril had to grit her teeth before placing a hand over it to keep it still, "How many of these are you going to get? This one is pretty big and fiesty!" She found herself calling out in excitement.

Maritza was beyond proud of herself. She was winded and soaked, which couldn't have been great in the chilly Sauti air. Still, her plan had worked and she'd only read about it in the travel scrolls. There was no doubt in her mind that if she'd tried it in the daylight this wouldn't have worked, but something about her nighttime adventures always gave Maritza that extra bit of luck to make it all work out.

"I don't know, do you want one? I can try catching some more, but it's just me I'm looking to feed so if that ones big enough I'll call it quits."

Kyril blinked at the sudden offer, "Me?" The hybrid paused before shaking her head, "I'm not hungry so I'll be okay. Might just make more sense to help you get to a fire before this wind chills you. You're brave for getting into the water like that."

She held out the basket towards the other girl, "Just uh make sure this fish is big enough for your appetite. I feel as if you should be the one to decide on when to stop since it's your stomach you need to fill up after all."

Maritza wiped locks of wet, sticky hair away from her face and smoothed it as far back on her head as possible. She moved back towards the shore, taking her time to make sure she didn't fall. Slipping was unavoidable, as she found out with a few unsavory curses, but at least she stayed upright. "No need," she waved off the offer. "I'll go back to my camp. I'm sure one of the others has kept up a fire."

It wasn't as if she was that far away from the others, so finding a warm spot to nestle in and cook her meal wouldn't be a problem. "Brave or stupid? Hunger makes that line fuzzy." She peeped inside of the basket, reaching out to run her hand along the fish when she couldn't see it clearly enough. "It's fine." Maritza reached to grab it's tail find and lift the fish into her arms.

"So, now that this is glaringly obvious, why is a teenager walking around Sauti on her own, in skirts, with a basket, in the middle of the night?"
