Tweedle-dee-- back with his brother, Tweedle-dum--

                                Damn, that's dark.

                                Get back, get back-- back--

                                Get back, get back-- back--

[ He can see the sun through the water, and then he can't.]

[ The water feels warm and then it feels cold and then it doesn't. ]

                                I never wanted you--

[ The sun is so warm here. It's so warm. Here. And then not. ]

                                [ Not. ]

                                [ Not. ]

                                [ He's not. ]

Go to the place where time became divided--

[ He remembers. Fingers curled in a shirt. ]

[ He remembers. Sand on his jeans. ]

[ He remembers. Pitching something out to sea. ]

[ Crunch of bone. Get off of him. But that isn't why.]

                                Get back-- Get back-- back--

                                [ Why.]

                                [ Why. ]

                                [ Why. ]

And weave the threads of time back together again.

[ Threads. Thread. The thread. ]

// He'd been stuck. Trapped. Watching. Begging, even. But Odin knows he ain't him. Not here. He can tell just as he lifts his left hand to see a blackish hues lurking on his fingers. It's spreading. He ain't the same. Not the same as when he asked Serenity for this. So when he moves forwards, lurking back to Julian he curls his hand in swiping it against Julian's neck. Slamming the mage from his sitting position and forcing Julian's back into the sand. And Odin holds Julian there. Sturdy. Heavy. But not violent. Not violent after Julian's positioned how he wants. At first he kneels over the mage, but then, slowly, his head drops until his forehead is pressed against the sand just beside Julian's shoulder.

"You shut the ******** up n' you listen."

// He spoke into the sand just besides the boy.

[ Sitting. He's sitting. In the sand. Not in the water. Not on the couch, with the
plate of spaghetti in front of him, some strange lightning bug telling him he has
to eat or die, when they both know that's what he's aiming for. Why he can't
leave. Why he was fished out of the sea looking like a corpse. ]

[ Then warmth of the sun is above him and he's on his back in the sand. Heavy
weight holding him down. Limbs still tingling like they're asleep, he doesn't thrash
like he wants to. Needs to. Not again. Not again. Not again. ]

[ His eyes are glazed. Film of grey over gold. He can't see more than just a
hazy neutral smear, and the weight on him, the sudden strike that drives him
to the sand, is terrifying. There's ink welling to his palms, and one comes up
like it means to push against the body above him, or force black ichor into the face of
the attacker that he can't even see. Probably Hale. Who knows. Maybe another
lackey. Somebody with a bite that blinds. ]

[ But it's not. It's Odin. He'd know the voice anywhere. And so he hesitates.
Tense. Waiting because there's no other option. He can't struggle free. Can't
see to get away even if he could. ]

[ And he knows. Knows who did this. Knows how he got here. ]

"So she's giving you presents now?

[ He isn't sure what this is. Why Odin is doing this. Why Odin does anything, ever. ]

[ He thought he knew, at one point. But that was just Julian fooling himself.
Making things up to keep himself from falling to pieces. Ignoring reality the
way the brain blanks out details to keep things from being to horrible. Too
                                painful. ]

[ Serenity did this. He knows she did. People think they know, but they don't
really get it. How cruel she is. How horrible. How she hobbles her creations
and expects them to keep walking anyway. This. Putting him here. Making
him hear it again. It's vicious. ]

                                I never wanted you.

[ He's tense in the cage of the blonde's body, forehead against Odin's shoulder
like it's too heavy for him to lift. He can't see anyway. No reason to look up.
And that's cruel too. Because here Odin goes spilling his guts, and Julian
can't even look at him. ]

[ The azurette is silent. For a long stretch, silent. Like he was for so long.
Just listening. Odin already said he lied. This could be another handful of
them. It probably is. Or maybe this is the thing his mind has manufactured in
its last seconds. Maybe his lungs are full of sea water, and he's still pathetic
enough to cling to something like this as everything shuts down. As he fades. ]

Love of mine. Someday you will die.

                                But I'll be close behind.

[ He's dead, or he's dying. That's what this is. That's all this is. And maybe
that gives him the permission to be pitiful. ]

[ So he shifts, just slightly. Arms curling, light, but reciprocal, around the larger
frame. Someone not there. Someone he's pretending. Like he always was.
That's all he's ever done, so why not now? Why not at the end? Why not tell
himself that he was something, that he did matter, that Odin gave a damn?
Some people believe in God. Think they're going to be enfolded in some kind
of soothing light. Julian is just sad and insignificant enough that he settles for
being maybe hugged. Told that, after everything, Odin doesn't want him to
suffer. Won't let him suffer alone. ]

                                [ It's a pretty lie. ]

                                "Just.. stay here. With me."

[ His voice is small. It doesn't bite. It isn't sharp. No, this isn't anger. It's a different
stage of loss. He's bargaining. ]

"I won't.. snipe at you, about before-- I won't hurt Hale-- I'll.. I can fix it.. I'll fix it.. So just.. Please."

                                  "Might not even remember this."
