Roland was still coming to grip with things that had happened in the other world. He had killed hunters in attacking one of their bases. (Possibly real ones; he wasn't sure.) And he was VERY positive he had killed himself as a horsemen at the end. The process to do so was sloppy, ugly, and left him vomiting in the dark and crying a little bit. So with this in mind he stood on the training grounds. Staring down the dummies gulping heavily. << You know it was us or him right? >> "Yeah." he said it out loud since no one was around at the time. "I just... his insides the blood..." he waved a hand before pressing it to his head with a sigh. "Okay. We have to get. Stronger. Right? Better at being a hunter." Sylvia appeared in his hand pointed towards the dummy. "We'll become a proper hunter!" He swallowed again the faint taste of breakfast on his lips before he ran at the target. He had no idea the target was in use by another hunter way off in the distance with a very big rifle. In his defense, said hunter was about as tall as him, so, practically invisible!

To be fair, Gale had seen a lot of things on the island thus far, and smaller, younger hunters had been one of them.
Smaller, younger hunters trying to attack him was an entirely different story, and smaller, younger hunters almost running straight into him with their weapons was yet another story - but really, Gale had had far too experience by now to even be surprised by it.
Except he'd already shot at the dummy, which meant that as the slight figure came pelting towards it, he may or may not have accidentally shot said hunter trainee in the process.
"Bloody hell - are you all right?"

Shields where great, they where life savers, no literally life saving. Case in point Roland was about to start swinging at the target when out of no where he heard a gun shot somewhere around the time after the round slammed into his shoulder sending him spinning and into the dirt. "WHATTHEHOLYSHITWHATWASTHAT!" < WE'VE BEEN SHOT > << I'M AWARE BUT WHERE!? >> He waved his weapon in the air, "I surrender!" He still hadn't seen Gale, it didn't help he was laying on his back staring at the sky.

Gale hastily made his way over to where the other was now laying prone on the ground, hollering in a way that reminded him suspiciously of another ragamuffin hunter who-should-remain-nameless. He dropped to the ground beside the boy, Gale laying the rifle down in the grass to reach out and touch his shoulder.
"Hey - sorry - I didn't see you there," he said. "You're fine, though; or you should be, rather, your shield will help. Here, sit up."
He tugged on the boy's arm a little.
"You're all right, don't worry."

Ro gave a small thumbs up dropping Sylvia beside him with a clatter that made him wince. Dropping her invoked a very huffy girlish HEY in his head, something about don't leave her in the dirt! The weapon vanished just as quickly as he sat up. "Y-yeah I'm fine but. That was. That was hard" He blinked, "And I'm not even bruised!?" He wiggled his arm free waving it up and down blinking, then he saw Gale's weapon and his eyes went huge. "You're weapon is that?" He was a bit slack jawed, "I didn't know they could be guns too, I've just seen hammers, scythes, daggers...." For what it was worth this all proved he was okay if not at least curious and talkative.

He was so young. Gale felt a pang somewhere in his chest, because he had been this young once. If he'd had to guess, the boy was around Gale's age when he'd first come to the island, maybe a little younger, it was difficult to tell.
"You're not," he said reassuringly, as Gale let go of his arm. "You have a FEAR shield; it prevents a lot of major injuries, but it doesn't mean that you're infallible.
"And yes," he added, with a glance at his weapon. "They can be guns. My weapon happens to be a sniper rifle. His name is Jinhai, by the way," Gale added, as Jinhai made an approving sound inside of his head. "And my name is Gale Gentry."
He got to his feet and held out his hand to help the other up.
"What's your name?"

Roland was one of the lucky ones too, he wasn't 14, but had ended up 16 at the end of the time warp. Slightly older then the other young hunters, but still too young to remember his time on the Island or be permitted full freedoms. "Yeah I know about the shields a little bit, but that was the first time I think I really noticed it? I kept asking Caroline what the threshold for the shields working was. Apparently bullets are a good start." He tried not to think about the other him he had fought and killed. He wasn't focused on the shield more so trying not to be cut in two by the very obvious threat during that fight. Brushing dust off his white coat he peeked past Gale again at Jinhai, "My weapon that I was waving around is Sylvia," he took the hand letting Gale hoist him up. "I'm Roland Taft," he added. For once it seemed like he was meeting someone who didn't remember him from before. It was actually kind of nice.

Gale only vaguely recognized the name of Caroline from around the island and occasionally on Twitter. "Shields work well for the beginning of fights, but they do weaken over time. It's important to not rely wholly and completely on them."
Gale reached for his weapon again once they were both vertical, propping the rifle up beside him; it came almost to his head. "Nice to meet you, Roland. What division are you in?"

Roland nodded, "Yeah, I think, I'd used it once before actually. During." He waved a hand at the island in general and some of the visible signs of construction and repair. "Whatever caused this." He shivered a bit, "I didn't realize it at the time though." Glancing up Roland noted they both had rather tall weapons, he grinned a bit, "It looks like we both have awfully tall partners, Sylvia comes up taller then me." He paused for a moment, glancing at his own jacket, "Well, technically I'm a Mist? But I was thinking of transferring over to Sun to work more with Peyton, she's my legal guardian at the moment," he shrugged, "I figured it would be a good way to learn to fight and survive?"

"Yes, this," said Gale, sounding dry humored as he glanced around the island as well. "This was an unexpected setback that none of us were expecting or care for, but unfortunately is a reality of being a hunter. The Horsemen, in my opinion, always pose a greater threat than the Halloween creatures."
He glanced at Roland's weapon, then gave a nod of understanding. "Not all weapons are large, sometimes they can be unwieldy in a variety of ways. I struggled with mine as a trainee because of the sheer size of it. Others I know have much smaller and more manageable weapons."
But he'd learned to deal with it. Gale gave another nod. "Sun is a good division if you want more front line experience. They're entirely focused on fighting and essentially being the first to go into the fray. If you'd rather not be a jack-of-the-trade with Mist, Sun is a good division for that, in spite of its...rather eccentric leader."
He wasn't even going to comment on the strangeness of a hunter who was likely around his own age being a legal guardian of anyone. Stranger things had happened.

Roland followed the grand gesture, spotting signs of rebuilding, damaged property and other things in between it all. "A far worse one then being turned into kids again for sure." he glanced back at Gale, "I haven't really met anyone from Halloween? I've only seen Horsemen and I guess the Legacy things Rep mentioned on twitter that made us kids. H even mentioned them to me. Though not by that name." He shifted collecting Sylvia and properly resting the scythe in his arms similar to Gale and Jinhai. The curved blade a few inches above his head. "Yeah, Peyton has little daggers, but Jordan has a hammer that makes our weapons look tiny almost." He shifted about moving the scythe to his other shoulder as Gale talked about the sun team more. "I attended a few of the team meetings. Allen seems." He paused, "Nice, but odd? But really, really, nice. Mist was kinda informal and laid back, and H was super business oriented and kinda intimidating." The last word was a good choice, H wasn't bad in his mind, but there was very much an ingrained desire to respect him right off the cuff if only because it seemed like something he had to do. "What Division are you?"

The island had seen better days, that was for sure. Gale knew of the whole being turned into kids thing, eternally grateful that neither he, nor Stormy had been subjected to it, considering they'd both been off island at the time (though Gale had come back to find it still in occurrence).
"Yes, a Legacy did that," he said, because Roland had only solidified Gale's suspicions that he'd been one of the ones whose clock had turned back. "Halloween creatures aren't terrible, though some can be vicious. At least with Halloween creatures they can be reasoned with - most of the time."
Though most of his contacts over the years had fallen through by now. Gale smiled a little.
"Jordan's a good bloke with a good weapon," he said. "He knows a lot, he's good to learn from as well. Allan's not terrible, he's just...loud."
Gale did not deal much with Dr. H and preferred to keep it that way. He had enough to deal with as it was with Caelius and Mark and unfortunately Oz - or any combination of these three. Add in Samuel, and Lucky, and the whole thing went up in smoke.
"Be fortunate you have either Lance or Allan," he said dryly. "I'm in Death Division, under Caelius. He's, er...strict."
The biggest understatement.

Roland nodded slowly, "I keep hearing about them, but I haven't read anything on them either. I think they limit what access i have to records. Annnnd some life guys try to make me pay money for info." He gave a shrug about the Halloween people, "I've only delt with Horsemen I guess considering the," he made an inarticulate gesture in the air, "World, we where in." More so he was the Horsemen, he hadn't seen any and a sudden memory flickered back, the beach, preparing for an attack. his face grew pale, the image of himself stomach cut open. He quickly covered his face with one hand and shook his head. "Y-yeah Jordan's been good. and Allan was nice like I mentioned. I um." He paused again covering his face before turning away from Gale retching slightly, but not managing to get sick. There was a mumbled apology.

Gale squinted at this.
"No one in Life should be making you pay for information," said Gale dryly. "In fact, everyone should at least be somewhat informed as to what's going on, rather than be left in the dark. Maybe Life should have a little reminder as to this."
He didn't know what was going on in Roland's mind, but he could guess. Gale reached out a hand and gave the boy's shoulder a squeeze of reassurance.
"It's all right. I get it. The Horsemen are bloody awful but we're leagues ahead of them now, we'll get them."

Roland would have agreed wit the statements Gale made, he already knew Joy was up in arms over it. Never mind what Caroline or Mimsy might say learning information was being withheld from some of the younger hunters. Instead he was doubled over a bit still trying to forget the less, pleasing memories of his time as a Horsemen. Blood, sand, the sound of him and Rep working to slaughter the hunters. "It.... I..." he coughed again, slowly standing up as his shoulder was squeezed, "I killed. Hunters. In that world. Rep and I. I called him. We went to the desert." He shivered violently. "At the end... I saw me, the horsemen. I cut him open and he." There was another heavy shiver and a muffled whimper of disgust and confusion. "I killed someone. Or something," he shook his head, "I killed me."
