YOU WAKE UP IN A DARK ROOM.

The damp, dusty smell around you signifies you're in some kind of basement. As you adjust to being awake, your eyes find just enough ambient light to make some sense of your surroundings. The northeastern corner of the room has a large, rusted boiler. Nearby is a card table with some rickety chairs around it, and the western wall has a couple of washing machines and a couple of dryers. The southern wall has stairs leading to a locked door, and the east wall has the source of the light: one of those tiny high windows with shadows of the rocks and grass outside against it.

It's also apparent you're in Other Ashdown, if you're familiar with the place: the air feels lighter somehow; you're less weighed down by the odd pressure of the other side.

For the time being, this is an open/freeform RP! BECOME ACQUAINTED, CHILDREN

For the first time, Erin could breath. She hadn't noticed it before, how heavy the air was with magic in Ashdown, nor the change from one side to the other. She'd never quite woken up in Other Ashdown after clearly been working on a motherboard repair either, so there was a first. She laid on the floor for a moment, simply breathing and letting her ribcage expand as it needed to.

She felt almost lightheaded.

The young woman sat up and looked around. A... laundry room? What the heck?

Why was it that Other Ashdown always wanted her in places but never told her why.

So frustrating!

Oh, right there were other people here. Huh.

"Uh... hi."

Lily was beginning to get desensitized to the matter of waking up in places she did not remember falling asleep in. She'd always assumed that would be standard protocol of the college experience, but in her mind she'd imagined it to be a bit more like waking up on someone's couch after a party wearing a shirt that wasn't hers. Coming to in Other Ashdown was a considerably less enjoyable experience, but not an unfamiliar one, and as she began to return to consciousness she rolled over to one side, content with the idea of napping it out until she was delivered back to the real world.

But something spoke, which meant that something was there. She cast a sleepy glance over her shoulder towards Erin as she rolled back around, slowly pushing herself up to seated with a stretch. "Yoooo," she yawned, wiping her eyes before she glanced around the room to get her bearings. For it feeling like the otherworld, the place they'd been teleported to was surprisingly mundane. Did othercreatures even have to do laundry?

With a soft huff, Lily pulled herself up to standing, dusting the dirt off of her arms and stretching them over her head. "So, you come here often?" she dryly asked to Erin, taking a moment to look her down and up. Once she made her internal judgement, she began looking up towards the window, taking stock of good places to climb should the need arise.

Theo sat on the ground near one of the room's darker corners, head bowed and hair falling over his face in a messy curtain. He reached to his right as he began to stir, eyes snapping open when he couldn't find the animal he expected.

This was not his apartment.

He rose with a grunt, glaring at the others in silent suspicion. His frown didn't last, not once he realized he smelled ever so faintly of skunk. With a roll of his eyes, half for himself and half for the ******** otherworld, he crossed to the washers and dryers, rooting around for something that might have had less of an odor. He was unsuccessful. He sighed.

Still refusing to speak, Theo thumped up the stairs and rattled the locked door.

The door continued to be locked. It had a weird keyhole, just a simple vertical slot without any ridges.

"Someone there?" asked a voice from the other side, a few seconds later.

"Unwillingly and more often than I like. This room? Not so much," she said to Lily, looking up at the young woman. Oh she was cute. She was very cute. Erin stared a bit too long, and joined the group with the standing thing. She glanced at Theo, who went straight to the door and said absolutely nothing to either of them. How rude.

Also there seemed to be one person still out. Heavy sleeper, huh?

Erin glanced at the door at the voice beyond it, head tilting to the side.

"Not alone. Dunno if that's a good sign..."

"I doubt it," Theo muttered, addressing Erin. Whether or not she heard was a mystery to him, one he didn't care to solve at the moment. Also not on his list? Replying to a voice that probably belonged to some cobbled together mutant of a sentient being. He backed away as silently as he could, rejoining the others in the basement proper.

"Does anyone want to give it an answer? In my experience, these things never go well." His very, very limited experience.

"Isn't that the best?" Lily asked Erin, her voice just a shade saccharine. "The otherworld has this great way of just...bringing people together." She watched as Theo got up and moved towards the door, unimpressed but not otherwise aggrieved. She didn't always have a witty phrase to go with every situation--she respected the strange scruffy man and his silence.

"Tell it we're not here, and to leave a message after the beep," Lily chimed in once he decided to grace them with the fluid stylings of his voice. She was already moving towards the washers, and with a single fluid motion pulled herself to sitting on top of one of the appliances, crossing her legs and reaching for her ankles. Sure, they might have been trapped in someone's hell-basement, but since they were in the otherworld, maybe that logic didn't apply here. Maybe it would turn out to be a neat and cozy clubhouse in the best plot twist of 2017.

"I'd give the area a good sniff but that looks like mildew, so I don't wanna." She pointed to a place where the wall might have been discolored, then rubbed her nose. "Anybody else got any top-tier ideas?"

There was a knock on the door.

"Hey. Whoever's in there. Are you in there on purpose?"

In addition, there was some fluttering and high-pitched crowing that occasionally came up close to the door. Almost definitely a bird.

"I don't think so! Pretty sure we just woke up in here on accident!" said Erin, a voice she thought would get through the door. Given she was relatively far back, that meant yelling. Loudly. It took her a few seconds to realize that whoops, inside voice Erin, but what's done was done.

She wandered up to the door with the rest of them, showing a glance to the still sleeping other person on the floor. They'd be fine, right? Yeah, surely.

"I do my best to not be places on purpose," Lily added from the peanut gallery, leaning back against the wall and stretching her legs out. She really wasn't a fan of mysterious voices from the other sides of locked doors, or locked doors in general, and wasn't so sure of their dire need to be out of the basement immediately, but as the majority of the group made its way towards the door she frowned, yawned, and then shifted, hopping to the four on her four fisher cat legs.

She chuffed softly as she nosed her way around Erin's legs and under Theo's, trying to get access to the door herself. She sniffed around the bottom of the door frame, then looked back up to the other two, not quite sure how to proceed.

Theo sighed again, barely audibly this time. To his credit, he didn't even jump when Lily noodled past, far more used to having furry creatures in his vicinity than he had been a year ago.

"Are you? Do you need help getting out?" Not that they could assist with that, considering they were probably trapped themselves. "Maybe we could find a key?" he said, shrugging a little as he glanced at the fisher girl.

"Well, they're not thralls, then," said the person behind the door -- their words were just barely audible, like they'd turned to talk to someone else. "Cook said they wouldn't be eager to leave."

Then, talking through the door more directly again, they continued, "Anyway, we're in Magicville. So you should be able to like... magic up a key, or magic the door unlocked, right? I'm not too great at it, but from what I understand you just have to imagine what you want with a lot of confidence."

Match or exceed this roll to succeed at unlocking the door! You can try again after two other people post if needed
(please wake up kim i'm getting worried about you)

Hylia that girl turned into a cat?! What the great Faron loving did that? The answer was magic, but to her mind at the moment this completely blew her mind. She heard of wargs and weres by name but never really seen once transform before, that was super freaking cool it was like Link turning into a wolf in Twilight Princess and ho man how did she get to do that!

The part about the thralls went over her head and she smiled down at the cat!Lily before wandering over to the door and looking at the latch curiously. Just... believe really hard and it would open? She'd never really tried doing that sort of magic in OAD before.

First time for everything.

Erin pressed her hand to the door. She thought about it as though she was pressing a switch; often times Link would simply hold his hand up to a door in Zelda games and by the power of the Triforce they'd open. Simply substitute magic for Triforce.

Magic collected in her palm, a tickle of air around her fingers. She twisted her hand slowly, as though she was turning a lock, and though very loudly about 'unlock'.

She could have sworn there was a clicking sound.

The door opened and behind it stood Julian, looking impressed and refreshingly human. "Looks like you were motivated," he observed. "Good job. If you mind sticking around a bit, we could use the help. There's... more people... trapped."

Melany and Hart were behind him in the bit of hallway leading to the entryway of the building.
