These activities start now, and will not change regularly. But new classes roll over the first of every month.

Pure Kirin and Grimm, and Grimm hybrids

Walking into the classroom, you're greeted by a very excited Grimm. "HEY! Alright, glad you could make it!" They exclaim. "So you're here to learn how to transform, right? Of course you are. Alright, let's get started! As you know, Transformation is a form of Divine magic, under the Aether branch. Come, sit with me. Make yourselves comfortable." There are no chairs in the room, and you have to sit on the floor. "Take a deep, cleansing breath. Aether magics harness the powers around you to affect living beings. In this instance, ourselves." You're instructed to take another deep breath as the instructor continues speaking, drawing you to focus on yourself, your body, your breathing, your own raw magic abilities. Focus is key, do not let your mind wander, or you will be unable to transform.

What to do:

Roll a 100 sided dice.
Kirin and pure Grimm must roll 60 or higher to successfully transform
Grimm that are a hybrid of at least 50% Grimm must roll 75 to be able to transform, but they cannot transform completely.

You may roll as often as you like until you succeed. You only need to post an RP response when you succeed, however, you can use your failed rolls to come up with ways they didn't manage to transform. How did they feel when they failed? Did they make a partial transformation? Did they almost transform, but then a fly landed on their ear and broke their concentration? Be creative and have fun.

Please post the following with your response:

Response: write a 500 word IC response about them trying to transform. Did they fail 100 times? Did they somehow manage to do it on their first try?

(Please be sure to fill in the month and year you are taking this class with the current month and year.)

Student name: Laurel
Prompt: Roll a 100 sided dice. Pure Grimm and Kirin need to roll 60 or better, hybrid Grimm who are at least half Grimm must roll 75 or better, and cannot fully transform.
Response: Laurel worked on her breathing, trying to get into a calmer state of mind. In for a count of four, hold for seven, exhale for eight. She kept repeating the pattern until she was managing to control her breathing without having the mentally count it out. Only then did she turn her thoughts towards her body, starting from the crown of her head and working her way down to her paws, just taking stock of how each part felt. She moved her attention to her ears, listening to the sounds around her, then turned her focus inward. The sounds of her heat beating and of the air moving in and out of her lungs as she breathed. Laurel tried to become aware of her entire body and the energy contained within, feeling it flow within her the same way her breath and blood flowed. It was a difficult process for her to reach this state since it required a lot of control, but regular practice with meditation had really helped. In a lot of areas, not just the moment she attempted her first full transformation, but she made sure to keep that thought from encroaching on her current mental state or she would open the door to a bunch of unrelated thoughts and having to work to regather her focus.

Laurel kept her focus solely on the energy she could feel running through her body, concentrating on it until she could feel it. Now the tricky part. Laurel had gotten this far once or twice in meditation, but feeling the energy and doing something with the energy were two different processes, at least for her. She held gently onto the feel of the magical energy moving through her body and called back the mental mapping she'd done of her physical body, trying to meld the two together. When she was reasonably sure she had managed it, Laurel moved on to the next step.

She was a very physical person, so she tried to call up physical sensations. Impressed upon her mind and the magic that held the shape of her body now to the shape she wanted her body to become. Running on two legs became running on four, feeling her limbs elongate and strengthen. The chest expanding and deepening and muscle was added, the body lengthening so that her stride became greater. Wind rushing against her face as the flat expanse grew longer and more pointed. Ears growing taller and teeth becoming sharp and pointed fangs.

Laurel held to this image in her mind, concentrating fiercely, so that at first she did not feel the mental changes turn to physical ones as the magical caught her intent and bent to her will. Even when she did begin to notice (she had to shift positions as her body changed its shape) she tried not to pay attention, but held fast to her mental image. Only when there was a sense of completion did Laurel carefully turn her mind away from her mental image and back to taking stock of her body.

The Warg bared her sharp fangs in a pleased canine smile. Hopefully with more practice the form would become easier to take, without needing so much mental work to achieve! The fact that she'd managed the transformation on her first real try though made Laurel so ecstatic she couldn't help letting out a pleased bark, though she quickly stifled herself so as not to disturb the concentration of the others in the class.

Student name: Abrus
Prompt: Roll a 100 sided dice. Pure Grimm and Kirin need to roll 60 or better, hybrid Grimm who are at least half Grimm must roll 75 or better, and cannot fully transform.
Response:

Abrus hunkered over in frustration as he was incapable of transforming. His cheeks turned bright, and his tail swished in anger. He would not give up, could not give up. He was a kirin, and he would become a transforming kirin, even if it killed him!

June 2016
Student name: Abrus
Prompt: Roll a 100 sided dice. Pure Grimm and Kirin need to roll 60 or better, hybrid Grimm who are at least half Grimm must roll 75 or better, and cannot fully transform.
Response:

Abrus came into the classroom with a confident grin. Well, he always had a confident grin, but he was extra confident as he entered the classroom, ready to take on the challenge of transformation. He was a Kirin, a pure kirin, so transformation was something he better have in his spellbook. Also, it would be pretty great for his performances to be able to change into a beautiful and elegant equine. Now all he had to do was get this spell down, and poof, he would be even more of a real kirin! The kirin swished his tail as he surveyed the room, snorting at the grim and even worse, the half breeds, who came in thinking they could actually transform themselves. Abrus chose a nice spot, mostly in the center of the room, so everyone could watch his amazing feat of turning into a majestic equine. The kirin closed his eyes, and focused. Emptying his mind of all the rubbish of the day was not an easy task. There was his annoyance at the dog, who barked too much, his love and constant crush on another purple kirin he had met, and his mild frustrations with having a blind child as his dependent. He loved Lika, sure, and he would make sure she was the best off that she could be, considering she was a daemon, and a mutated one at that, but he was willing to try. Nonetheless, it did weigh in on his conscious, having to care for a child like that, constantly. He had his performances on his mind, the things he wanted to incorporate into his acts, the things he needed to improve, the amazing tricks and stunts he would preform once he got this transformation thing down. It would be wonderful! He had this in the bag!

The kirin sat there, emptying his mind, until he felt that tell tale warmth of the magic inside him come to life. He let it encompass his entire body, enjoying the warmth and the fullness it instilled inside him. He loved magic, and was always happy to use it. Especially in his acts, but just around the house with basic chores too. It was just so satisfying to clean a counter with a good water spell, as apposed to having to do the manual labor of the work cleaning, or washing, or anything really. It was a freedom to have magic, and Abrus was taking that freedom by the reins and riding it off into the sunset. Soon, he would get to actually ride it off into the sunset, with mighty hooves, on not just two of his appendages. Abrus wanted to feel the power that would come with becoming an equine. He wanted the breeze in his hair, and the joy in his heart. Abrus took the warmth he felt, and let it spread all over his body, until every inch was warm and fuzzy. Then, with slow, careful work, he focused it into a shape. Into the mighty shape of a horse. The nightmare felt something, and his grin spread over his face. He felt confident, like he was the best. Wouldn't it shock everyone when he emerged a full horse in front of everyone?

Student name: Anukhet
Prompt: Roll a 100 sided dice. Pure Grimm and Kirin need to roll 60 or better, hybrid Grimm who are at least half Grimm must roll 75 or better, and cannot fully transform.
Response:
Anukhet hesitated in the entryway for the classroom before being ushered in by the overwhelmingly enthusiastic Grimm teacher. Seeing nothing to sit on, she did her best to get comfortable and listened intently to the instructions being rattled off. Half of the things she didn't even understand, but she did get the gist of what they were saying. Closing her eyes to tune out any distractions, she let herself fall into an almost in a meditative state. Soon the voice of the teacher faded away as she concentrated on herself, turning inwards to feel for that pull of energy that dwelt within her. Breathe in... breathe out... slowly... Let your body relax, and let everything else just fall away...

Feeling a slight tugging sensation, Anu soon felt her whole body tingle and she had no words to describe what else it felt like. Needless to say, it was a very... unsettling sensation. With practice, she was sure she'd get used to it. As she slowly rose to her paws, dazed and shaky, she shook herself out and blinked as it sank in that she had been completely successful. On her first try. No partial transformation at all. By the ancestors and the Nine... She stood there, stunned at her good fortune. Was she a natural with this, or was it just beginner's luck? Only time would tell, but at present she didn't wish to press her luck and try again. For now, she kept the transformation in place, getting used to her new form.

Looking around the classroom, she saw others having mixed results and tried to not draw attention to herself, nor make it appear she was staring at them. The last thing she wanted was to make it seem like she was showing off and mocking them for their failures. So instead she tried to pad around the room in her new form, learning how to maneuver in it. Anu was fumble-pawed at first but soon got the hang of it. She had the feeling the Grimm teacher was glowing with pride that one if their students had mastered the trick of it so quickly and was thankful they were keeping quiet. The others needed all the focus they could get to attain their other form. Transformation magic wasn't easy, and she didn't want to be the reason the others kept losing focus.

Wondering how long she could maintain her new form, Anu padded up to a familiar blue figure and sat down behind him, tongue lolling out and tail swishing behind her. Poor Su... maybe I shouldn't have suggested we try this together. Wondering if she was being the distraction causing him to fail, she twisted around to scratch behind an ear with her hind leg as she pondered how to encourage him. After all, he was probably the first true friend she had, or could even call a friend, and she didn't want to have this come between them. She'd feel terrible about it, especially since it was her idea in the first place. Maybe... Maybe we should've taken the class separately..? She wondered, resting her head on her paws.

June 2017
Student name: Suhail
Prompt: Roll a 100 sided dice. Pure Grimm and Kirin need to roll 60 or better, hybrid Grimm who are at least half Grimm must roll 75 or better, and cannot fully transform.
Response: Suhail had followed Anukhet to the transformation class. Not in a stalkery way, more like a "sure, I have nothing better to do, I'll tag along" way. He had never really prodded the ability very much; he didn't see a need for it. He wasn't much of a hunter. Maybe it'd get him out of a tight spot somewhere sometime, but he wasn't very athletic, and he assumed that he wouldn't be athletic in his Warg-like form either. Still, it was something to do.

He totally saw Anukhet nail the transformation in one go. He gave her a silent thumbs up, but he was having tons of trouble latching on to even a hint of magic. It just didn't seem to be there. At one point his stomach growled loudly, which befuddled him as he had made sure to have lunch before going to the class. There was no point in having a snack till he'd finished this task, though. Rewards were important. Wait, had he even decided on what he was going to have for dinner? Dinner was important too. He wanted fries tonight. Chicken nuggets, maybe? He had to find a burger joint that wasn't so horrifically greasy at some point. But dang, he wanted fries, fresh hot crispy salty- wait, where was he again? Welp.

Then he became itchy. He swore that every time he tried to focus on his body and the concept of shifting, a new itch popped up and he had to scratch it. Where is my self-control? Who am I kidding, I don't have any. He grumbled to himself, trying not to be too audibly frustrated for the sake of the other students. He sniffed, and for a moment he thought he smelled someone's lunch outside the room. What a sadist, making smelly food during a class that required concentration! Gritting his teeth, Suhail forced himself to focus for once. The rumbles in his belly felt like they resounded for a moment; he engaged in literal navel contemplation in an attempt to channel energy.

Then, suddenly, it happened. He felt a tingle in his body, and mentally grabbed onto it. It was like everything fell into place and made sense; he could feel the energy in his body shift and warp to accommodate the transformation. He looked at his "new" body, somewhat disappointed that he sported a bit of a saggy belly even in this form. Cautiously but with surprisingly good control, he padded over to Anukhet and raised his paw. It was kind of hard to gesture for a high five in this form, but it was better than nothing.

He was having a bit of trouble being on three legs though, and lowered his paw to right himself. He settled for gently batting at her leg and sitting down. I feel like everyone is staring at me because I'm the only fat Warg-thing in the room, he mused to himself. He briefly contemplated going on a diet after this class, though "briefly" meant "for all of fifteen seconds" before he decided it wasn't worth it.

It occurred to him that he had to reverse the transformation, too. Maybe that would be easier? He focused on where his paws were on the ground, where his jaws closed, how his tail hung, and then came the shift. It was a feeling like consolidating, and soon he was back to his usual self. He scratched his stomach and heaved a satisfied sigh.

August, 2017
Student name: Kitalpha
Prompt: Roll a 100 sided dice. Pure Grimm and Kirin need to roll 60 or better, hybrid Grimm who are at least half Grimm must roll 75 or better, and cannot fully transform.
Response: Kitalpha was not impressed with the teacher of this class but the thought of being able to transform had always drawn her in. She had never managed it on her own before, so the class seemed to be a necessary evil. Especially since she had to sit on the floor! Ugh. Did they not know original fashion when they saw it? Whatever. She just hoped the floor wasn't that dirty.

Right. Transformation. She had seen other Kirin do it, turn into beautiful horned Horses. Beauty was such a large part of her life, part of who she was. The fact that transforming on her own power had eluded her made the galactic Kirin irritable. But if she was to do this, she needed to push all of that out of her mind. Focus on the transformation itself.

She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths, trying to center herself and ignore the things that were aggravating. Like dust on the floor, which meant dust on her shorts. Like the overly happy teacher. Like having to sit on the floor to begin with. Ergh.

Focus, she reprimanded herself. Breathe. Concentrate. Shut everything else out. As she breathed in a slow, rhythmic pattern, Kitalpha focused on the core of her magic. She willed it to do what she wanted.

Well that didn't work. Maybe if she asked nicely....

Or maybe if she could actually just relax and concentrate! She told herself to quit with the stupid suggestions and to get on with it. See, this was why it had never worked for her before. Stop thinking that way, she grumbled internally.

With a quiet huff so as not to disturb her fellow classmates, Kitalpha decided instead to focus on her breathing. In... out... in... out...

She felt her body relax, muscle by muscle, as she breathed. Instead of commanding her magic to do what she wanted, she gave it an image of what she thought she would look like as a horned horse. The air in the classroom had sent a chill through her earlier but now she could feel her magic warming her up, filling her body piece by piece. From the tip of her horn, slipping like water down her throat to spread over her shoulders and into her fingers. Filling her lungs as she breathed in and spreading further down as she exhaled until the warmth tingled throughout her entire body.

When she opened her eyes, she was standing on hooves. Well, she was always standing on hooves but not she was standing on four of them! She was quite pleased with herself and trotted around in a circle with what she thought must have been a smug and proud look on an equine face. She wondered if there was a mirror nearby. She would love to see what she looked like as a horned horse. Upon glancing around, she was disappointed but not surprised that she didn't spy a mirror. She would just have to transform again once she got back to her dorm.
