One-two, one-two -- Anakeion's feet kept going on the rooftop, skidding across, cornering - she lept to the ground, wincing as she landed, because she'd still never figured out how to make that comfortable. She was no gymnast, not by a long shot; but she was more resilient than others might have been, especially with the actual, literal armor. It might have helped if it'd been more than bracers and her torso, but she wouldn't ask for more, mostly because it was a wonder she'd never gotten horrific road rash as a Page from all that exposed skin and slams into gravel.

Still. She had her stomach covered, she didn't have heels, she was...mostly content with it. More armor might have meant it would be too heavy -- and for someone who tended towards light-fitting clothing, easy breezy covergirl, the metal had been a learning process.

It was a bird -- youma came in all shapes and sizes, but it was too small for her to hit full-on, not until it was grounded - or. Something like a bird? It was bright, it was noon, and the sun was in Anakeion's ******** eyes and she was covered in what felt like a metric ton of sweat. She needed help, for once (or, like, for always?) - and who knew, maybe some rogue Senshi would happen by and decide that the chance of her breaking a window at the empty 7/11 wasn't worth it.

Daytime really felt more his element than well - okay, well it was Minchir's element, but still - nighttime patrol strolls ever had, but he couldn't help but feel a little exposed. Not that Cassian Norris had exactly thrown on his 'terrorist' garb (he was still upset about that label being a thing. Senshi were perfectly nice people half of the time...three fourths of the time...okay, they weren't the negaverse and that was what he was going for) to go on a more subtle lunchtime patrol.

He technically didn't have another class until 2. That meant that he had exactly.....

A quick glance at his phone said it was 12:25. Okay, an hour and a half. That meant he could turn down another street. He could feel it somewhere. An aura. It was always hard to follow after them, but it at least told him someone was nearby - someone who at least felt somewhat good. A new feeling from his experiences. Usually if he felt that, he was already looking at his limited circle of companions.

Cassian had never had to seek out the feeling before, and while he couldn't pinpoint an aura, he COULD follow the sound of the Youma down towards what had once been a 7-11. It still had a prominent 'FOR RENT' sign in the window (apparently they'd done worse once the gas station got pulled out) and there was a young woman outside of it swinging around a....

"That'd be it," he nodded to himself, giving only a slight cautionary glance around (nobody was really around, fortunately) before clicking the pen he'd been given as the weirdest souvenir when he'd only been visiting the city last time.

and yet, being and becoming Minchir had been one of the most natural things in his life. Even if the enormous bow he now sported (it was fetching okay?) was sort of ridiculous.

"I got it! Close your eyes and step back!" he'd barely given Anakeion a moment before he jumped into the fray as well, landing as close to the creature as possible and slapping his palms together. Certainly, if the squire had followed his instructions, it'd be fine as he made his domain of light.

If nothing else, he was good at being blinding.

Quote:
Minchir can create an area of bright sunlight, roughly 7 feet in diameter around a target. All who enter it will be treated to the blinding field of white. It lasts for 25 seconds. A lingering 'white spot' vision effect can linger for up to another 30 seconds for flavor-text purposes. Can use twice per battle.

<********> Anakeion screeched, in the telltale tone of someone who'd been too busy sizing up Minchir to actually pay any attention to his guiding words. "********, ow!" She dropped one hand from her staff to shield her eyes, grumbling as she took a step back, very unfortunately aware this was twice in the span of a few months she'd gotten blinded by a boy in bows.

Maybe it'd be nice to have Senshi magic. But, then again, if she did she'd probably have to lose the armor and she'd need a dumb transformation sequence instead of just feeling the uniform settle into place, knowing the symbol of Castor was emblazoned all over her to declare her allegiance -- it was comfortable, it was safe. And there was something always-thrilling about throwing her weight around with a heavy object, more thrilling than her fists.

"Ground it," she called through gritted teeth, "I can smash its' damn head in if you can keep it grounded!" The youma made a horrible gurgling noise that was decidedly unbirdly, pulling back with a useless flail of legs, attempting to dive for Minchir's ears.

Throwing around a fist was much more fun than a weapon, as far as Minchir was concerned....but when it came to bludgeoning someone's skull across the pavement for the sake of safety of others, a weapon felt a little nicer. But for a youma, his hands would do.

"Got it!" he confirmed, leaning back as the creature dived for his head and reaching out to grab for - well, he was aiming for anything he could get his hands on, hoping for a single solid grab as it flittered about his head. Minchir wasn't sure what he had a grip on - a wing or a leg or something else maybe - when he crouched to slam the creature into the ground.

Hopefully long enough for what this armor-lady (her uniform didn't say Senshi and her Aura didn't say Chaos....what?) to smash like she was saying she would.

Or she'd miss and completely knock him out. But that was a bridge for later.

"STILL CAN'T ********' SEE," Anakeion hollered back; despite her words, she was laughing. It was fun, after all, if you discounted the imminent threat of property damage and bodily harm from ******** extraordinaire. Throwing her weight around like brute force would solve every problem -- and in this one, it would -- she picked her staff up with her free hand again and let the ice crackle across her fingers, hands, wrists, freezing her perfectly to the weapon.

Minchir wasn't quite close enough to hear her whisper "ice ice baby". There was no proof. Nobody would ever know.

She could hear the youma squawking and screeching when Minchir's hand grabbed it, moreso when it hit the ground; and she crouched and slammed the staff down - the youma barely made noise. There was no time for it to realize it was in pain. One second, it was there, and the next Anakeion's staff was sitting in a pile of dust - and the ice crackled away from her hands, quiet, and she only half-clipped Minchir as she pulled it back. (It'd still bruise. If her magic had been active, if she'd been channeling, she might have seriously hurt him. That was the tradeoff for bashy magic.)

"s**t, sorry -- you okay?"

"IF IT HELPS, I KINDA CAN'T EITHER."

The downside to blindy magic: Minchir still had to use his eyeballs to see. Certainly he had practice with his own magic and learning to close his eyes and navigate fist-first, but he still was going to be seeing spots for a while.

He definitely didn't hear the 'ice ice baby' whisper, too busy holding down a flailing bird youma until it dusted with the firm 'whump' of the weapon the woman had been holding. At about the same time the same weapon clipped him, the magic field of blinding light dropped and Minchir briefly recoiled to touch his chin and nose. His nose was only slightly bleeding.

"Well, I'm not dead and nothing is broken. Didn't hit me on the way down, so I think we're OK." he stated as he stood up, brushing Youma-dust off of his shorts and offering Anakeion a smile and a hand up. "Can't say I've seen a uh.." he frowned, "I'm not actually sure how to put this. I'm used to only feeling Order-Aura..Or-ra?" too bad that pun made less sense out loud than it did in his head, ahahahaaha, "from Senshi."

AKA

'What on Earth are you?'

"I'm Minchir, by the way."

Anakeion huffed and slung her staff over one shoulder -- it caught the sunlight in pleasing ways, easy enough; clouded glass, probably, and apparently thick. "Still, though. I guess as long as nothin's broken we're both good, but -- " she shrugged. "I try not to make a habit of, y'know, breaking other people's faces mid-youma smash." She extended one hand to Minchir, smiling. "Anakeion Squire of Castor. You new to this?"

He smeared the blood from his nose off onto one hand with a light shrug. At least he didn’t seem bothered by the fact he still had a slightly messed up face. All of his teeth were in his head and he’d come up with a convenient enough excuse for what had happened by the time he got home. Maybe he’d purposely walk into something before his next class to add to it.

Or he’d admit he got in a fight and make his mom angrier with him…..no, he’d figure it out. Maintaining a civilian identity was hard. Sigh.

“Well, no harm no foul. I’ve had worse than a small clip like that. I’m just glad you hit the Youma, not me for sure.” he nodded, folding his arms and relaxing into his stance a little. His arms had barely been folded before Anakeion offered her hand in a shake, and Minchir took it firmly.

“A squire? I’m not new, I mean...I’m new to Destiny City, but I’m not new entirely. Used to a smaller working group. Usually uh….more dangerous groundings. I’m pretty used to just Senshi and well….Chaos.” he admitted with a shrug.

"I actually didn't know this went on outsid've DC," Anakeion frowned, contemplative. "My whole 'initiation' or whatever was a chick in a tux and a guy with wings showing up to kick a weird horse's a**, turning into a Grecian stripper, finding out the guy was my Prince or whatever. But that's not important, anyways -- do you not have Knights outside?" There was genuine incredulity in her tone. "Like -- I'm not gonna say we're as common as Senshi, since Senshi can be tiny baby children, but come on. Page, Squire, Knight? Classical medieval role progression, blah blah blah."

She looked pleased enough at the firmness of his group. "How long've you been doing this, how old are you? I've had to b***h at enough baby Senshi to never patrol alone if they don't want to get horribly murdered, so please tell me you weren't patrollin' alone."

"It...goes a lot worse outside of here..." Minchir said with a frown. "I was part of a group of 5 in Greece and well..." he sighed, "we were the smaller side of the conflict." Minchir tried to not let the worry bubble in his chest. "The Negaverse has most of my home."

No Knights, only the Negaverse.

"Hell, we don't really have much in the way of cats either..." he trailed off with a sigh. Even if there were still bits of light out there, there was no way to awaken them. "I only happened to be awoken because I was here in DC with my mother for a conference she was speaking for. She decided 4 months later to move us here, so...about that long. Only landed here for full time in the last few weeks, though."

He shrugged, "I wasn't actually patrolling, to be fair. Your aura tugged a bit and I came to investigate. It's a little..uhh.." he motioned to the fact the sun was out, "early in the day for that usually." Usually it was being grouped up in the dark and turning people into an oil smear. It was really hard to forget how it felt to snap a neck.

"Eugh." Anakeion grimaced. "Given the murder rates here, sometimes it feels like it could only be better outside. Or with, like...less teenagers on a Chaos high looking to get their murder fix. More 1984 dystopia, less the Purge." That brought a frown to her face, with persistence this time. "You ever run into Corrupt Senshi? Pieces of work, those guys. Guess that's what happens when you give a baby a gun. It's easier to go youma-hunting at this time of day; y'get a great view from the rooftops, and Negas are a hell of a lot less likely to run up to you and murder you in broad daylight."

demon_pachabel

"Most Senshi woke up into the corruption, unfortunately," they were definitely not fun, he agreed. "There is less death where I'm from because they don't shoot to kill. They shoot to corrupt when it hasn't already been claimed by them." he wasn't about to share that there was still death and he and his own were behind it.

"Can't say I've read 1984. Is it good?" it was such a random and genuinely interested aside that it was probably jarring before Minchir just smiled. "Well, I guess that's a great way to go about it if your targets are Youma." which to be fair, he probably would be well off spending more time with. Which on the note of time...."s**t, what time is it?"

He took a quick glance around to see if anybody suspicious was around. Once he was certain that nobody who was going to hunt down his family and stab them in the next was watching, he de-powered. Apparently the idea of a near stranger seeing him for who he was...didn't worry him as he checked his watch. "Oh, I guess I do still have time before class."

"Tellin' you," Anakeion sighed, "kids with guns. This kid that couldn't have been more than sixteen shoved her hand in my chest n' tried to strangle me, looked like she hadn't slept in a week; they may be more organized than we are but they sure as hell haven't got a Mental Health department." She blew a pointed raspberry to emphasize her point.

"1984's alright? 's where the whole Big Brother thing comes from. I prefer shitty self-indulgent fantasy, myself. Half the time Negas patrol in packs, anyways; if you find a Lieutenant alone they're either new or they've got papa wolf waiting around the corner for a decapitation." One more lingering shrug. "Sometimes they'll agree to drain me and leave; rather be drained than dead or maimed, after all. Won't be any use like that."

When Minchir disappeared to leave behind Cassian, Anakeion disappeared to leave behind Amaris, grinning. "Amaris. Your name? Nice to meetcha, officially, I guess."

And then there they were, two normal citizens standing on the sidewalk, innocent as could be. No strange fuku-wearing-weapon-toting weirdos here! Nope!

"Sorry about that, I just have to be to class in about 40 minutes so I was checking to make sure I hadn't spent enough time punching birds that I missed the beginning of my lesson," not that he was particularly interested in any of the prep stuff. He could have always been a better student, after all.

He grinned at the woman standing opposite him now - in much less armor, but funny enough, now that he saw her face as it was, he definitely could see the similarity. It was funny how that worked. If he'd seen her anywhere else in any other context, it wouldn't have connected at all. Deacon used to say the same of him and Minchir as well, though.

"Cassian. It's nice to meet you too, Amaris," he offered a hand to shake.

Amaris laughed nervously, in the way people did when reminded of responsibilities they were absolutely shirking, and immediately resolved not to ask any further about Cassian's classes. Hoo boy, she'd almost forgotten people went to college. (High school? He looked young, but like, almost everyone did in fuku. It had something to do with the bows, probably.)

Her handshake was strong, relatively so, if a little sweaty. "If you think you've got time, I can treat you to McDonalds for saving me 30 minutes of bird punching?"
