Keeping shop felt increasingly disjointed as the war threatened to take over his life. Isaiah found that, while his employees mostly accepted the cover story for how he lost an arm, they no longer responded to him with the same joking ease that they used previously. Between each of his employees, save for maybe Vargas, he felt a low key tension hovering between him and them - a distance, no longer bridgeable with his stellar personality and charmingly bad sense of humor. Even Melissa, for all her lack of interpersonal awareness, kept a modicum of distance from him.

And yet he could say nothing about it, for the shop operated better than ever - despite all the days taken off.

The pop culture and musical interest section of the store slowly subsumed the other sections as a mark of Vargas' increasing dominance over store operation. Isaiah chose recently to take a backseat to conducting the store layout business, and he paid for such a move in losing one of his many jewelry displays to an art nouveau tree loaded with guitar picks and coiled strings. The abomination itself was on sale, Ice noted, as were the several multicolored picks sticking out like stiff leaves on the breeze. An entire wall now stood claimed by Vargas' collection of electric and acoustic guitars, with the new appearance of other, more traditional instruments. Even a keyboard sat at the back, propped up on its own stand. And for all of Isaiah's internal complaints about the matter, he couldn't fault Vargas for the choice - their recent sales pointed in the direction of pop culture and music, rather than Isaiah's sprawling collection of jewelry.

The other walls still sported their usuals - guns to the right of the entrance, TVs opposite the entrance, and random collections throughout the store of loosely-grouped paraphernalia from their years of trade. While his layouts and management remained mostly untouched, Pawnography no longer felt quite like his store anymore.

But Ice endured it nonetheless. Today, Vargas wanted a sale on some of his guitar items - he kept one too many amps on hand, and the damnable things ate up much of the floor space, as did the guitars with wall space. 'Free bundles of replacement strings with each guitar purchase' became a mainstay sign. Picks collected into baskets were set out on nearly every speaker set. Trem arms, amp cords, and pickguards were each collected into their little areas, and Vargas stood at the center of the buzz.

Huh, Ice scoffed to himself. You're not the only one who can sell a guitar. Vargas made himself at home in the center of the pop culture area and sold admirably, but what Isaiah lacked in guitar knowledge, he made up for in charisma.

It had been a long time since Jason had treated himself to anything nice. The nightlife he had been experiencing lately was definitely taking a toll on him both physically and mentally. He needed to do something for himself for just one day. So, as he wandered around the town for a bit he spotted the flyer for Pawnography's guitar sale. He really could use a new amp and it wouldn't hurt to have a look around for anything else they might have as well. He'd have a lot more time to work on his music with the summer right around the corner. He wouldn't have to worry about classes during the day. Alright, looks like he had a plan.

He didn't know what he had been expecting, but the store was certainly packed. They had an abundance of guitar items, it seemed like half the store had been taken up with musical instruments and pop culture. Though, there was still the usual pawnstore items as well. They didn't seem to be what many of the customers were interested in though.

He had his own guitar strapped to his back as he tried to wander around and avoid bumping into anyone with it. He was mostly interested in the amps, but he had to admit the keyboard in the back also caught his attention. The first instrument he had learned as the piano. As he grew older though, he became more interested in new music trends. He didn't care much to continue with the piano. But a keyboard could be fun, it would be something knew to pick up as well. Regardless though, he definitely needed a new amp. He set himself up in front of the amps for now, they had so many to choose from. He didn't need anything huge. Just something decent with some good sound quality.

Of all the customer types that strolled through the door, Isaiah enjoyed the obvious finds the most - the ones who had their interests written all over their bodies, in their gaze, in their purposeful paths toward the merchandise in question. Sure, some of them turned out to be red herrings, but largely they were straightforward sales with a mutual benefit. They got what they wanted, and Isaiah got money. Simple, easy, relaxing.

He spotted one such individual loping through his door, with a guitar strapped to his back as the neon sign for his interests. Isaiah wasted little time on the intercept, even if he came across as using used-car-salesman vulture tactics. Vargus saw him too, Isaiah knew, though his manager-c**-rival looked thoroughly entrenched in a discussion with a music aficionado. Isaiah considered it his open invitation to engage the customer. In little more than a handful of steps, he'd be halfway toward making a sale.

He rounded the counter easily, crossing a number of short aisles to catch up with the customer. The boy looked young, certainly - right in his ideal age group. Tousled blonde hair, a confident stride, an athletic build… Isaiah imagined he was one of those uniquely outgoing and positive individuals. The ones that could find good in all the suffering, and probably provide a great lay in the process. Yes, one of those bedpost notches he could feel good about afterward. Ones that didn't tempt him with a few lines in the process. Or he could just be a customer looking for a few new guitar strings, but where was the fun in that conclusion? Clearly he was in a lewdly-named pawn shop looking for a lay alongside a purchase.

Not that Isaiah was projecting or anything.

So he caught up in due time and broached the boy with a straightforward, if laissez-faire opening. "Is there something I can help you find?" His gaze met the case on his back. "Something for your honey, there?"
