Since the s**t hit the fan, Al had been trying to keep a closer eye on Melvin. He wasn't about to put himself in a position of losing one of the few friends he'd managed to make, let alone one in that way.
He'd been texting Melvin back and forth and arranged to meet up with him again. It seemed like he had news and Al was a little more than just curious.

The text was simple. Meet him at the shore with a set of coordinates and instructions that, if he wanted, to bring swim trunks.
When Al met up to the location, it would lead him through a set of jutting rocks that opened up to a sheltered cove. Typically the water was too shallow and didn't get deeper till the late evening which was more dangerous to swim, but i seemed something had dragged across the cove to made it deeper than normal. He made sure to scope the place out first, but after his dive, he had taken off his diving suit and rested it by the large stones of the entrance and was now swimming in the water.
When he caught sight of Al, he called out. "Over here." He said. Bobbing the water was Melvin, shoulder up in the water as he kept afloat.

Al did come in swim trunks as instructed, but unlike Melvin, he had to strip down to his. He removed most of his clothes and left them in a pile behind a large protective rock and approached the water in nothing but a pair of black swimming shorts covered in little red t-rexes.
He squatted while eyeing the water uncertainly. "I guess you were serious about the swimming?"

He moved in effortless strokes and eased up to the shore before he felt the sand, pushing up and starting to walk up as the water fell away. Aside from most hunters, he had relatively few scars. Saliva had been rather protective of him and thanks to her vanity of looks, he was often healed before anything major could be done. There was one long cut across his abdomen and a few nicks here and there, including one cut each on his wrists. Aside from these were the blue rabbit tattoo on his upper left arm, the swirling pink scars on his neck, and a bright white scar that was now etched about it to form a wing. It was also clear that Melvin swam often.
"Why wouldn't I be serious. I was on a dive, but the weather is really good and the tide is in. If you don't want to, we can just sit on the shore. I just think better when I'm in the water sometimes."

Al did look, there was no harm in looking, right? He was curious very normal amounts, he was sure, and mentally noted all of the scars and tattoos. In just his own swim trunks, it became clear he had no scars, his tattoo - his only mark - was even mostly concealed. A slight etch of green on his belly peeking up above the waist of his trunks was the only indication it even existed.
Al shrugged at Melvin, not planning to argue at all.
"Does that mean you have something you're thinking about, then?" He pried.

"Hmm? Just a general evaluation of what options are open to me and what course of action to take that would best benefit my situation without being reckless. I have plenty of obstacles without the best idea of how to remedy the problems. So I've been brainstorming."
He shook his head, trying to get the water out of his ear. "How are you and Noah by the way? Busy?"

"Your DVDs have been very informative," he answered without the specifics.
"Speaking of your situation," Al tested the waters with a toe both figuratively and literally. "What's that looking like lately?" He submerged a foot in the water. It was warm, yet cooling and refreshing. Inviting. "You know, the last time I swam it was before coming to the island, I think."
His trunks certainly looked brand new. There was even still a notable crease in the legs.

"Informative good or informative very confusing and not at all helping you two?" He said, not one for vague answers. If anything, he was the post-child of specific, detailed answers.
"It's......a thing. Lawr and I have established a relationship that benefits us both. He continues his delusional desires at a retry at marriage with Rodney and I keep my footing in my own home and with Lawr as company." He moved into the water as he spoke, the water retaking him as he stepped further and further in. "I will miss parts of what we had though. Being single is rough."
Speaking of things that could make someone single. "Why the t-rexes?"

"I don't think I should answer that without my Noah present," he teased with regard to the 'informative' comment.
He nodded though as Melvin filled him in with his thing instead. At least Melvin sounded more... stable... now. That was all Al was really hoping for. He waded into the water past his knees, the water trapping air in his shorts so they bulged out.
He looked down at said t-rexes and shrugged. "They didn't have dragons." As if that explained everything. To someone like Melvin, It most likely didn't.
"So you two like side dating then?"

"Wow. So you two can come for porn but you can't just say anything more without Noah around. Well then, did YOU find anything about yourself you found informative?"
"And why did you want dragons?" How was there even adult swim rucks for men that had t-rexes on them in the first place? Unlike Al, Melvin had a pair of jammers on instead but swam way more frequently.
"No. While I can do whatever the hell I want, Lawr is back to locked-in marriage. No more testing out the waters elsewhere for him, which I have to wonder how long he will last before he starts feeling an itch."
The water became deep enough for him to start wading out into the water. Being secluded and in the cove allowed for him to be easily heard and to hear Al without any trouble.
"And I can't exactly date much with the condition I still have and the history on the island. One of the reasons I've been brainstorming. It's a problem to say the least."

"Yes, we TWO do. But if you insist, I learned that threesomes are more complicated than they look."
"Because dragons are ******** bad a**." He looked down at his own trunks again, pretty baffled by Melvin's critique of them. "What is with you and everything I wear man? First my scarf and now my swim suit."
"For the record; I am not letting you try these on." "No matter how drunk you are."
When Al got about hip deep he just slowly crouched down in the water until he was shoulder deep and kept his legs bent to maintain the depth.
"s**t. With the turnover on this island, all you have to do is wait for a new batch of trainees." "Make friends first, eventually you'll find someone who likes you enough they don't care." He jerked his shoulders up. "I mean, Lawr eventually found you and you didn't care."

"I don't want to wear your clothes." Melvin said with a scrunched up nose. "I was drunk last time and in a mood."
"I'm asking cause I was wondering if you like dinosaurs or something. You ask when you're curious about something." He stared at him a moment. "I'm making conversation." Did he have to be clear on that.
The moment Lawr was mentioned, Melvin gritted his teeth. "Laer didn't find me like that! He lied to me about my dead girlfriend when I was confused and suicidal."
Saying it froze him. To hear it out loud from him. He looked away.
"Fresh batches get gossip educated fast here and even if they did like me, Twitter would swoop in like a Hawk of sexual death." He frowned at his own bad metaphor.
He was somber for a moment. "I would hurt someone even if they just wanted to be close or mess around. If they eventually left, they couldn't be with anyone else. It's like I would be cursing them for life."
"I don't know what place I'm in anymore. I don't think I could be with anyone seriously now."

Al shrugged. "If they liked you for you they wouldn't give a ******** about Twitter. Not everyone's ******** obsessed with it, yanno." Just your boyfriend is, Al added mentally. "Besides, most of the island is infertile anyway, I am, big ******** woop."
Al wasn't at all surprised about the suicidal comment, Melvin always seemed to teeter on the edge of instability. Furthermore, he suspected that much on a more recent basis to begin with.
He floated over to Melvin while walking along the bottom with his knees until they didn't reach.
"Look, it all seems overwhelming I'm sure. Just take it a day at a time?"

He was quiet now, a bit more unsure.
Instead, he swam a bit in the water, making a small circle in the center. "But if I do it to too many people, then I'll get in some trouble. And if those people continue on, they get in trouble. I just.....am apprehensive to put people through anything when they might not be prepared for it. When they might turn around and blame me for it even if they wanted it in the moment. To resent me for it."
"I just.....haven't even pursued dating in such a long time. I didn't even ask Rin out. She was the one that insisted on it."

"If they were okay with it in the moment, they were okay with it in the moment. That's not your fault." He shrugged again. "Does all contact cause it to spread?"
