Oh, some cute little family was walking down the street, doing whatever cute normal families did. Really, it was stupid that something as simple as cars was keeping her away from the road, pondering instead her next option.

A mom, a dad, and two sons. The older of the two boys looked up towards the rooftops, squinting as though he knew she was there. Tantalite, almost nervously, took a step back. Aura's were tangible, but was hers more noticeable? The chaos in it a taste in one's mouth? There were small feelings of something or other down in the street. Was there someone out there who would stop whatever fun she was out to have that night?

That little brother - the little blonde - still had an appealing youth to him that she...was drawn to. Perhaps she'd get into a little mischief.

Perhaps she'd drain a little energy.

One of the things he disliked most about being Midgard verses Tristan was that it was difficult to blend in properly. Unless there was some sort of comic or anime convention, he was hard pressed to explain his robes. Plus, walking with the hood up immediately made him shady and suspicious and it wasn't doing him any favors.

Of course, Captain Aluminite hadn't blended in any better. At least, not outside of the darkness of his cloak that allowed him to hide in the shadows a little better.

He had been minding his own business when he felt the edges of a chaotic aura begin to overlap his own. With a hiss, he headed towards it automatically, because what if there was trouble.

It took him longer than he'd like, the sight of a civilian looking up curiously to the skyline giving him the idea to take to the roof. When he saw the woman he sighed, gloved fingers curling into fists.

"You shouldn't be here." He said, as he climbed up the last ladder rung and stepped onto the roof.

A familiar voice.

Tantalite turned to look towards the would-be-Knight, brows raising slightly as she gave him a long, uncomfortable look. It was indeed a certain dark-talking white-wearing gentleman. Had she missed him? Maybe a little. Not everybody was so exciting.

"And where should I be, if not nice and far away from people? Down on the street with them?" it was an idle suggestion, one she wouldn't take because, as much as she wouldn't admit it, she didn't like evening traffic. Too many cars, all the worst accidents happened after dark. Lord help her the day someone figured out her thing with cars.

Never again.

"Or were you looking for an excuse to talk to little ol' me?"

He recognized her, it was hard to forget people when he interacted with so few these days. He had no inkling of her name and therefore she was simply the pale haired, bow wielding woman who seemed inclined to...flirt with him. At least, he thought there were hints of flirting that he didn't reciprocate.

There would be no more romancing the negaverse. (He was gonna stay faaaaar away from that s**t.)

"You're scouting for a target." He stated instead of answering her question, green eyes narrowing in her direction before flicking over to the passing family below. There would be no reason for her to be out and about, powered, if she wasn't looking to drain or kill.

"Not really interested in talking to someone who sees no problem with hurting innocents."

Innocents.” the word coated the inside of her mouth like a bitter tasting mouthwash. Not quite spat out, but uncomfortable where it was. “Where do you draw the line for innocent? Is it anybody not me? If I was stalking a criminal, or someone who touched children would you be making such a huff on their behalf?”

It wasn't true, but the point stood. It wasn't as though she was planning to kill anybody. Maybe drain a little energy off the top (nobody needed that much of it), but not straight up hurt them.

“Or does it not matter because to you all I can do is wrong .”

She knew he'd justify around her words somehow - perhaps lump her in as something just as bad. There would be a fight and while it was no good for it, the essence of the violin bow remained almost at her fingertips. Not quite summoned, but ready to be pulled into existence.

Midgard's teeth grit together.

"It's not your decision to make." It wasn't his either, which was exactly why he stood across from her. "You don't get to decide who lives or who dies." Sure, the justice system was corrupt in itself, but that didn't mean that they should have been the ones making the decisions. He was surprised by how strong and steady his voice was.

Before he purified, Midgard had never had strong conviction but now...

"It has nothing to do with you, but what you choose to do." Okay, so it sorta had to do with her but not in the way she was thinking. "It's not just you." He knew what it was like to be in the Negaverse and how tempting it sounded at first, before reality set in and settled in his bones. "We make our choices and you choose to take and steal what's not yours. Doesn't that make you just as guilty?"

Tantalite really tried to not put on her best smile, but Midgard's response just painted her face into one of pure enjoyment. He had struggled with that answer. He'd been certain, but she could feel that it hadn't been an easy conclusion to come to. She stepped away from the edge of the roof, still no weapon in hand but now no longer looking down at the street.

"But will removing me making people sleep easier at night than it would if I were to take one horrible criminal out to hurt people?"

She conveniently ignored that she was also one criminal out to hurt people.

"Of course, you'll sleep just fine either way. You're a big strong man, you get to make rules for everybody, now don't you?"

His fingers flexed at his side, exhaling through his nose as he tried not to let her words get under her skin. It was tempting to walk forward, to allow his body to remember what it felt like to react instinctively. He didn't, because he wasn't here to fight unless he needed to. If he could persuade the woman with words, he'd rather do that.

Wetting his lips he shook his head at her.

"What puts you in a position to make those calls? You're just a lieutenant." Midgard was a gentler soul by nature, but there was something sharp to his tone as he spoke to the woman. "Why do you get to play god?"

Her insult was a slap to the face and he clenched his hands into fists. "You don't know the first thing about me."

A frown creased her face and it was clear that he'd hit a bit below the belt. He wasn't wrong, but never the less.

"How do you know I don't have permission to make calls? It isn't as though I'm..." she paused as though she'd had a wonderful thought and smiled again. Whatever notion he'd prompted her to have, she didn't share. Tantalite had just had a great idea. "Well, I'm certainly not in trouble for what I do. Which is a good job."

His clenched fists did get a nervous glance and Tantalite purposely kept her distance.

"Don't I though? You're an adult male and you're definitely not a minority on appearance. I get to be a frail young lady during the day that has decisions made for her by people like you. This means you afford certain comforts by your existence alone."

His otherwise stoic expression twisted into a sneer when she tried to bluff. "Because that's not how the Negaverse works." It didn't matter how competent the lieutenant was, they were still the lowest rank, next to youma, and they didn't get special privileges.

For the first time he could remember, Midgard was decidedly mean. "You aren't that special." A low, taunting blow perhaps, but the tension in his shoulders and how he held himself spoke volumes.

"No matter what they tell you." He hadn't experienced it personally, but he had seen it. His resistance had always been prevalent beneath the reaper's thumb, but the rest of the man's underlings..

"I'm not going to continue to let you hurt people, regardless of what you think you know about me."

Him being straight up mean didn't actually hurt her feelings. In fact, it delighted her. It sent a chill straight through her that was dark and exciting.

"That's cute, who are you to know how the Negaverse works?" her eyes ran down him with that same twisted interest she'd had the last time he'd gotten mean and violent with her. Tantalite clearly had very specific interests. "Good girls get special jobs, low branch or not," a lie, and perhaps he'd call her out on it....but she liked where her bluffs had taken him.

Finally, she did take another step towards him. "And what will you do to stop me? How far are you ready to take your cause into your hands?"

There was a sharper edge to his sneer. "Like I said, you don't know the first thing about me." Everything she'd hit him with had been observations made on assumptions. He knew more about the Negaverse than he felt she did. She was bright-eyed and naive when it came to the darkness clearly already polluting her heart.

"You tell yourself that all you want, it won't stop them from killing your entire family, or breaking your hands, or taking away something you love just because you made a mistake." Mistakes cost lives in the Negaverse.

She stepped forward and he forced his hands to uncurl, he wasn't here to fight unless he had to regardless of how she pushed him. "Unlike you," he seemed to snarl, thinking of the starseed he'd had to rip from her hands last time, "I don't take things like death and murder lightly."

The sharper his voice got, the more Tantalite seemed to enjoy it.

"And you don't know the first thing about me." though the way she flexed her hands denoted a certain concern about them. He was trying to scare her away, but all he was doing was steeling her resolve to not mess up. To up her game.

"You make just as many assumptions about me as you claim I do about you." though Midgard was making more informed assumptions than she was. Not that Tantalite would have known anything about that.

"So are you here to try and stop me or try and save me?"

"Maybe not you, but I know plenty about the thing you joined."

He knew two things about the woman; she was a lieutenant and a zealot. He knew several thing about the Negaverse; it took your worst traits and amplified them, corruption took your memories and manipulated them to make you loyal to the cause, it twisted the truth until you didn't know what to believe or what to trust. Midgard also knew what it did to the bright and hopeful; it took them and broke them, forged loyalty under false causes and promises of fame and power.

Labyrinthite had been a shiny example of that, hadn't he and Domeykite discussed that many times? Tourmaline risked being the same way and now, now this woman he barely knew showed that she was on the same path.

"When you fall short," not if, he said, when, "you'll see."

The Negaverse led lambs to the slaughter as far as he was concerned. "You don't want to be saved." And he knew you couldn't save the unwilling.

She'd heard stories that members of the Negaverse could become these.....traitors, and part of her wondered briefly if that was the case with the gentleman (not so gentle right now, though...) in front of her.

"And you won't be around to see it if it does happen." He was so certain the Negaverse was going to crush her, and there was something very pure about the way he had picked and chosen his battle: She wasn't going to allow herself to be saved, so he wouldn't waste his time on a losing battle.

Quietly, she summoned the bow as she stepped back away from him and towards the edge of the roof. "Then we'll see who you can save," she stated as she took a final step back and fell down into the street, landing on the sidewalk and startling a group of people down below.

The blond boy with the green eyes was gone now, a shame, but it didn't take her long to single out who her new choice was. She first was going to see if he would follow her - allow her to find a way to twist this to be his fault.
