It was one of those days. One of those rare days where their rest day was on the same day, and the family could get together. L'mul had planned it, but he honestly wasn't sure how it would turn out. He wanted his family--his whole family, because the word foster rarely occurred in his vocabulary--to get along. To enjoy each other's company. (Lial had recently begun playing with Trisa instead of teasing her, which L'mul saw as a huge success). Sure! They'd been born to someone else. Sure he had Rhey and Lial! But their family wasn't complete without Riag and Trisa.
"We're going to picnic!" He announced. He'd already told Owara the plan. They'd packed food and drinks, and a bedfur, they were ready. "We've got all your favorites packed!" Mashed tubers, vegetables, and other decidedly NON-favorites had snuck in their basket somehow. He suspected it was Owara's doing. He took the basket and balanced it on his arm.
"We'll go to the shoreline and see if we can find any firelizard eggs," he offered, looking towards Rhey. The little ones would happily splash in the swallows, teenagers were harder to entertain.

Owara smiled affectionately at their little family. Okay, so it wasn't actually all that little with two adults, two teenagers, and two toddlers. But that didn't matter to her. All that mattered was everyone got a long and since Rhey had recently had a successful 'big brother to little brother' talk with Lial, even he was getting along with Trisa. Which would be a big load off of Owara's shoulders during this trip.
"Is everyone ready to go?" she asked, mentally ticking off her checklist of things they had to bring. Yes, she'd packed everyone's favorite foods along with some vegetables. She had to get them to eat healthy somehow.
Lial clung to his father's leg, excited to be going. Especially once L'mul had mentioned possible firelizard eggs. "I'm ready!! I wanna go find eggs!" he said and beamed up at his parents.
Riagan laughed softly and ruffled the toddler's head, picking him up so L'mul would be able to walk unhindered. "I'm sure Owara will want us to eat before we rush off on any hunts," he said just to get Lial to calm down.
It didn't work. The toddler bounced in Rhey's arms, still beaming. "But then we can go hunt right? And swimming! I wanna go swimming too!"

L'mul smiled brightly at Lial, and shook his head. "Your brother's right, you know," he said, mock-sternly. "We have to eat before we hunt for eggs. Your momma' made us the best picnic lunch Pern has ever seen, and just think! If we found a nest of hungry hatchlings, it'll all go to them!" He gave a a horrified look. "We'd be hungry all day! Cranky, too. We can't go swimming and egg hunting on empty stomachs! Tsk."
"I want to go now too!" Trisa announced. She'd positioned herself just behind Rhey. She looked out from behind him, and up at her mother. "MOMMA! Let's go now! Please! I want to play in the water! Stariath is coming too?" She asked, directing her attention briefly to L'mul. He nodded, and the girl's attention was back on Owara. "Momma, we can swim with Stariath! Did you pack enough lunch for her, too?"
L'mul met Owara's eyes and chuckled. Imagine, a picnic basket large enough to hold lunch for a dragon!
