The Goldflight had been a nightmare. Nessuth had come back from it laughing and happy, though in pain, and he'd ended up in bed with some stranger from High Reaches. Running his hands through dark hair, blue eyes narrowed, as Ness continued to chirp his delight. It was annoying. Growling under his breath, the artist could feel the pangs in his shoulders, across the one eye that felt the pain of his dragon's scars with those he had that matched. Threadscoring hurt like a b***h, and it wasn't quite healed yet. Sighing softly, fingers ran across the flesh on the bridge of his nose, feet carrying him down a long hall as he tried to find some kind of solace. Any kind of respite from his dragon's prattling. /Nessuth. STOP. I don't care about the Flight any more. I don't want to know what you thought of her hide, and I literally don't give a single bit about it. PLEASE just go get some sleep and leave me alone./

Shaking his head, he really just hoped to be left alone...but when he saw Lestenna and -What, a Bronzerider?- In his path? He groaned irritably. Great. People. "....'Scuse me." Came the distant sound, his body making to immediately go past the two.

Lestenna had had an early morning, of course. It was always imperative to rise with the sun following one of Uridith's flights to check on her gold, but she was also the sort to wake early as it was. She rose like clockwork, and, knowing the weyr would be setting out a long and calorie-heavy breakfast to sate all those left 'hungover' from her gold's overflowing emotions, had gone silently down towards the kitchens to retrieve a tray of items. She could, of course, have sent for them, but action suited her better. And simply sitting in her weyr was a bit awkward on these sorts of mornings.

She'd come across A'dras seemingly of a similar mind, and paused in her quest to share words with the older man. Gareth had flown well, and she'd been somewhat surprised to find Uridith hadn't selected him, as they'd talked before about their general approval of the bronze pair. Then again, there had been a substantial pool to pick from. More than she'd anticipated coming to her gold's call, and a few she had been, upon waking and considering it, certain were not natives to the weyr.

A rather exhausted "'Scuse me..." had distracted her from her thoughts and their discussion, and she turned too quickly to let T'at slip past, recognizing him immediately as one of those who was...not quite a local. Certainly he'd been around long enough that she at least knew of him, but he wasn't really part of the weyr. That alone made him worth noting, and now he was pinned by her assessing stare. "...Nessuth's, right? A near thing, that. He's quite strong, and fast, for all the scarring." That's right, she remembered now. Uridith's heart had ached for the poor dear, but her choice had required more than sympathy for its criteria. "I'd guess he's quite tired today...You should speak to one of the dragonhealers. I'm sure they've a salve that'd help him from going tight and tense today."

Gareth had returned to the weyr a little disappointed he had not been the one to catch Uridith's eyes, but that hadn't lasted for long. He had soon found himself with Delyth curled up beside him, his large wings encasing her, helping to ease the disappointment. A'dras had taken to his usual activity because of flight lust and lain with Branwyn, which resulted in him waking up without worry of who he was beside. An early riser naturally, A'dras had exited the bed without waking his weyrmate and had made his way down to the dinning hall to get himself something to eat, he had asked one of the helpers to take something to his weyr for Branwyn.

He wasn't surprised to see Lestenna as he had been leaving. He had smiled at her, bowing his head some as she told him that Gareth had flown well. He had responded by thanking her and saying that it had just not been in the stars for the bronze to catch Uridith and added that perhaps next time.

A voice coming across caught his attention and he turned his head to see who was speaking. He didn't recognize the man but from Gareth he got the image of a brown dragon with threadscoring upon his body. Throughout the flight, Gareth had been interested in the brown during the flight, the scars having caught his attention. If memory served the brown had been very acrobatic and lithe in his actions, something that could be useful here as well.

Listening to Lestenna speak to the man, A'dras just stood there, watching them. She was suggesting that he see a healer to help Nessuth's scars from hurting too much after the flight. He wondered if the man would take this offer of help or not, he wasn't a part of this weyr, yet. A'dras hoped the young man would change his mind and join. "Are you planning on leaving the Weyr soon?" He tried to keep his tone just conversational, hoping he wasn't coming across in an intimidating way.

Being stopped by a Goldrider's gaze, and she already had him on edge. It didn't help that she instantly launched in to 'How to care for your Dragon'. That got the man's teeth to set in to a tight grip, his mouth a thin line as he glared at the floor, trying to rein his temper in. After all, you didn't snap at a woman like this, even though he wanted to snap, "...I...am fully aware of what I need to do in order to tend to Nessuth's aches. Thank you for the input." The words were tense, those ice blue eyes turning to meet hers. It would show that the input was rather...unwanted, that he thought of her help the same way that he thought of the scarring on his face. He did not NEED this from some over-inflated Rider who thought she might talk to him like any other Brownrider, "Ness and I have everything handled so that we can recuperate from Flying for your Gold as quickly as possible."

And then the Bronzerider just HAD to talk to him. If his jaw clenched any tighter, his teeth might break, "...T'at. My name is T'at. And yes. As soon as Ness is back on his feet, we're out of here. I do not live in Weyrs any longer...not after we left his home Weyr." There was clearly an air of dismissal, he ready to RUN, to leave so that he could go tend to Ness after eating.

Lestenna watched the clear ire bubble up on T'at's face, her own remaining stoic in the face of his plain emotions. "You mistake me," She interjected, tone even but firm. She might not be weyrwoman, but she was a gold rider, and used to on some level being obeyed and respected. It was not worth rising to anger over though—he was only a brown rider, in the end, and in some ways naturally beneath the notice of her temper for it. "I meant that as an offer, and not a slight against your ability to care for your brown. To survive...weyrless...takes some skill. But your brown did fly well, and deserves to be given the best care on offer." She was watching him closely, and if he ran she'd not follow him, but there would be judgement for his choices if he made them. "And we are offering."

In truth the brown had done well. He'd had Uridith's attention more than once, and though the gold had never yet deigned to choose a brown, it hadn't seemed beyond the possibility last night. He'd make a fine asset, with his swift and quiet flight, though a bad attitude might make him not worth the trouble of...rebreaking to weyr life. She glanced briefly at A'dras, noting the same consideration in his face. She trusted her own judgement above all else, but that he too had seemed to ponder encouraging the brown to stay...well.

"And besides. Why not take advantage, spare your own supplies, and then get on your way all the sooner if you're so keen to put your tailforks to us. Though then again, thread is due in a few days..." She hmmed to herself, and seemed almost to disregard T'at then. "I'll make sure your stay is unbothered. What time you need to recover is yours, and for the duration, consider the weyr you've claimed your own as well. Nessuth, at least, deserves it for the honor he's paid my gold."

The anger that was seen flashing in the man's eyes wasn't unusual, at least not in A'dras opinion. He had been weyrless before thread started, only having had the fortune of visiting High Reaches when it fell, and he had been a bronze rider and easy to be brought into the fold of the new weyr. He supposed he might have felt annoyed as well if someone had decided to tell him how to take care of his own dragon, but A'dras had been able to tell that Lestenna had been offering help for him. He had also seen a look in her eyes that matched one of his own, they wanted T'at and Nessuth to stay at the weyr, to join their forces against Thread.

Once again, A'dras let Lestenna speak first, clearing up the misinformation about her tone. The fact they were planning on leaving the weyr again made A'dras raise an eyebrow, though he still didn't speak, not right away at least. He listened to what Lestenna had to say so that he would be able to add to her words, not repeat anything he said.

Bringing up that thread was due to fall again in a few days would be a blow to the man, at least that was what A'dras thought. He seemed protective of his dragon, like many riders were and they had already bee threadscored.

"She brings up many points, T'at. While you are free to leave when you wish, I hope you do not feel as if we are running you off." He doubted his words would work, or if Lestenna's would either. "I was without a weyr for a while as well, I understand how it feels to be away from people, especially if you have been ostracized, but Thread is a time when we cannot take those liberties as we have been, It is safer, in the long run, for you and your bonded."

At least she clarified. Letting out a tiny breath he hadn't realized he was holding, he offered an awkward smile to the Goldrider. Let her know that he'd accepted her advice, "Thank you...I guess....for the...offer..." A shrug, and he leaned back on a foot, listening to the two go on while he played fingers over the tattoo on his right arm. It was a full piece, twining from his neck, all the way to his wrist, of two dragons, one chasing a flight. It wasn't much visible under his longer-sleeved shirt, he content that it was hidden as he let them talk about the weyr...and then Threadfall was mentioned. Slowly, those eyes hardened, gaze turning up to meet A'dras' first, then Lestenna's. They dare assume he was going to help them with the Threadfall? T'at was sick of that assumption. It was that sharding line of thought that had gotten Nessuth hurt.
/Mine....It was my decision to fight for Benden...Re-/
/I remember, Nessuth...and we both got hurt because of it....You're just lucky you didn't tear your wing further during that flight./

It was the latter part of A'dras' own speech that had his lips curling, white teeth bared in what might have been a grimace or a grin, depending, "....You do not understand ANYTHING. A'dras, isn't it? I doubt you would ever understand. We might stay until after the thread. We might not. That is our call...You people don't want someone like me here. Trust me."

It went some way towards soothing whatever rankles T'at's snap had tugged up within the goldrider. Emotions rose high during and after a gold flight, and though on some level she determined that him being thus-affected said something about the man's level of willpower and innate emotional state, she kept those thoughts and judgements to herself. Of course, a moment later when he all but chewed out A'dras (and herself by association) what ground he'd gained was lost in her mind.

"Staying or not is your own decision to make, yes." Her words were kind, but her tone had taken on the hard edge of mild frustration with his continued and unnecessary antagonism. "Though of course we'd want you if you had it in you to stay." She took a slow breath, stilling the bubble of ire that had begun to swell, softening her tone. There was no reason to burn bridges even if he ended up running across them as fast as he was able.

"As we said, your brown flew well. He is exceptional, faster and more deft than is usual for his color. Uridith informed me of his attitude as well, namely that she at least found him genial and charming. You mentioned coming with him from another weyr, and so it stands to reason you'd have some sort of training as well." She lifted her chin, pride in her weyr unspoken but plain. "I don't know what's got you thinking we would force you either way. What A'dras meant was just that if you felt the urge to join a weyr, some day, as his bronze and my gold both did, then High Reaches would gladly have you." She did not know his history of course, but bodies were bodies, and their skill had been undeniable. "We see your worth. And, of course, that it is yours to choose to invest or not."

You should learn to speak a bit more eloquently mine. Perhaps then, you would not ruffle as many feathers. At Gareth's voice, A'dras eyes narrowed some. That maybe, but I feel this young man would have his feather's ruffled either way.

His eyes had darkened some as he listened to T'at speak, especially when he turned his ire towards him. He didn't understand anything? This boy didn't have the right to say that because he didn't know A'dras either. What reasons would a rider have to leave their own weyr if Thread wasn't the cause? A'dras deemed to keep his mouth shut, for now at least, letting Lestenna speak while he tried to keep his own ire in check.

"Perhaps you are right." Mine, watch your words Gareth's warning fell on deaf ears. "We have no need of a dragonrider who is too cowardly to even stand up and fight to help protect the world he lives in." He could feel Gareth's exasperation at his words, but he didn't care right now. "You're past is not what we care about. With thread returned it does not matter what you did before. Nessuth has a need and a drive, as well as the exceptional skills to fight thread, and you deny him that."

T’at had begun to calm as Lestenna talked, watching her with those strange, dark eyes. She spoke of his worth, of Ness’ skill….and to be honest? That was the best way to go with him. Talk about Nessuth, and speak well. There was a little bit of pride on his face, and taking a breath, he shrugged, “A weyr like this one is kinder than it might otherwise-” And that got him to pause. Why? Because of A’dras. Slowly, his eyes began to narrow, listen to the other snap at him, call him a coward. His spine straightened, a fury burning in his gaze as he clenched his fist. Punching an older bronzerider wasn’t a good idea, but he wanted to right now. How DARE he talk like that?! His concern for the ONLY creature that gave a damn about him was the furthest thing from cowardice.

“People like you are why I avoid weyrs.” He snapped at the Bronzerider, looking for all the world like he would rip his head off, “Talking like you know me, or how I think. Speaking like you know NESS.” His fists tightened further, nostrils flaring, “He and I are PARTNERS. Everything we do, we work TOGETHER on, and he is damn well aware of why we don’t stay. He understands people, and me, and that is more than I can say for you, Bronzerider. I am not a coward. I am a man who has seen enough to know when to fight, and when it’s foolish. I am a Rider first. I listen to my Dragon, and all he has to tell me. “ His fury had him shoving his hands against his sides to try to rein in his own need to hurt someone….

/Mine...It will be okay...You should walk away from them...Please/

A beat before T'at's ire boiled over, and as A'dras spoke, Lestenna knew that this was not going to go well. What was worse? To gain an asset, but an emotionally unstable one, and risk future incident, or miss out on the chance entirely, and possibly lose that asset? Either way, the almost goading nature of the bronze rider's words was uncalled for, and that must be dealt with first, she decided. T'at may or mightn't join the weyr, but A'dras was already a part of it. "A'dras." Her voice was not raised, but there was a sharp bite to it that was unfamiliar between the two of them, who usually got along so well. They would have words later, she was sure, when they were alone and the passions of the night and morning had finally left enough to clear their minds wholly.

She stepped forward then, shifting herself to form a slight physical barrier between the two men. "No man can know another's dragon so well as he knows his own," She admitted to T'at. "You must do as he wills. The dragon decides, and the rider complies—we wouldn't dream of forcing either of you to stay, I swear it on the unborn eggs within my gold." She glanced back at A'dras, reproach clear in her eyes, though they were not much softer once back on T'at. "Though A'dras is correct; as things stand, the weyrs cannot afford to hold past grievances against riders. We need strong fliers, and brave men to ride them. I will not continue to press the issue, but know that our displeasure," And again her eyes found A'dras' for a moment. "With the thought of a rejection is wholly because we do see your value, and would regret not at least making the offer. Now then..."

She turned to put her back to T'at, reaching out to slide her arm in A'dras' and begin to draw him away along with her. "There's ample food, I'm sure you've seen, in the dining halls. Please help yourself to it while you're with us, and I thank you again for the honor paid my gold by your participation in her flight." It was as much as she could do to swiftly resolve the would-be fight, and next on her plan was simply to separate the two men, and then complete her own mission and return to her weyr. It was, frankly, too early for this.

Seeing T'at's anger brought a slight enthusiasm forth that A'dras had not felt in a while. Was he looking for a fight? It wasn't like he had not had the ability to work off the flight lust he had been saddled with. T'at's words towards him made the older man narrow his eyes and it was all that Gareth could do to keep his rider from snapping at him again. It also helped that Lestenna snapped at him as well, the tone in which she spoke his name made the bronzerider turn his head to look at her. Older though he may be, he still had a temper of a young buck and that really showed when he felt someone was shirking their duty like this T'at was.

He wanted to retort, especially back to the people like you quip, but he held his tongue. His temper had gotten him into trouble before when he had driven his sword through G'hin back in Monaco. Perhaps trying to say that Ness would feel an urge to fight thread was wrong, A'dras understood that now, but he didn't change his view on T'at. The man was scared and because he was afraid that made his dragon afraid. He know felt as if they would be better off without T'at joining, though he wouldn't stop him if he did manage to change his mind and join up with them. Perhaps in time he would apologize to the young man, but now he was going to stand his ground.

He wasn't necessarily paying attention to what Lestenna was saying to T'at, he was more focusing on calming himself down with Gareth's help. He caught the look that she gave him and then he felt her arm in his, leading him away from T'at. He let out a deep sigh, raising a hand and running it through his hair, not having tied it up this morning. "I apologize for that Lestenna." He knew it was needed, if he was going to apologize, it had to be to her. The fact she had seen him that way, it was why many at his home weyr had been surprised when he impressed a bronze. "Seeing someone shirk their duty..." He shook his head some. "I should not have lost my temper and I should have let you handle the situation." A'dras felt relief from Gareth as he spoke, glad that his rider had taken the initiative to own up to his actions.
