When Roz returned, it was with a long staff in one hand, looking suspicious and not straying too far from Lysander's back.

He's the one who assaulted your friend? I could give it a good go, you know. And I think you'd like nothing better.

Lysander really didn't like violence. And Roswell...was trying not to. But he waited for Lysander's word on it.

"We've completed your task," Roz said, as graciously as he could muster, "and we'd like to retire to our quarters."

Lysander was carrying a very large very wide sword shaped like a large horn when he emerged from the cove, giving Melvin a very defiant sort of look. He wasn't thinking exactly what Roz was, but he was irritated at Melvin. He couldn't think for the voice in his head, very distressed about it.

<> she said. <>

"You'll take us to the quartermaster." he said, still staring at Melvin, shoulders back. "And make sure we get a decent room."

Melvin smiled back, wondering if the trainees would be a lot less cocky and sure after meeting their weapons. While Roz was still lingering by Lys, Lysander came in still putting up a show. Between him or the guy who kicked his leg, he liked Roz more.

He gave a slow clap as they approached. "Congrats on finding your partners. What are their names?"

"I've already contacted them and they have your room assignments. Desummon your weapons to their totem form. It's considered impolite and threatening to have one drawn."

He headed up the steps and lead them out of the cove and threw the Labs, waving to a few workers he knew.as he passed down he stopped at a counter where the quartermaster gazed up. "The two trainees I reported."

Grumbling, two packs were set on the counter. Standard phones, starter supplies, and phone.

"Sign for your stuff. Keep your phones on you as that is hoe you get meeting and mission notices." He took a slip from the Quartermaster for the room numbers and smiled.

Roz gave Melvin a tight smile at the condescending clap and casual slew of jargon. Most guides were excited about their little ceremonies. He wasn't in a sharing mood.

"Is that a suggestion or compulsion?" He asked. "If you don't mind, I'll keep the staff on me."

The buildings didn't look old, at least. In fact, parts of them looked as if they had been renovated recently. Walking outside between them it was easy to see at last where they were, an island, with an endless sea and sand and rocks that would have been picturesque if it weren't for the situation.

He kept examining the staff, too, which much care and detail had gone into.
It seemed sturdy enough. He didn't think any parts were going to come off.
A weapon more than a prop.

Well, thank you, Gil said, I have always had my looks going for me, failing all else.

Pretending it was the drugs made the voice a lot less invasive, since it was,
Roz considered, his subconscious or some nonsense, and as long as things stayed that way he could go forward.

When asked to sign, Roz began to protest, "I don't have a pen-", when he found in his hand instead of the staff an elegant combination pen and quill,
with a handsome feather attached to a base that had the same embroidering of the staff.

He was getting tired of parlor tricks.

Roz took up the paperwork with a sigh to read with a quick, thorough, and expert eye.

Lysander didn't desummon the sword either, at least at first, mainly because Melvin had tried to tell him what to do, but the more they walked the heavier it felt to him.

<> the voice in his head insisted. <> He wanted to ask herald of what exactly. <> He hadn't said it but somehow it had known. It was unsettling and he didn't like it at all, so he pushed it away and tried not to think about it. On the way over he said nothing, finally desummoning the heavy sword as they reached the quartermaster because his arm was getting tired.

It snaked around his waist as a leather belt with a strange toxic looking sheen and a silver buckle.

He took the phone with a look of flat dissapointment. "You call this a phone?" he said to Melvin. "I had a designer iphone."

Not really paying attention to much other than his heavy dread and dissapointment he'd missed where Roz had gotten his pen from. He blinked at it.

"That's weird." he said slowly as he looked at it. "Can I have a normal pen?"

PostPosted: Wed May 03, 2017 12:17 pm

"It's a rule unless you are on the training field. Drawn weapons inside areas no reserved for training is seen as a sign of aggression and can lead to destruction of property or injury. It's frowned upon bit do whatever you want. I warned you."

Melvin watched both weapon totem themselves and was glad for it, not wanting to explain to others why they were drawn indoors.

The feather was a bit extravagant. "Is your weapon some kind of harpy?" He asked as he took out a normal pen from his pocket and held it for Lysander.

"Phones are standard issue and modified to work on the island. More durable than normal phones and modified to work on the island. If you want better tech you will have to pay to get it off island and then modified to work here. With missions a fancy phone would break pretty easily. Plenty of times you get knocked around or have to go for unexpected swims."

The form was a simple letter stating you were who you said you were and that all items listed were included that you were taking now.

After they signed, he started to head to the dorms. "Which divisions are you in? The symbol on your coats will tell."

"A harpy. From greek mythology. No, you gave me a staff," Roz said primly, turning to Lysander and holding on to the pen with the same grip he was using to hang on to his sanity.

"It's an inventory. Here and here," He indicated the places to sign with Xs and handed Lys his bit of the paperwork, signing his own at a lightning pace. He placed his own clipboard on the desk.

"Division? Are we going to have other bunkmates?" Roz placed the pen in his pocket and turned over the jacket to decipher the fabric. "A tree," he answered, wondering if the other symbols were unicorns and the like. Getting knocked around sounded about as much fun as whatever the hell had happened to them previously, the death initiation ceremony, did.

"I'd prefer to have some time to ourselves before we're threatened into whatever next activity. Is there a schedule? What services are communal versus private? The...bathing, and dining, and so forth?"

Lysander didn't even read the paperwork, having lost interest in it already and instead signed blindly where Roz had marked and slapped the paper down on the table rather than handing it helpfully to Melvin.

"Bunkmates?" he said. "Like in a hostel?" He'd gone slumming it a few times, but he didn't like it too much, it was too risky. He'd never been robbed though he'd been woken up a few times in the night with commotions. It wasn't worth it. "I hope not." he said. He looked at his coat without any enthusiasm.

"Ugh it's white."Lysander said, looking crestfallen at the coat. It wouldn't match anything he owned. No one wore white after labour day. It was the worst. "And it looks old. Old and tatty. Not even like, distressed tatty. Just old."

He sighed miserably. "No phones, no tech, no anything. Is this a scarf? What would I need a black scarf for in Bermuda!?"

"The tree is the symbol of the Life division. You can tell what division everyone is in by their coats which you'll wear on the island and on missions. I'm in Life. We handle research, development, the Infirmary, and the labs. The other divisions are Sun, Moon, Mist, and Death. Sun are the offensive group. Frontline fighters. Moon acts as defense and support. They do a lot of healing on the field until hunters can reach the Infirmary. Death handles intel and security. Mist is the jack of all trades group."

He smiled a little. "So I'm sure to see you two plenty in the future."

"The scarf is part of the uniform. Makes about as much sense as a bikini in the Arctic." He did enjoy seeing how upset Lysander was at Lysander but slowly frowned at the coat. "It's probably belonged to another hunter."

He was silent till they reached the dorms, one hand touching the hem of his coat.

Walking into the dorms, he turned the corner unlocked the door. He opened the door and gestured inside. "Rooms come with some furniture. I'd wash everything if I were you. Bathrooms and showers are down the hall. Cafeteria is in the main building. There are smaller kitchens with fridges but you risk anyone eating what you get or make. Getting a mini fridge is a good idea. There is a bar in town that makes food too. Promotion means you can get better rooms or you can buy a upgrade later."

"You will report to the Life division tomorrow to see what duties you will be doing. Check your phones regularly. Anything else you need to know or want to ask?"

Communal. That was the answer for everything but the rooms, but the lack of bunk beds was a relief. He noted there was only a singular bed, which would need adressing. And while the length of that model would comfortably fit him, Lysander ran into the same problem with these places, which is that historic figures seemed to a good number of inches shorter than most of modernity, and Lysander was many inches taller.

The room was small, but they had stayed in worse. Roswell just wished that Lysander would favor the top of the line accommodations more than the authentic ones.

The experience was certainly immersive.

That is one way of looking at it, Gil said, sounding amused.

He just wanted the drugs to wear off, but with a sigh, he rolled up his cuffs.

"I'll get started. Are there cleaning supplies? Where is the other accommodation?"

They had gotten lucky once, but not twice. The second room was in the basement.

"Life division." Lys repeated, deciding immediately that Melvin talked too much and deciding that Roz would listen to him ramble.

"Some other hunter? Wow I'm not wearing that."

He tossed the coat on the bed and sighed. "Tiny bed. I suppose you get what you pay for here."

It was a truly tragic little room and he didn't even have a festival, meeting or commune to look forward to at the end of it, but it was only fair to play along, otherwise he wouldn't get the full kidnap and private military experience.

"I'll be glad to get back to my own bed afterwards."

PostPosted: Wed May 03, 2017 3:55 pm

Melvin leaned on the door frame and watched him hit the bed. "Aww don't be that way. The bed was plenty comfortable for it's previous resident." He said with a knowing little smile.

He handed Roz the key to this room. "Since you are his caretaker. The other room is in the basement. I can take you there or you can wander there on your own. Cleaning supplies are in the hallway closets." He handed the other key to Roz too.

A eyebrow raised as he looked at Lysander. "You have no bed to go back too. You signed that away when you got here, and you have to wait before you even get leave time to go anywhere."

"Personal assistant," Roz corrected, "The basement. Yes, I suppose I'd better see it, and where the supplies are kept," Roz said, although he wanted nothing better than some rest and privacy.

He fetched Lysander's coat from the bed, hanging it in the small closet and neatly placing stacking of their bags and belongings from the quartermaster.

"Did you still want to see the washroom facilities, sir?"
PostPosted: Wed May 03, 2017 4:44 pm

Lysander gave the bed a look of faint disgust. "Did you live here?" he asked, really not keen on using the bed.

"And yes yes, so you keep saying, very immersive." he wa ved a hand at Melvin for his comments about the permanence of their visit.

Roz got a nod. "Probably wise, though it can wait until after we get settled in if it needs to. I wouldn't half mind a shower. I'm not sure how long I was in that container but I think the answer is probably too long."

He dreaded the state of the bathrooms and showers quite a bit, but this was what they had to work with. It was certainly different from the life he'd come from and he'd make the best of it, play the game and then go home again.

And still the voice kept talking.

Melvin continued to lean on the door frame. "No. I didn't live here. I just know who did and they were very friendly."

He looked over at Roz. "I can show you the basement, but the closet and bathroom are something you can check yourself." Moving off he door, he walked out into the hallway and started to walk.
