Against her better judgment, Chione was out again. Powered up again for absolutely no good reason what so ever. She didn’t think it was because of Acubens horror at her not enjoying this…gift of being a dark mirror senshi or something…but, that might have had something do to with it, even if it was just a small, small pang of guilt at it.

But…here she was, and she was testing out the wraith that lived in the shard that resided in the silver band on her arm, watching as the strange creature flitted in and out of a drunken, passed out homeless man, growing more and more solid as it worked.

It was…interesting. She felt a little bothered by it, but…but then she felt something else. Someone else? Someone stronger…

She paused and quickly returned the wraith to its shard and looked around, half afraid and half curious as to who might be there. Not that she knew anyone…and not that she was a known commodity…but…

But still.

Quietly, Chione made her way closer to the other aura, not knowing what she would find…and not knowing what she was going to do either…she had magic…and she could use that, right? Right. She could do this.

…Whatever ‘this’ was.

He did most of his patrols alone, because they were often born of a need to get out of the house. To toss off his blankets and scramble out of bed, lace his shoes on and flee out into the darkness that made up the night because his heart rate was too erratic and his demons were nipping at his heels.

He had options, surely, of people he could call on to walk with him. People who might have been able to ease the restlessness and the rattle of his heart against his ribs if he only asked.

Yet, Midgard never asked.

He didn't think himself worth of such gifts really. Besides, these were his sins to bear and purge alone. If he couldn't stand on his own two legs, then what was the point of it all?

The aura that seemed to eclipse his own felt unfamiliar, unrecognizable. It wasn't of the Negaverse, no the feeling of that aura was imprinted on his skin, destined to leave the hair on his arms alive with fear and anxiety. He should have run, he knew that he should have made his legs move but instead, Midgard stopped moving at all and waited.

As she neared, Chione idly wondered if it would just be better to turn and go home…she didn’t need to fight, right? After all, she had gotten the energy from the one guy so…she had done a bit of good tonight…right?

When she came upon the Squire, it felt so sudden, and Chione hadn’t been prepared to find him so quickly and to just see him standing there that for a moment, she panicked. She stood there, wide eyed and then did the first thing she could think of.

She attacked.

“Chione little blizzard!” Her hand was held out and she watched as the magic came out of her palm. It was pretty…but…

But the second it left she felt horribly guilty…he hadn’t done anything, and now she was the bad guy. All he had been doing was standing there.

“I…”

See. This was why she didn’t do this. This was why she left this whole magic thing alone. She hadn’t felt bad for draining the homeless man…but this made her feel quite bad.

Everything happened in a flash. The source of the weird aura had found him and with her arrival, a burst of snowflakes flew his way. The cold bit into the exposed skin of his face and his arms were flailing, trying to push through the artificial blizzard.

Somewhere, in the back of his mind someone was snarling, magic has a timer, wait it out.

There was a hiss when raised his arms, tonfas appearing in his hands as he brought the shield up to protect his face, even if he didn't slot the pieces together.

"Why are you doing this?"

“You…you startled me…” It was a pathetic excuse, and she knew it, and was very relieved when the blizzard stopped blowing and the attack was done.

Chione felt…really kind of awful. “I…I’m sorry I just…you’re stronger than me and I just assumed…and I…”

She didn’t have to tell him all of this. She was rambling and uncomfortable, and where on earth was the tough Lavender who always was ahead of every situation? She surely wasn’t here right now. No. This was Chione, someone who didn’t know why she was bothering to be out right now playing dress up and shooting snow out of her palm.

It was ridiculous.

“I’m new at this…I guess I just panicked. I felt you, and then you were just there, and I couldn’t think of anything else to do.” Drawing in a breath, Chione shook her head. “Who…are you? What are you?” Maybe this was a bit of a better way to go about things? She doubted it but…Maybe it would be a start.

It took what felt like an eternity for the blizzard to end and when it did, his skin was red and angry looking, a product of the cold even if his shield had taken the brunt of it. It hadn't been enough, over all, but it could have been worse.

Green eyes blinked at the woman who assaulted him, with a mean retort on his tongue that he just swallowed back down his throat.

"I'm not here to hurt you." He said instead of the I was just standing here that he was thinking instead. English flowed more smoothly these days, reflexive instead of forced which was nice. "I'm a knight of Chronos." He said, dodging the question of what his name was. He didn't know what she was and he still wasn't comfortable giving his name to anyone on the dark side of things.

"You're not part of the negaverse." He could tell that much, a sweeping glance over her uniform told him as much. "What are you."

“I’m uh…” Chione blinked. Didn’t…everyone know what the Dark Mirror senshi were? Or were they so…

With a sigh, she shrugged. “I’m…one of the Dark Mirror Senshi, I guess. I mean, that’s what I am, there’s not really any guessing but…what’s a knight? I’ve never…met someone outside of my own court before…I mean, outside…”

Drawing in a breath, Chione shook her head. “I’m not making any sense. I’ve never met anyone…not on my side of things before is what I’m trying to say. I think. I…you sure you’re not here to hurt me? Because you’re stronger than I am and I don’t know. I can’t help that I freaked out.”

It felt like such a lame excuse and she shifted on her feet a little, crossing her arms across her chest. “I’m not part of the Negaverse, no. Were…you expecting someone from the Negaverse…? I’m…uh. I’m Chione. Senshi of Blizzards. But…maybe I should just take my leave now…I’ve caused enough trouble.”

I'm...one of the Dark Mirror Senshi, I guess.

Midgard knew of the Dark Mirrors, the looming general who had managed to become the boogeyman to him had always expressed contempt for them. IT was for reasons he didn't understand because he came in too late, hadn't seen what they'd done or were capable of doing. This girl just looked frightened, lost, and confused.

He had no opinion on the faction and the general's prejudice had never bled over.

"I'm what they should have been, before the corruption rooted." He offered, an explanation that was probably more confusing than clarifying. "Hey - wait!" He reached then hesitated, drawing the shield and warm back. "You seem frightened." He was frowning at her.

"Why are you part of something that seems to scare you?"

“You’re what…the Negaverse should have been?” For a moment, Chione seemed intrigued. That sounded…interesting.

So he was…a Negaverse agent without…corruption? That’s what a knight was? “But…what is the corruption…and of course I was frightened. You’re the first…knight I’ve ever met. How was I to know you weren’t going to just lash out and chop of my head or something, hm?”

Slowly, the senshi lowered her arms and shrugged. “I’m not…scared of…I mean, it’s not that. I don’t normally…I’ve been avoiding all of this for years now and…I really don’t know what possessed me to start gallivanting around, let alone attacking people…I just…” She shrugged again. “I don’t know.” It all sounded so stupid and half baked and…like excuses. Everything that was coming out of her mouth just sounded like an excuse.

“Why do you do it? Come out and get involved in all of this? What’s your reason?”

"Yes."

Midgard knew that there were better ways to explain things, but he found himself a bit lost for words, because he didn't want to give too much of himself away to someone he knew so little about. With a sigh, he made an attempt to communicate and clarify. "When you strip away the layers of chaos that pollute the starseed and you break free you find something - someone - new beneath all of it." That was the basis of it all wasn't it?

Though, some days he wondered if he was meant to be someone ordinary.

"Corruption clouds your judgement," he said thinking about the way he always did things because he was expected to. "It takes the worst parts of you and amplifies that." Though, that didn't explain how he had stayed so...good in contrast to the darkness that Labyrinthite had stepped into and embraced. "It takes everything you think you know and it alters it. Can't trust your own memories, can't trust yourself, and then you do all these things you wish you never had to but your hands are stained anyway - "

He stopped, trying to reign in his quiet frustration at his whole predicament.

"I don't - I don't blame you for being scared." Hadn't he been scared every day of his life when he had been Aluminite?

"I've done things I want to atone for and - I have something I want to protect, don't you?"

She listened, but couldn’t find anything to say…he was…he was talking so plainly, and yet the words didn’t seem to have much meaning to them. “But…and I’m not trying to…to say anything against you…but you and I are on different sides…though I’m not with the Negaverse…I don’t…I don’t feel clouded or anything like that. I just feel like me. In skimpy clothes…you know. With magic ice hands or whatever.”

Chione grew quiet again, finally shrugging. “I don’t…I mean, I haven’t done anything in this…side of my life that I feel like needs atonement…I haven’t been active at it at all, so I haven’t managed to…you know. Mess up. And…I don’t really think I have anything I want to protect either. Jeeze. When I say it like that, I sound pretty dang pathetic, don’t I?”

She was just dumb lonely Lavender. Hardly any friends, no girlfriend or boyfriend. No nothing. Just a speck of dust in this world, floating around with no direction.
“So…you just fight to atone for what you’ve done…? I guess that’s a pretty okay reason.”

Midgard didn't know what to say to the senshi - dark mirror senshi, he wondered what that meant - when she tried to refute his claims. Instead, he shrugged at her, green eyes watching her expression and the way she held herself.

"I didn't feel that way at first either," he admitted, thinking back to when he had met Teallite and how the adrenaline rush had filled him with giddiness. "But think about it, you steal from people." Energy or starseeds, it didn't matter. Chaos stole and stole and stole.

"I don't- I won't pretend I understand where you come from." It would be too foolish of him to. "But you take energy from people don't you? That's not natural. You feel like you have to attack people who happen upon you or vice versa. Is it worth it?" Midgard himself had always been combat-avoidant once he'd been under General Labyrinthite's thumb.

"I don't think it's pathetic," he took a step forward, brows furrowing as he tried to decide what to say. "I hope you don't end up having to atone. Guilt and sin are mighty heavy burdens to wear."

Chione felt rather uncomfortable with where this was heading and shrugged. She had stolen that guys energy just now…and it hadn’t seemed like that big of a deal…but the way this guy was talking…it kind of made her feel…well.

Awful.

“Sorry.” She didn’t know why she was apologizing to him. For attacking him? For taking the energy from the homeless guy? For…existing perhaps? “Thanks for your…concern…but I should go. I shouldn’t…”

Great. Now instead of the apathy she was used to having when she was flouncing around as Chione…now she had guilt to contend with too? Some sort of moral battle to wage? No. No she couldn’t handle this right now, and glancing around, trying to find some reason to go…or an excuse…or something. She wasn’t happy with where this was going…she felt…

Maybe that was just it. His words unnerved her and she just didn’t like them.
“I’m sorry…but I have to go…I have…I have things to do…It…was nice meeting you…” Sort of.

Chione flashed what she hoped passed for a smile and bolted, trying to get away from there as fast as her rather useless shoes would let her.
Maybe she had been right the first time. Maybe she just wasn’t cut out for this senshi stuff.

Seeing the way she was reacting had him stepping back, not out of fear that she'd attack but because he sought to give her some space realizing that maybe the things he was saying wasn't something she was ready for.

But, would she ever be?

"Stay safe," he mumbled as she turned and took off, heaving a heavy sigh in the aftermath as he too turned and continued on his way as the pulse of aura dissipated.
