She couldn't avoid Anakeion forever.

Those were the words Etoile had told her, and those were the words she chose to ignore. Lepus- now Super Chibi Lepus- had been pointedly avoiding the Castor Squire ever since the incident with the mirror wraith at the park. Etoile had initially sided with Lepus, because she always took Lepus' side, or at least usually did... or took the side of whoever was offering the most sweets. As time went on, though, Etoile had tried reasoning with Lepus, that Anakeion hadn't meant to hurt them, but Lepus was a stubborn person set in her ways, and had continued to avoid her, both in powered and non-powered life.

(She was very good at finding excuses not to be home if Amaris tried to visit.)

Eventually, though, Anakeion had managed to win the tiny Mauvian over, whether through bribery, threats, or enough begging and pleading, and Etoile had betrayed Lepus' wherabouts, much to the younger girl's chagrin. Standing atop the jungle gym in the playground at Knightside, Lepus stared down at Anakeion, frowning.

"I told her not to tell you anything," she said, feeling rather betrayed by her furry companion. Unsurprisingly, Etoile was nowhere in sight; Lepus was definitely not going to be giving her extra treats that night.

Amaris was no stranger to lying, to bribing, to any of it -- she didn't like it (as anyone with a conscience would feel, she hoped), but she was good at it if need be. It came with the territory of being perceptive the way she was; it wasn't lying if you acted the way they'd want to see anyways, was it? Probably not. (It kind of was. She tried not to think about it.)

The burns still itched. She'd covered them with long sleeves and pants when she could, gotten anti-burn gel, taken it easy for them to heal; but even weeks on she still felt like she could feel the thick fog on her skin - oily, choking, toxic. On her palms, on her heels, on her neck and on her sternum - everywhere Anakeion's uniform could barely hide. Two pearls on her necklace, shimmering black; the edges of her bracers, the tips of her skirt, black in the light. She hated it.

She hadn't powered up more than once or twice. She just wanted to sleep. The rest could wait, after an apology -- but Amaris hadn't expected Alise to be so difficult to find.

"I was working on her for a while," she admitted to Lepus, eyes downcast. "I just -- I know you didn't want to see me, alright? I know I can't make it better by saying I - didn't hit you. I can barely remember it, but."

"Just because you don't remember," Lepus began, accusingly, "If you don't remember, anyway- that doesn't mean you didn't do it."

Because she did. And it still stung, and not just in the physical sense. Deep down, Lepus knew she was being unreasonable, but she was a person who held grudges easily, and right now, she didn't feel like being reasonable.

"I" - Anakeion's voice was strangled. Even as Amaris, she'd never sounded like this, ever; never sounded so lost and unsure. It was a new side of her, and it wasn't entirely comfortable for anyone there. "I'm not asking you to forgive me, okay? I. I understand if you can't. Just."

Her breath came a little faster for a second. "I -- didn't know where I was. Who I was. It was in my head, and - it just kept - things I remembered." She shook her head. "Not just from this life. From my past life. She saw so many children die, Lepus, and all it was telling me was that I could fix that, I could make it so nobody could hurt them anymore - I thought you were my little sister." It was so hard for her to say.

"I'm sorry. You don't have to forgive me. I understand."

Anakeion looked miserable.
