Name: Bekah
Age: 19
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Craft: Healer
Rank: Senior Apprentice
Location: High Reaches Weyr
Physical Description: At first glance Bekah is a small unassuming girl, even when dressed well, shes not very striking, at least she doesnt think so. While shes shorter than most her age, she's also slender which makes her seem even smaller, younger even than her 18 turns. Her hair is a dark 'dirty' brown but if she's outside a lot in the sun, it has a tendency to lighten. Her eyes are a dark greyish blue. She likes to have clean clothes outside of when she's on shift in the infirmary, in that she is a regular girl of 18 and likes to look pretty but when she's 'working' she doesn't particularly care what she looks like as long as she gets the job done, She herself is always clean, since dirtyness breeds infection, one of the first really important lessons she learned apprenticing.

Personality: Bekah is a very straightforward young girl. She can often be too blunt however and tell you exactly what's on her mind. If you ask her "do i look fat in this" and you were overweight... or it looked awful Bekah would flat out tell you. She's not inherently mean but she see's no point in lying about something like that which doesn't earn her many friend. Bekah however doesn't mind this, she's honestly not bothered if you want to be her friend or not. It's a waste of effort in her mind to try and be something you're not just so others will like you. She's sometimes a bit scatterbrained though, often misplacing things as she forgets where she's put it. Often she'll find it later on, somewhere she didn't think she'd have placed it. When it comes to her healing though Bekah is very soft, she can be very reassuring and calm. She loves helping people, taking care of those that are hurt or sick. Bekah can sometimes feel overwhelmed if there's a large amount of injured coming in though and sometimes finds it hard to stay professional and cries with the loved ones over the death of their family member, or forgets herself and was more blunt than gentle when asked for something by a patient. She doesn't do too well under stress, needing direction when things get hectic, someone to tell her what needs doing but she IS trying to overcome that. Bekah's biggest problem with healing is that seeing Dragons, and their cousins hurt, pains Bekah greatly, she's cried more over dead dragons that she didn't know than she ever has over her patients, she HAS and does cry over her patients too, she feels bad about being more upset about dragons than people though. She does have a bad habit of biting her nails when she's nervous, though she tries her best not to. She has no delusions or aspirations of Impressing a Dragon, she is very dedicated to her work as a Healer, however she has thought about learning some Dragon Healing since the need is greater than for human Healers, now that Thread has returned, the great creatures sizes meaning they were much more likely to get injured. Her main issue is she's not often out of the infirmary, preferring to stay with her patients as much as she is allowed to which often makes her more approachable at times than a busy Master Healer.

Positive Trait List Dedicated, Loyal, Hardworking
Negative Trait List Easily overwhelmed, self sacrificing, self doubting.

History: Bekah's childhood was that of a typical Weyrbrat other than one thing, she determined from a young age that she didn't really want a dragon, or a Wher, or anything else except to practice Healing. Ever since she wandered in on a Healer tending to a badly wounded woman, she hadn't been as disgusted by the blood as she thought she'd be but she did baulk at the severity of the open wounds, apparently caused by a Gold Wher when the young woman had attempted to grab an egg and had bungled the attempt so badly that the Gold had savaged her. Bekah had been about 8 turns old and was grabbed and taken from the room as an apprentice healer went to fetch more water. She'd been told to stay out of the Master Healer's way but of course had gone back, and over time seen how much good healing did by watching the young woman's wounds turn from ugly bloody messes to raw but healing scars and was still a rather handsome woman, she'd been lucky not to have been left horribly disfigured, such were the nature of that woman's wounds. Bekah was fascinated and hung around so often that, outside of her regular lessons, she became somewhat of an almost personal drudge to the healers and their apprentices and was allowed to help with anything that didn't require Healer Training.

When she was old enough to become an Apprentice she asked at the Healer Hall if she could apply, To her joy they had accepted, having recently have an apprentice walk the tables to Journeyman and so needed a new apprentice to assign to a Master at the Weyr. She studied hard but she was always aware of how little she knew, was always nervous about anything she presented to her teacher. Even when she was praised, she double guessed herself wondering if she hadn't been able to more... to do better. However despite her misgivings and lack of confidence in herself, she adapted well and even left the Weyr for just over a Turn to complete some training in surrounding Holds with her Master.

After returning to the Weyr she was ready to take on anything it seemed, she encountered a young man, a Harper, who just happened to be the brother of her childhood friend. She had seen him around of course but had never paid attention to boys, even through puberty, she just had never been interested. However she couldn't ignore him after he brought his younger brother in after the kid broke his arm. The poor youngster had been terrified of Healers but her calm, gentle manner won him over, letting her sedate him long enough to set the break and wrapping it up protectively. Afterwards Ionan, which was the younger lads name, came back often, his brother she later learned was called Tassiel, would always be with him, but never talking to her. Shortly after signing Ionan off as healed and totally able to still Impress when he was old enough, she began getting presents left her, flowers at her desk before a shift, freshly brewed and HOT Klah being left at her door when she was working nights, once, on her Birthingday, she had arrived from her room, to be greeted by a plate of bubbly pies. She had learned from her friend T'rel that his brother Tassiel had been leaving the gifts and she'd been touched, keeping the secret. 2 turns later, after falling for him through his gifts, he had no idea she knew it was him but she had planned to leave him a gift on his birthingday, when Thread returned, throwing even the prepared High Reaches Weyr into panic and disarray, keeping Bekah busier than ever before, especially at first. She currently doesn't think about much beyond her next patient or how much sleep she's going to manage to get as the Masters are just as busy training more Apprentices as well as working. She's not had the chance to tell Tassiel how she feels.

Other: She's very good at writing notes quickly, using just as few words, then recalling and expanding on it later. She also wants a Gold flit to train to help her in her work, fetching and carrying, as well as therapy for patients.

Candidate Specific Questions
Do you want them to have an official Search RP? No
Do you understand they will age every passing year regardless if you're there to RP the or not? Yes
Do you want them to have a possible Stands Impression? Yes, Stands Impression is the ONLY way Bekah should impress, she will be stationed on the Sands at Hatchings as a healer on hand for emergencies and maulings. I want her to be open to the possibility during hatchings please.
- - - > Please keep in mind that Stands Impressions are very rare. This means that not everybody will get an opportunity to have a surprise Impression, and you lower your chances of being picked by a dragonet. Given the character is not ICly an official Candidate, they will need a reason to be at the Weyr of their choice long-term, or at least for every Hatching.

Hey Revel,

Is there any way you can change her name or make it more Pernified? Becka is a common Earth name, and I'm trying really hard to keep names a bit more Pernese. Even just changing the spelling to Bekka or Bekkah or Bhekka or something like that would have it fit the setting a lot more.

Otherwise I think the only thing that makes me go hmm is having her walk the tables at 16.

I have in the actual Character Creation guide the following rule.

Quote:
Journeymen: They must be at last 20 turns, minimum, if not older. For many on Pern this is as far as they'll advance their skills. Not everyone goes on to become a Master. That said, there is no age maximum on who can become a Journeyman."

I've been pretty lenient about it, and have let some folks walk the tables earlier than that in certain cases. But Healers need a lot of training, and while I get she's been interested in it all her life, I can't see her becoming a Journeyman before 18, and even then I wince a bit given what is entailed as a Healer, haha.

Otherwise, I'm happy to approve her. So if you can just adjust her Journeymanship age and maybe tweak her name to fit the setting a little bit more, she should be good to go.

Sorry to be a stickler! gaia_star

Fixed ... I couldn't change her age with forcing someone else to fix something, so I went for senior apprentice. My bad on the ages, I googled it, rather than checking this shop guidelines, totally my mistake
