Physical Description: Kellan is 5'9" and he's definitively still growing-- or so he would like to pretend. What he lacks in sheer size he makes up for in scrap. He combines looks with attitude in a particularly devilish way, something that probably seeped into his skin at a young age in his native Bitra. When he wants to fade into a crowd he can do so with surprising ease, taking on a rather ordinary everyman persona that usually keeps eyes off him. He looks sharp edged, sporting Bitran violet eyes and dark red hair.
Personality: With slippery hands, Kellan sometimes just finds that a mark or two make their way into his keeping. But he'd have you know that he doesn't have to steal to make marks, and he definitely doesn't have to cheat to win at a game of dragonpoker. In his father's gambling hall he takes a keen enjoyment out of parting fools from their marks, to the benefit of the casino. He's pretty good at provoking people to bet more than they intended to, especially when they shouldn't. That means being a good judge of character and being able to read body language. He probably would have been at home in the Harper Hall, but such was not his fate.
He's a clever young man who has a visceral enjoyment of diving into the deepest dark parts of human nature. He's more than familiar with the underbelly of society, at home in Bitra and Nabol both. The upright folks of the Weyr seriously confuse him, and he hasn't yet worked out their motivation beyond sheer hedonism-- which he can definitely appreciate. Noble causes are more or less lost on him, though it's more than possible that the right person could convince him that there's something beyond himself worth fighting for.
Self-indulgent, sensualistic, and sly, he lives his life to the absolute fullest with no holds barred. The only time he might hold back is when his skin might be at risk over a prize that's not worth the trouble. But make something worth his while and, well, things will change. There's almost nothing he wouldn't do for the right price and it's a legitimate question what a dragon might have seen in him. Honestly, he's not so sure himself, but he's enjoying the soft life at the Weyr so far. A few chores and some lessons and he gets the run of the Weyr? Sign him up. He is currently thoroughly enjoying running a little gambling on the side, which has not yet reached the notice of anyone important.
Positive Trait List Clever, confident, buoyant
Negative Trait List Selfish, hedonist, mercenary
History: Kellanar grew up in a hive of scum and villainy, and he looks the part. He's been working his way through the ranks to the absolute top of the worst of the worst, although he hadn't achieved his goal before he was Searched. He's as confused as anyone about why a dragon took him along for the ride-- although he's wondered if maybe the rider wasn't thinking with the brain inside his head. Anyway, his father owns a very profitable gambling hall and there is absolutely nothing legitimate about it. Which, of course, is why he fits in like a glove. Whatever happened to his mother is evidently not so important to him that he's mentioned it to anyone, or maybe a memory that's too painful to dwell on.
It's entirely possible that she just grew to be too disgusted with her man and his philandering ways to stick around. While Kellan hasn't exactly fallen into his father's habits on that score he also doesn't see why she didn't stick it out and clock his father good. Maybe she did. Maybe he just didn't change his ways. Assuming that's what occurred, and that's a big assumption. He's heard any number of stories about the whole ordeal, no one alike. So, that can all shaff off, obviously.
As a young boy he was precocious, dividing his time between the best tutors the Hold offered and lessons at his father's knee. Don't mistake him, he's had a world class education, but he's pretty sure that the life lessons are more valuable by far. He learned the way people are, and that's more precious than marks could buy. Firsthand experience beats out book knowledge almost any day of the week, anyway, and he's not picky on how that's acquired. Although he could have used his talents for good he never bothered. Plenty of other young enterprising lads to do that, hey? Besides which, that's exactly what his brother Z'el did with himself, and he never likes to be redundant.
Other: If his taste in music is any indication there may be more of a heart in Kellan than he'd like to admit. Additionally, he can be deeply possessive of what he deems to be "his."
