Physical Description: Ened has short chestnut-brown hair with warm and reddish tones. It's wavy, and she always keeps it chin length or shorter, not liking to bother with the fuss of longer hair. She has dark eyelashes that frame her light brown eyes, but not much else going on. She isn't the most feminine in appareance, seeming boyish, plain. She'd never claim to be a natural beauty, but it doesn't get her down. Who needs looks anyway?
Personality: Ened is capricious. Her mood turns on a dime. One minute, she'll be bright and cheerful, the next, seething with anger, the next, taken by inexplicable despair. She tries to hold it all in, projecting a stable and self-reliant exterior, but has trouble tempering her emotions. She's very empathetic, and is easily dragged along by the mood of the room, particularly when heightened emotions are involved. As an adult, she tries to avoid confrontation for this reason, steering things to a calmer conclusion before they get to that point. At least she's good at pretend. More than anything, she wants to be the kind of person people can rely on. She feels like she must always make the 'right choice', doing things people praise as responsible and good. She wants to be a credit to her parents, her Weyr. She wants to help.
Ened has a decidedly practical nature, scratching her head or rolling her eyes at those prone to use more flowery language, or pontificate on matters of art or philosophy. There's no need to over complicate things. On the other hand, she's good in a pinch, thinking through what needs to be done in a calm and straightforward manner, without panicking. Despite her worries and occasional fear of making the wrong choice, Ened has a lot confidence. She doesn't sweat the small stuff. She believes in herself and her own abilities, and plows right on ahead with whatever she sets her mind to, trusting her resilience and resourcefulness to catch her if she fails.
Ened is passionate about her craft, as well as her pet projects, and loves coming up with new ideas. She always trying to innovate, to improve. However, just as quickly as she gets into an idea, she may soon become bored with it too. Her workshop is littered with half-finished projects, and she jumps around between them, always saying she'll get back to it later. She is easily distractable and somewhat scattered-brained, finding it hard to concentrate on just one thing. Having someone she's working for helps narrow her focus somwhat, and she revels in being able to solve problems for people. Rather than buying people things that bring them joy, she tends to focus more on this. What can she do to make their lives easier? Is their some hardship they face she could ease? That's her practical nature coming back with a side of empathy. She doesn't just want to bring people temporary happiness, she wants to ease their worries in the long run.
Ened has a lot of anxiety and eagerness about taking care of her fathers. They're everything to her, and seeing one of them get hurt has really shocked her. With those she loves, Ened is utterly doting. As a close friend, she will always stick by your side, through thick and thin.

History: Born at High Reaches, Ened was just another creche-abandoned baby in a busy weyr. Her mother was a gold rider who didn't have time for a daughter, she never knew her father. But she was fostered by two lovely tanners, and she couldn't have asked for better parents. The two men had always wanted a child, and they raised her with the kind of confidence that comes from knowing you have parents who love you unconditionally. Even if their rank in the Weyr wasn't high, they never let her feel like she was worth less, and she never saw them that way either.
Unfortunately, not everyone in the Weyr was so kind. The sort to dig her heels in, Ened got into a lot of scraps growing, often with children up to twice her age. Several times they tried to put her down, and several times they failed, and her confidence only grew. But eventually, when her confidence overshot her ability, she started to lose. More than once, she'd come come home to her daddies with bruises on her cheek and cuts on her knee. But then she would train, and improve, and started winning again. And the cycle repeated.
When she was old enough to take a craft, Ened decided to pursue tanning, less excited at the craft itself than the prospect of making her fathers proud. Still, she likes working with her hands and, let's be honest, doesn't have the patience for some of the more artsy professions. She wants to make things that do stuff. Some people might call that simple-minded, but she thinks there's a certain amount of aestheticism to that too. Form follows function, as her craftmaster used to say. The purest form of art, then, is that which is useful. Or so she thinks. Tanning might not be the most glammourous profession, but it is a useful one! She likes that the things she creates are up there in the air, keeping people to their dragons. She is a fan of fixing things, and enjoys tinkering, creating new or clever fixes to a problem. She focuses more on leather-mending, a particular skill of hers, and makes a lot of the riding straps for dragons as well.
Of course, as soon as she was able, Ened started to stand as a candidate. She enjoyed tanning, but she wanted to be a dragonrider! It wasn't until some time after thread came, however, that her eagerness solidified to a single-minded determination. Her parents were out helping the ground crews do a sweep around the Weyr when her father stepped on a burrow of thread. Fast action was able to save his life, but his leg had to be amputated. Despite the tragedy, the two seemed to take it in good spirits, even making jokes about it ('you don't need legs to be a tanner, do you?' 'it's a good thing it was me and not you, I'd never be able to carry you up these stairs!'), but Ened was shaken. They were the two most precious people in her life and nothing should ever, ever hurt them. Now it wasn't just a career to her, it was her missions. She wanted to be a dragonrider!
It isn't just canddiacy that she's become more passionate about, but her craft as well. She likes to make things to make people's lives easier, and has made accessibility for various injuries a special pet project of hers, Though in the past, she's fed her tinkering obsession by buying the pieces she needs, she's considering taking up a new craft profession to help bolster her inventions, either glasscrafting or smithcraft. It would be nice to be able to create the pieces she needs exactly, and she feels bad always asking friends to do it for her.
