Ondine

Ondine was walking through one of the villages of Tale, traveling with her father on one of his trips. He was a merchant, so he traveled quite a bit through the northeastern part of Tendaji. Unfortunately, since some of her more recent incidents, he insisted she join as well. It was obviously an attempt for her to be babysat, as she couldn't quite escape his view when he forced her to his side. Add the random mercenaries he also hired to protect their troupe, and she really had quite a few issues attempting to get away from his view.

So, here she was in a village of Tale, her dark skin appearing to shimmer in the heat and with her markings. Looking bored and scratching at her close cut hair, she yawned a moment while her father stood a few steps away, making deals and glancing to her every few moments. And when he didn't look, their guard had a keen eye on her as well.

Oh what a bore.

Liio

Liio was old enough to wander about, and wander he did. A young and adventurous child, he often found himself exploring the village he lived in with his family. After a few months of exploration, it grew boring and stale...everything expect the marketplace. He told his parents of his intentions, and they seemed happy enough. His father would lecture him on safety and his mother gave a bit of a gruff response, but both cared and made sure he understood that strangers were not to be trusted. But that is why he loved going to the market.

Many of the travelers were from Tale and Jauhar, and a few from Sauti and even Zena. But sometimes, if he was lucky, there'd be a travel from the south. Obans and Matori, or even a stray Yaeli who felt brave but looked scared. He didn't understand it, but as a hybrid of such a strange background he was fascinated. It was rare seeing someone so unique, and he just wanted to observe and learn.

As he wandered about, he saw something that he nearly looked past. A shifter with dark buzzed hair. Maybe she dyed it. But as she turned, he noticed her eyes. Oh her eyes were so bright and like the burning sun. And her skin had speckles that matched the moonlight colors of her race. She was a hybrid! And not just any hybrid, but a Matori mixed with a Shifter.

Suddenly, he wondered how close he could get to really see who she was.

Ondine

Ondine was glancing at the weapons vendor to her right, eyeing it with her brightly colored matori eyes as she scratched her dark chin. Her coloring was quite striking, especially with her shortly cropped hair that showed off the special skull markings of her mother's heritage. As she was used to such oogling of those around her, she simply evaluated the swords, spears, and metal gauntlets. Oh, the gauntlets were so fascinating, and something she really did enjoy the thought of. Getting up close and personal, seeing the sweat on her opponent's brow, oh how interesting it was. Ondine grinned but didn't dare get closer...her father was watching after all.

Letting out another sigh, she rolled her eyes and glanced farther down the line, until she caught the gaze of a little blue boy with bright green eyes.

Immediately, Ondine made a face at the kid.

Liio

As he inched closer and closer, her skin patterns began to stand out. Liio was amazed at the appearance, at someone who was so different like he and his sisters. He began to gape, and that was when she turned and caught him staring. A long moment passed, with his heart hammering as he assumed he would be yelled at for being obnoxious toward an adult. Instead, she pulled a face, and he felt his own face grow purple. The blood underneath his skin warmed his cheeks, and he grumbled a bit before sending her a face back.

Then he approached, lifting his chin and calming his cheeks.

"Stranger." He softly called out, ignoring those around him and thankfully being covered by the hum of the market. No one seemed to notice, except for a burly man a few paces away from them, "Hey stranger!"

Ondine

Ondine laughed out right when the kid threw a face back, tickled a bit at how childish it was. Frankly, she was still a child herself, although she tended to fight more than anything. Thank goodness her skin seemed to hide the bruises during the day...and if it was bad she could flee to her room before the moon rose to show her activities to her family.

As the kid drew near, Ondine weighed her options. There was no harm in socializing with a youngling. Her father probably would see it as a more positive experience, as long as she didn't come off as 'influencing' the kid in an unsavory way.

As if he was old enough to be in anything more than a play fight.

"Wha you want, kid?" She asked gruffly, but not with malice.

Liio

Liio was finally close enough to see her, and he was still a bit taken by her skin. He wasn't sure what to think, with all of the spots. She looked like the stars, but he held his tongue. He wasn't going to spout out random nonsense like his father, his mother had trained him better than that.

"You aren't from around here, are you stranger?" He finally asked in response, glancing to her party and noticing a few regular shifters, "Your skin isn't like theirs..."

Ondine

"Of course I'm not like them." She said with a bit more clarity in her words, slowly speaking down to the boy as she glanced over him with amber eyes, "Jus' like you aren't like them."

She moved a bit away from the booth, waving off her guard and getting out of the clutter. She walked away toward the edge of the crowd, and assumed he'd follow as she raised her toned arms high, "We ar' h'brids."

Simple, to the point, obvious. They were different, always different, always unique. And often always looked down upon for being half of a race.

Liio

Liio seemed a bit taken aback, but following closely as she moved through the wave of shoppers. He glanced back toward the looming men around the shifter, and noticed they continued to watch. It seemed alright, and they weren't hiding, just finding a place out of the way of the bustle.

"Right, mommy and daddy seem happy with us, and our sister Tynn...but others aren't as happy." He remembered the looks, especially when there were strangers that noticed his skin with his bright eyes. It was different, not like the wind ice hybrids that were so common from the north.

Ondine

Tynn? That got Ondine's attention. Tynn was the girl she ran into ages ago, the fighter. Ondine narrowed her eyes slowly at the kid, trying to see his relation to her. Sure, she was a hybrid, but man did they look like complete opposites.

She found it hard to believe he was related to the spunky firecracker.

"Yer related to Tynn?" She asked slowly, "I dun believe it..."

Liio

"It's true!" He cried out immediately, before controlling himself with a bit of a scowl. He needed to be calm, like his mother, and not the loud mouth like his father. He wouldn't impress anyone with a hyperactive attitude.

"My sisters look alike, but I have mom's skin...but I am related to Tynn!" Suddenly he narrowed his eyes back at her, "How do you know her...?"

Ondine

Ondine leaned against a closed stall, the wood shifting behind her back a moment but settling all the same. She looked at the boy, with his pale blue skin and bright eyes, but still couldn't quite see it. Maybe it was the fact that Tynn was quite the opposite as him. Maybe she needed to see this other sister to see the full connection between the siblings.

"A'ight kid...don' worry yerself." She said slowly, before shaking her head, "Why are you alone anyway?"

Liio
Liio huffed again, trying to let it go like his mother always suggested. He was suppose to be smart, wise, and a leader...not an 'emotional fool' like he heard many insult others. Although he loved the emotions of his father. If he continued to push himself to be cunning and wise, he could accomplish so much more than letting the emotions cloud his views. With that thought in mind, he shifted and stilled, before shrugging once more.

"I'm old enough to be out, and there's nothing to worry about in the market..." He responded cooly, before getting distracted again by the speckles on her skin, "Are you being babysat?" he quickly countered, before looking back at the man who seemed to watch them through the crowd.

Ondine

Ondine stuck out her tongue at the cheeky little boy, shaking her head and letting out a huff of a sigh. Man, this kid was observant, and a bit of a brat to boot. Gosh, she never wanted to have kids if they acted like a cheeky little arguer. In fact, she wasn't sure why the thought came up, odds were she wouldn't have a kid unless it was to build up some sort of little army to get into trouble. Yes, she'd much rather simply be on her own and never worry about a brat sticking about.

"'course not, kid." She responded smoothly, glancing over at the guard, "My pa is a merchant, he needs protection for when he travels. Tha' man is simply keeping an eye out."

Really, they never used the guy, and she felt like she could fight off a cowardly band of thieves if she had to.

Liio

What an immature adult. She reminded him even more of Tynn, and he almost assumed she was close to his sister. Shrugging, he shook his head and glanced back toward the group of men before shifting slightly closer to Ondine. He didn't like how the man was looking at them, and wasn't really sure if she did either.

"So you travel a lot?" He asked slowly, focusing on the conversation, "Have you been to the desert in the south?" He heard stories, of course, but was always curious about it. She looked like the water people, so she had to have seen the deserts.

Ondine

"All over the place!" She said with excitement, her eyes lighting up as she thought about her travels. Sure, she was forced to be with her parents, but she got to see the world, experience new things, and meet all sorts of people. She shared the thought with Liio, grinning even wider.

"'ve been to the seas of Matori, and the jungles of Jauhar. Only place I haven't been is Zena...and tha' islands too...Yael and Belrea."

Maybe when she was older, and able to wander on her own, she'd make a point to travel out there and see if she could find people to spar. Or maybe she'd find herself some trouble closer, in the lands she was much more familiar with.
