Personality:
• Urbane- Loryan has picked up on the suave, sometimes courteous, and the refined manners of the Lords he has served. He practices daily on the chance to better his position.
• Insouciant- Whenever he comes across a situation that he’s not comfortable with or doesn’t understand he’ll bluff and show a casual lack of concern. Loryan can be quite indifferent when it suits him.
• Serious- He doesn’t like to jump into unknown situation or be rushed into a decision, so he’ll take each one as demanding careful consideration.
• Unhurried- Not much can light the fire under Loryan’s pants. Everything about him is slow and methodical. Rushing can cause regrets.
• Tough- Loryan is no push-over. He has the muscles to prove it. Life isn’t easy for someone as short as him. He’s experienced plenty of difficulty and hardships in his life and became all the stronger for the great determination to overcome them.
• Stiff- He is rather set in his ways, nor does he allow himself to be easily bent or changed. Some may call him stubborn if they are being polite. Loryan has also been known to take advantage of the naïve, particularly if it puts extra marks into his pockets.
• Discontented- Serving the higher ranked members of his hold, isn’t too bad a life for most. It’s not enough for Loryan. He wants more and he wants it all. If he could be Lord Holder then maybe he’d be happy. As it is, he’s open to other opportunities.
• Faithless- All for one and one for himself as Loryan says. No matter what he chooses it will always put his benefits first. He’s very unsuited to a partnership or girlfriend as he can never stay loyal to just one.

History: Loryan doesn’t remember much about his parents. They abandoned him at Fort Hold when he was barely a Turn old for only reasons they know. He was found crying outside the gates; when no one could locate his parents, he was brought before the Lord Holder to be decided what should be done with him. As there were no families that had recently lost a child, he decreed that Loryan would be under his protection. The young toddler was placed in the cretch with the hold’s other children.

As he grew the Steward took an interest in him. The older man adopted Loryan as his son and saw him raised to apprentice age. Because of his smaller stature than most kids his age, they felt they could get away with teasing him with impunity; which worked well for them while he was still young. Often he would lose those fights and come home with a split lip or black eye.

The Steward had married once, but his wife had died in childbirth. The babe didn’t survive either. He never found the will to remarry and so Loryan found himself as an only child. He liked to lord his adopted father over the other children when the adults weren’t looking. As he grew, his body converted the good food he was now getting into muscle mass. Loryan didn’t grow much in height, but he got the muscles to counter the teasing and he wasn’t afraid to use them.

He was never sure when he acquired his tagalong or how. One day he was on his own strolling about as he pleased, the next the younger kid tended to always be at his heels. At first he was annoyed. It irked him that this kid just thought they could tail him all day and expect handouts. Then Loryan found he could also use the kid in doing some of his chores or running errands for him. He decided to keep the kid around awhile longer, cause he really didn’t have to put anything in except a treat here or there.

His adopted father started him working in the kitchens as soon as he was old enough to lend a hand. Simple things first, but gradually more complex. Loryan informed his adopted father that he really didn’t have a knack for cooking, but he’d like to maybe try serving. He took eagerly to the lessons to get him out of the kitchens and into the view of those higher up. Loryan was smug when he was recently finally given permission to wait on the head table.
