Species name: Txori (TUR-REE)
Language: The native tongue, Txorian, is quick and sharp-toned. Speaking in Common, there is a distinct sharpness to the pronunciation.
Government: The government can be classified much like a Tribal Monarchy. They have a Grand Chieftain and they can be of either sex. The first born children take the mantle after a leader's death, or in lieu of a child, nieces and nephews of the previous leader. If the people come to dislike their current leader, then there can be formal challenges issued; these are very rare, as leaders strive to keep peace. Local chieftains exist but ultimately answer to the Grand Chieftain.
Culture: Arts are the focus of their society. Even things such as new technology and scientific breakthroughs are treated as masterpieces. This translates to clothes and any bodily modifications. In civilian clothes colors and patterns are key. It is not unusual to have head feathers and wing feathers to be dyed bright colors and patterns. Entertainers tend to be the highest form of fame other than the government. Men and women are of the same social status within their class. Naming tends to be a first name, two middle names expressing lineage, and a family name.
Planet: Their homeworld, Avaravia, is a very mountainous jungle world. Cities are built along these mountains and the easiest way to access things is by flight. There are accommodations for non-flying visitors or younger of the species to use if not carried by someone. The temperatures run warm in summers and mild in winter, with snow only happening on the highest peaks. The atmosphere is designed for oxygen-based breathing. The jungle below the mountains are considered dangerous and are avoided. This is where most of the wild creatures live occasionally being harvested for food.
Mating/marriage customs: They are an open society and have no laws banning any particular kind of marriage. With each biologically-compatible family averaging three to five children, population is not an issue. They are not mammals and resemble Earth birds in how, biologically, young are produced. Advances in technology have helped keep mortality rates of infants down.
Technology: Despite building cities on mountains and still having tribal leaders, they are quite advanced. They hold a strong edge on the hologram and virtual reality markets, and are always looking to improve the programs and technology. Entertainment and technology careers are the highest-paying jobs one can have. Starships tend to be large with open layouts to allow for flight.
Religion: While not forced by the government, it does influence the justice system. The main religion is a monotheistic one, where the deity's name translates to “Mother”. She is believed to have been the planet's creator, and designed them through evolution. Texts of their religion had originally been found in mountain caves which serve as religious houses, which they refuse to touch with their technology. It's a strongly held belief even if one does not actively participate in religious acts. The belief also holds that murder is the worse crime usually resulting in a death sentence. Lesser crimes like thievery result in mandatory recompense, usually in the form of temporary servitude. As it is believed, balance is an important subject in their religion, therefore, it is important to return someone equally for the disservice."
Appearance: They are humanoid in the sense that they have two feet and arms and stand upright. Their backs and posteriors are where wings and tails are located. They are more bird-like with the lower half of their bodies, with the bipedal legs and talons. Faces tend to be short with noses being beak-like, but head shapes are not too different from humans. They range in colors, not unlike Earth's birds-of-prey. Most other races consider then to be an attractive species. Women do not have breasts as they are not mammals, but are more bird-like in physiology they range in height ftom 4'7" to 5'3" coming a bit shorter than many humans
Growth and Education: They are not born able to fly, but immediately start growing in the flight feathers soon after birth. As such the wings look small. They are fully matured in five years of age, but lack the physical strength to fly until about age ten. The lifespan ranges from approximately 125 to 150 Earth years, largely in part to modern medicine. They begin their education at three and go until adulthood at twenty; this includes career training as well.
Diet: They are omnivores, but prefer vegetarian lifestyles. Meat is not refused but not sought after.
Views on other species: They bear in mind a race’s societal norms, but choose to judge on a single member than a group as a whole. Other species assume they are pacifists, though they prefer not to fight, though they can be ruthless when they do. They usually fight in the protection of themselves or others.
