Ginger Root was on route to the lake of Fish Bones for the second time in her life, though perhaps you could say the third. Before she was born she and her like-aged siblings had been blessed there by the handsome stag. She’d visit again with her mother in later years before the birth of her younger aged siblings and there she would stay, totally enthralled with the older buck… until the next morning when a message from her tribe would call her back for an all hooves on deck situation.
Ginger sighed aloud, earning a quizzical look from her younger sister.
“Is everything okay?” Came Morning Light’s soft voice. Ginger smiled brightly in return and bumped her shoulder into Morning’s affectionately.
“Of course! I was just thinking. Did mother ever tell you about the time she tried to play matchmaker for the Legendary we’re traveling to see?” Ginger grinned at the bewildered expression Morning’s face reflected.
“Goodness! No! Did she really?” Morning could scarcely believe it, Ginger had to be joking, she knew their mother had great respect for the MotherFather and her blessed, surely she’d never presume to…
“She did! Though I really wouldn’t give her too much credit,” Ginger continued, carefully causal. “After all, we had an instant connection.”
“We?” Morning blinked, her mind turning over Ginger’s words with difficulty. “You… no!” She gasped, scandalised. “You mean…?”
“Yes, indeed!” Ginger smirked, eyes gleaming with mischief. “And he was fantastic.”
“Oh my goodness, Ginger!” Morning Light shook her head and clenched her eyes shut, desperately willing the image from her mind. “How am I even going to be able to look him in the eye knowing that?”
“Same way you manage to look I Will Work Harder in the eye.” Ginger teased. “Or have you avoided his eye ever since the reason we’re here occurred?” She continued, side eyeing Morning’s newly swollen belly.
“Oh! You- Just hush!” Morning hissed, thoroughly embarrassed as they finally stepped into the clearing, looking out towards the lake now before them. Ginger giggled, all formality and grace cast aside for excitement and giddiness to see a past lover again.

“Ah!” Ginger bounded forwards and nuzzled at Fish Bone’s cheek for a moment before swiftly falling back into step with her sister. “It’s wonderful to see you as well! And my, are you a sight for sore eyes after our travels.” She grinned with unbridled mirth, enjoying in equal parts her sister's likely internal mortification and the handsome sight before her.
Without her mother residing over her and with a bit more age and experience behind her Ginger had grown considerably bolder and more self assured since the last time they’d been together. And, she glanced at Morning out of the corner of her eye, being a big sister to her mother’s younger clutch had helped too.
“This, is my darling baby sister, Morning Light.” Ginger introduced affectionately, earning a rather unimpressed glance from her sister. This wasn’t exactly to the etiquette standard their mother had drilled into them but she’d roll with it, after all her sister was well aquatinted- oh dear motherfather, no, don’t think about -
Morning Light bowed politely and for perhaps a little longer than necessary to regain her composure. Rising, she greeted the stag respectfully.
“Fish Bones, it’s an honour to meet you. I feel I must first thank you for the blessing you offered onto our mother in the past, for myself and all of my mother's children.”
