He'd returned to his waters. It had been too long since he'd skimmed through his dream waters. He'd grown nostalgic for the brief adventures he'd shared with his favorite dreamers, his life on the outside world proving too stressful to step away from. More monsters had invaded the city, the innocent and unprotected remained at risk of perishing at the hands of such creatures. Not to mention, well, midterms... but alas, that was the life of a college student housing the body of an Elysion Guardian. But tonight, at long last, he'd returned. Waist deep in water, sandy blonde hair was pushed back and out of his face while his other hand began to brush against the sea's surface, searching for familiar faces within the images that came to life.

It was one of the first nights home since she'd been by the hospital and every part of her still ached. Her pride was the most wounded, the teenager thought as she laid in bed, contemplating her choices and how she hated that she hadn't been strong enough to even come close to holding her own against the amazonian woman.
Bob had been right, she was no lady. She was merely a foolish child who thought herself more capable than she truly was.
Sleeping was hard, because finding a position that didn't make her ribs ache or her limbs throb was nearly impossible, but Rory was stubborn and was determined not to take her pain medication. That was just as dangerous as starseed consumption, which she couldn't even do now that she knew what they meant.
The idea of stealing someone's chance at life again was too horrifying for her to ever consider putting one in her mouth.
By the time she'd finally fallen asleep, she was restless and it showed in the churning waters of her dream. Waves crashed harshly against rocks that jutted up out of the ocean and the sky above was dark, a storm threatening the horizon.
Rory - no Hydra as she always seemed to be in these watery dreams - found herself atop a rock that jutted out just right so she could lay across it, jade eyes watching the choppiness of the waves around her and the lightning that crackled in the air. Her heart thumped against her ribs when she shifted, twisting to find that she didn't have legs in this dream world, despite the crack in her chest and forehead and the sweeping twists of braids that tamed most of her hair that was too long to be manageable.
No, instead, she had a long tail that matched the color of her hair. "Well, that's new."

Blue eyes lit up as he recognized one of the many faces among the gentle waves. His glove pushed the others aside as teal hair fluttered in the breeze, the young woman resting atop a rock with.... Oh. It was endearing, really, to see someone other than a child dream of mermaid thoughts. Child-like wonder tended to dominate the fantasy worlds, so it was refreshing to see someone so close to adulthood dream of something similar. If anything, it presented the perfect opportunity for him. "Perhaps your innocence has yet to disappear among the darkness, Lady Hydra." His voice was soft, spoken to no ears but his own. Within a few moments, he'd submerged - blonde hair disappearing under the surface of the dark blue sea. ~ The darkness was coming - but not the sort he'd been expecting. There had been lightning in the glimpse he'd seen, yet he failed to realize how dreary the weather truly was in her dream until he'd made his appearance within it. As his head bobbed above the water, the wind whipped against his small, bald head and sent a shiver down his pinniped spine. Diving back under the water, the small white seal thrust forward with his flippers, sending him directly towards the mermaid's rock, where he hesitantly poked his whiskered nose out to investigate. Large black eyes blinked and looked up at the Lady of the Rock. Letting off a small whine, he revealed his presence to the young woman.

Her stomach was pressed against the wet rock when she twisted, body rocking in a strange way as the tail flopped with her movements. Fingers grasped uselessly at the edges of the rock, slipping whenever she tried to pull herself further up and, with an annoyed huff, she rolled back over on her back. Long hair cascaded around her, some falling across her shoulders and down her torso while the rest of it seemed to fan out around her, pooling against the surface she laid back on propped up elbows, wisps swirling in the churning water that raged around her.
Jade eyes were affixed to the tail what she lifted up to the best of her strength to observe the large fins when the peeked out of the water.
Odd, yet there was a tugging sensation that felt right for reasons she didn't understand. Regardless, the corrupt could tell that this wasn't reality, she wasn't a mermaid nor was she stranded in the middle of the ocean. Even if she had been - she would have been able to teleport now, wouldn't she?
Her stomach muscles were straining from the effort of holding her heavy tail up and her broken ribs all but screamed at her and she dropped the limb, sending a splash of salt water high into the air, splattering across her. Sputtering from the salty water now in her mouth, Hydra made a whining noise, wiping at her face uselessly with the sudden trickle of rain that had started from the dark and looming clouds above.
The white and bobbing head in the sea of darkness startled her and, surprised, Hydra made an attempt to scramble further up her rock. The idea that simply slipping into the water and swimming away failed to occur to her.
Black eyes stared up at her and wide green ones stared back. "Oh. Uh, hello?" She said tentatively, sliding back down her slippery rock so she could reach a hand out to the creature. "Aren't you cute?"

His head tilted as he watched her curiously and once the teal mermaid finally acknowledged him, he let out an appreciative, happy sounding chirp. A bruised hand extended itself out as she stretched to reach him, so he made no hesitation to scoot forward in the water, pressing against her rock to allow gentle fingers to feel his wet head, his black nose and the long whiskers that sprouted from his cheeks. The seal gave her palm a nuzzle and a kiss (or as much as a seal could manage, that is), before chirping in her direction again. Seal's Eye hadn't noticed the many bruises scattered across her arms on their last meeting. Had they been there before? No...no, he would have noticed a fair amount, like she currently wore across her arms, her face, her.... The seashells and pearls covering her breasts failed to cover the dark patch across her stomach and a particularly nasty looking bruise running up her side. It was alarming, to say the least. Yet for her to still have dreams like this... He did his best to waddle onto the rock alongside her, only to turn and leap down into the salty water with a large splash. Repeating the process two more times, he called out to her again, beckoning her into the water with her new, flippered friend.

Hydra pet the seal much like she would pet a cat, uncertain if there was any type of protocol for her new animal friend. Blunt nails, because she always kept them short, gently scratched as the seal's skin, a happy gasp of surprise when he kissed her palm. Despite the ache in her small frame, a large, delighted grin spread across her mouth.
She was twisting, reaching across her torso with her other hand to possibly drag the creature closer for what would have constituted as a hug but her little friend was bouncing away, splattering her face with a spray of water. Despite her surprise, the girl was laughing, something about her suddenly lighter mood softening the anger of the sea.
"Hey, wait!" She called after him, reaching and wincing when a particularly sharp edge of her rock pressed against her bruised torso. Hissing, Hydra drew back and the sky seemed to darken again - a loud crack of thunder exploding in the air. Her palm pressed against the black and blue mark and she bit down on her bottom lip, resisting the urge to cry out in pain.
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, she tried to tell herself.
When it pain subsided to a dull ache, mermaid Hydra wiggled into the water downward, sliding off her rock and into water that seemed to ease the heat that radiated from her. Swimming with a tail was more awkward that in might have been with legs, but she used her arms to propel her closer.
"Come back!"

As she finally slid into the water, the seal let out a triumphant ork! in appreciation for her act of courage. He was proud - she'd been hesitant in her dreams before, but she was slowly accepting the idea of challenging herself. One couldn't learn to swim without getting wet first, after all. She called to him and he complied without pause, wriggling his chubby form across the surface of the water as fins pushed his blubbery self towards her. The seal stopped a foot or so away, choosing instead to splash back and forth, showing his excitement for her joining him in the water. He was mindful not to overwhelm her or push her too far - the Lady Hydra would need to be willing to submerge herself before he could assist in guiding her further into her own dream, where anything could await them - adventure, beauty, peril - all possible within the creative mind of the young woman who floated in front of him.

Struggling to treat her newfound fins as anything but the legs she was accustom to, Hydra struggled to swim forward even in her attempts to chase her seal companion. Legs moved individually but this limb was one thing and she couldn't quite figure out how to make it do as she wanted.
Why hadn't she watched more shows featuring mermaids?
Yet - the seal was swimming back to her to her delight and she grinned at it. Until it was fleeing from her again, splashing water up in a manner that had the girl laughing. With every bright bubble of laughter that slipped from her mouth, the waves seemed to calm and the clouds lightened. "Hey!" She gasped, no heat in her voice, but playful amusement instead. Taking a deep breath, Hydra dove beneath the water and focused on using her tail properly to push her forward.
When she came back to the surface, she was incredibly close to her animal companion.
"You remind me of someone," she said wistfully, jade eyes scanning the choppy seas in hopes that her dream prince friend would surface. "I hoped - " she sighed, shook her head, long locks floating around her in the sea water. "Come here will you?" She reached for the seal again.

Her hand extended itself out again and this time, he allowed himself to drift within her reach. The poor, sweet thing was still attempting to figure out how to swim and while it amused Seal's Eye to no end in the endearment of watching her, he knew she could probably use some assistance... or at the very least, a fuzzy companion. Chirping, he bobbed forward and pressed his small black nose against her cheek, his whiskers twitching with his nostril's movement. He spread his fins out and pressed against her, allowing himself to become a buoy of sorts, if need be. Hydra was a clever girl - she was looking for the Guardian to help protect her. Only, the Guardian was already there... more or less. He smiled to himself, biding his time until the right moment to reveal his impish little secret.

Her animal companion kissed her cheek with his nose and earned a bright bout out laughter. Compared to the ocean's water, seal's nose was warm and Hydra did her best to return the gesture by pressing her chapped lips softly against what she thought was the animal's forehead.
As her heart felt lighter, so did the dream's environment. No longer were the skies tumultuous and gray.
Staying afloat was significantly easier now that she had a cute blubbery seal to cling to, even as her mermaid tail moved back and forth beneath the water's surface. Floating and treading water seemed to be easier than swimming at least and she sighed contently.
"Do you see a lot of mermaids little friend?" She asked, tugging the creature closer so she could rest her cheek against the top of his head. "I bet they're better at swimming that me, but this tail is so long."

The seal nodded its head, as though it clearly understood her dilemma. Perhaps it did - it was a dream, after all. Turning over onto his back, his flipper raised out of the water and he slapped it against the surface for emphasis, as if reiterating her statement about having long, awkward fins. His was at least flat across the surface on the end, as opposed to her split tail. Glancing over towards the mermaid senshi, black eyes blinked at her expectantly. He breached the water with his tail again, the sound loud and booming as it slapped the water a second time. Then a third. His head bent up, nose pointing almost as though it were gesturing towards his movements and was insisting for her to repeat them. Then, gazing back over towards her, Hydra might even think she saw the little seal wink at her.

Her seal friend turned in her hands and she squeaked, small fingers sliding across a slipper surface but she was laughing, sounding happier than she had in months. The girl behind the senshi didn't have very many friends, between her sometimes snappish attitude and her ever filled schedule, and she was rather lonely. It hadn't helped, the onslaught of insults and accusations and then -
That stupid foolish argument she had gotten in with Bob and her recklessness.
Her feline companion had been right, she was a foolish child.
Seal's slapping of the water surprised her and she let go of him, shrieking in surprise when she lost her concentration and nearly submerged herself in water. Despite knowing she was dreaming, she burst back to the surface with a sputter of spitting water and coughing. Ugh, how embarrassing.
"Sorry, sorry!" She said hurriedly, making sure she was floating on the water safely. "Are you - are you trying to teach me how to swim?"

He couldn't fault her for enjoying herself - after all, wasn't that one of the sweet, wonderful perks of escaping to a dream? Running away from responsibilities, from duties and the danger of heartbreak. The flippers on both sides of him rose up to slap together like applause - the only thing Seal's Eye could think of to do, honestly. It was almost awkward - what had begun as a curse had slowly been embraced as a gift, though without any true natural seal instincts, he was simply a man posing as an animal ---- which was weird in itself to dwell on. Pushing his bottom fin, he tried to boost them both forward a tad, just to lead by example. The size of her fins outweighed his short and stubbier one, but he was determined to help her in any way he could.

Grinning broadly, Hydra clapped her hands together in response to her seal friend's applause. "It's probably good that I found you instead of..." she trailed off, glancing down at the rippling water that sloshed around them. "Imagine, finding me when I can't swim."
She laughed, pushing at the water with her hands while she still clung to the seal, long tail moving in awkward ripples as she tried.
Why did it always look much easier when someone else was doing it?
Eventually, she finds her tail rhythm enough that she feels confident when she lets her animal companion go. There's a split second of hesitation before she chooses to dive beneath the water surface and truly swim.
The water is cold at first, hair whipping around her as she swims deeper, eyes wide and open as she realizes she can breath beneath the water surface. Bubbles escape her mouth when she tries to laugh, delighted by this discovery, and she looks immediately for her seal friend.

He watched her with swelling pride as she took the plunge on her own and dove under the surface. Hydra's words hadn't been missed by the small animal, Seal finding himself curious of how the statement would have ended. Nevertheless, there was a mermaid on the loose that was in need of guidance! Dunking his own head under the water, the white seal wiggled his way downwards, using his fins to propel himself towards the turquoise mermaid descending into the depths of her own dream's waters. He let out a bark to assure her that he was nearby, before sidling alongside the young woman and giving her as much of a smile as a seal could manage. Corkscrews and flips were the next trick of the moment, the seal excitedly doing both for his Lady's approval, fins and flippers spinning happily with the movement. Keeping her distracted, the Dream Guardian was busy adding his own delightful additions to her dream - large, colorful coral decorating the bottom of the ocean's floor with an array of beautiful creatures weaving in and out of the branches.
