Cassandra took a seat in Eddies pretty little car. She had to admit, he was not what she had expected from her next employer. They were usually gang members or low shot criminals who didn't want to do their own dirty work. Mr E was different, and she kinda liked him. Well she liked him enough to convince him to come to her apartment for dinner, and she was thrilled that he had accepted her invitation. She was quiet most of the ride there, only talking really to point him in the right direction. Soon, her home popped up on the immediate right. "Just here," She told him in a perky tone of voice. Whilst Cassandra did live in the Diamond district, it wasn't the most pleasant of areas. What with all the crime in Gotham, the only difference was that the council kept Diamond looking a little tidier. At this time of night, coupled with the fact that her apartment was only three blocks away from the park, the streets were empty. Cassandra unbuckled her seat belt and got out of the car, heading for the door to the building where she used her pass key to buzz them both through the doors. Security had been tightened lately, and Cass was mostly grateful for this. Though it did make hiding her toys more difficult.
"I live on the top floor, but if the lift is working we should be able to avoid the stairs," She explained in a chipper tone. Cassandra was pleased, and therefore she was happy. She walked forward, her heels clicking against the stone floor, in order to press the button to the lift. The woman turned to Eddie whilst they waited. "Have you thought about what you would like to eat?" She asked him softly, placing one arm carefully on her hip.
It was then that the lift arrived on the ground floor. An elderly gentleman who's age was clearly over retirement, wearing nothing but an open bath robe and underpants, whom Cassandra recognised as Mr Von- Rottluff from the floor below hers. Despite the excessive drinking he was a kind fellow, and often brought Cassandra muffins when his grand-kids came to visit. His wife on the other hand was not so nice, and seemed to disprove of Cassandra. "Oi Miss DuBois! Haven't seen you in a few days," He bellowed, taking the cigar from his mouth. Cassandra merely smiled at him. "Good evening Mr Rottluff, I've been busy as of late, I trust Greta is well" She greeted. "Good to see you, good good, she's well, won't stop badgering me for an 'oliday, but they cost an arm an' a leg you know, and I aint no rich b*****d! I won't stop you long anyway, looks like you've got another fella I see," He winked at her dramatically before patting her on the shoulder, assuming that the pair must be dating. Cassandra wouldn't debunk his theory, usually letting people come up with their own story is the best way to make it believable. That and she kind of wanted it to be true- if she was completely honest with herself. "Good luck with this one eh?" He continued. "I'll be sure to see you around, you're a lucky man," He said to Eddie before walking on past them and out of the doors. God knows where he was headed. Cassandra smiled as he left. "See you soon," She said with a small wave before getting into the life and pressing the number six. "Sorry about that!" She chuckled, watching the doors close in front of them.

It was strange to have company in the driver's seat of his private car, though he couldn't deny that she looked good in it. An amused smile crossed his face when she chirpily point out her home to him. It was hard to believe that a killer was hidden under all of her cheer and frill. Upon arrival at her apartment complex, Edward examined the building and noted that he was, in fact, paying her more than she was used to-- though he didn't doubt she was worth every penny.
Cassandra caught his attention as she began to speak for the first time since they had left Cathedral Square, her tone bright and energetic. "I could fix it if it isn't." He assured her with a smile. Machines were a fun puzzle to solve now and then. "No, was I supposed to?" He asked, finding it a little funny that she'd invite him over for dinner without knowing beforehand what she would prepare. With his personality-- that would never happen on his end. He was always over-planing everything down to the finest of details.
Before she could answer, the lift arrived and a silly-dressed man stepped out. It was clear from the look of delight on his face that he adored Cassandra. Who wouldn't? Edward listened closely as the two of them exchanged small-talk. When the old man referred to Edward as 'another fella', Edward looked to him with an expression of apprehension just as the old man gave his slow, dramatic, suggestive wink. She must be the only action he sees around here. For the old man's benefit, Edward offered him a small smirk and a secretive wink as he was congratulated for being Cassandra's 'fella'. Edward tipped his hat to the old timer as he watched him leave... he stepped into the lift after Cassandra as the doors closed behind them.
"So the competition is Mr. Rottluff... challenge accepted." He teased. "Does Greta know that you've been having an affair? Or was that a TV remote in his pocket?"···ʇɐɥʇ əɯ əๅppıɹ ʻsıɥʇ əɯ əๅppıଧ ¿ʇɐq ʞɔɐๅq ɓıq əɥʇ ɟo pıɐɹɟɐ sˌoɥM

Cassandra chuckled lightly. "Well no, but I don't usually invite employers over for dinner," She explained. "I just needed an excuse to get you here," She turned to look at him with a smirk, just so he's know she had won this match. "I'm sure I can rustle something up," She assured him as they waited for the lift. In all honesty, Cassandra had no idea what she was going to make for them. Perhaps a roast dinner? Yes that sounded nice! She was used to having one every week, on a Sunday and hadn't had one in quite a while. Roast dinner it was!
The encounter with Mr, Rottluff had not been unexpected. The man often tried to escape the confines of his wife's apartment by wandering about the complex and almost hitchhiking in other people's apartments. Two years ago, he had come to Cassandra'a apartment armed with a chess set and some Doritos. Naturally, Cassandra had dropped everything to play with him- he had always been so kind.
Cassandra laughed, prodding him in the stomach playfully. "Don't joke, he's just a friendly neighbour. Only six of us live in the entire building, so we buddy up- and not in the manner in which you so annoyingly just implied" She explained, not even wanting to think about what he had just implied. Her tone, as ever, was still jolly, showing him that she wasn't annoyed in the slightest. In fact, his joke had quite amused her. "He often fails to notice, that the men and women that stop by my apartment don't often leave with their wits in tact," Cassandra smiled up at him, before the doors to the lift opened and the pair were greeted with a long corridor. Cassandras apartment was the last room at the end of the dingy corridor, on the right.
She walked on ahead, so she could unlock the door for them. Although the apartment complex itself was, dirty and in need of a serious makeover, Cassandra's room was wall to wall baby pink. Most items of furniture were vintage and the room itself was spotless. If the room were to be searched by the police, chances are they wouldn't find anything. Even if they did locate the safe. "Make yourself at home." She told him, removing her coat and hanging it on the rack. "Can I get you a drink? Tea, Coffee... Vodka?" She took off her heels as she spoke, giving him various suggestions.

The fact that Cassandra's invite to dinner was only a ploy to get him to her apartment triggered his investigative mind. What does she want from me? He wondered. She wasn't the type of woman to be lonely unless she meant to be, and hopefully she wasn't going to kill him...
It was sweet that Cassandra had a small attachment to the place and gallantly defended the old man's honor. A side of her that suggested she was capable of sentiment-- which Edward took careful note of. "Oh, good. I was bluffing. I find Mr. Rottluff's jovial friendliness intimidating. And it would just be a hunch, but I have a feeling that you got rid of any and all competition to set foot here personally." Though, as he stepped into the apartment and looked around, there was no evidence of foul play anywhere in the sight of the naked eye.
Edward took off his hat and hung it with his cane and coat on her vintage coat/hat rack. Removing his shoes, he slid them side-by-side underneath the rack and wondered how many dead man's shoes had sat in that very spot... as eerie as the thought was, it intrigued him and he knew he just had to try and figure out her body count at some point. No doubt, if he ever spoke with Mr. Rottluff's sweet Greta, he would have it...
From her wide selection of beverages, Cassandra proved to be a practiced hostess. Huh... she really is a professional. "Coffee, please. Black." He replied, making a slow and curious walk around her sitting room. There were many petite pictures of her and perhaps some of her neighbors sitting in delicate, decorative little frames on her mantle, accompanied with a thought-out arrangement of glass figurines and small keepsakes. She seemed to favor the Victorian era and perhaps a little of the Baroque. No sign of a struggle in this room-- or excessive cleaning for that matter.···ʇɐɥʇ əɯ əๅppıɹ ʻsıɥʇ əɯ əๅppıଧ ¿ʇɐq ʞɔɐๅq ɓıq əɥʇ ɟo pıɐɹɟɐ sˌoɥM

Cassandra wondered if he was doubting himself. Wondering what she was up to? Only to an individual experienced in her line of work would be suspicious of her, albeit others may find her choice of decor and clothing a little odd, but otherwise she was, on the outside completely ordinary. "He's a grandpa, he's always jolly," She told him with a chuckle. "And the children are just adorable!" Cassandra was fond of children, despite how her career as an assassin has begun when she accidentally killed one of her pupils... but it was no matter as long as her desires were kept at bay. In fact; she had baby sat them on many occasions to earn some money when times were hard.
Cassandra skipped away to the kitchen where she boiled water in her little flowered teapot. When that was finished, she placed it on a tray with two mugs, a bowl of sugar, a small jug of milk and two cookies. Whilst the kettle was boiling, Cassandra put the potatoes in the oven. They would take the longest to cook, and she had already cooked the chicken (so she could have it in sandwiches). With that, she wandered back into the living room where she put the tray down on the coffee table. "It's ready," She announced before walking up behind him to see what he was looking at. He seemed to be admiring her little trinkets which she had laid out. Most of them were just for show, but some of them she really loved. She chuckled, before turning to take a seat in one of the pink arm chairs. "Please, sit, the food will be ready in about forty minutes," She said with a smile as she poured milk and sugar into her coffee and stirred it for a few moments before lifting it to her lips. Cassandra was nothing if not polite.
Usually her meetings never got past the coffee. If she brought the victim home to murder them, they were normally dead ten minutes after entering the room. In an apartment complex like this, she needed to use methods that were quiet and the least messy. Her preferred method was poison, followed by strangulation. Not nearly as interesting as using a knife or a gun, but sometimes she used these items for effect. Afterwards she would put the body into her bin so she could take it outside without looking so suspicious, masking the smell with perfumes and incense. Sometimes people offered to help her carry it and take it to the garbage site. Often telling them that she re-purposed old furniture, and threw out any spare parts. As long as they didn't look she was safe. Occasionally her employers would come for the body, but that was rare. Sometimes, if carrying the body would look too suspicious, she merely hid the body in one of the vacant rooms until it was - or someone found it.

Turning from Cassandra's trinkets, Edward sat in one of her plush pink chairs and took up his cup of coffee. Taking the time she had given him until dinner was ready and the time that she promised she would have him fed by, he nodded gently, mentally noting that it was well-timed. There was a thought in the back of his mind that she may have poisoned his coffee-- but he doubted that... not when he was about to pay her enough to take her interior decorating to the next level. Smirking to himself, he drank some of the coffee and set it in his lap. "You make me feel like I should hire a decorator at my own home." His manor, though built for a large family and had the layout to entertain guests-- was far from hospitable. Not to say there wasn't furniture-- there was-- but it was all very practical and minimal at best. Less to dust. Not that he personally dusted.
He took another drink of his coffee and enjoyed the smoothness and strength of it before setting it back down on the serving tray, most of it gone. The cups were petite, like most everything else in her apartment. His eyes met hers and he rested them there. "I'd dying to know... what is your favorite way to kill someone?" He asked, leaning forward slightly. "You'll have to forgive my morbid curiosity... but if you tell me yours, I'll tell you mine. How's that?"···ʇɐɥʇ əɯ əๅppıɹ ʻsıɥʇ əɯ əๅppıଧ ¿ʇɐq ʞɔɐๅq ɓıq əɥʇ ɟo pıɐɹɟɐ sˌoɥM

Cassandra sipped her coffee slowly, her legs placed daintily beside each other. She was watching him closely, his every move. Cassandra always did this, people watching was her passion. She wanted to know how people reacted in certain situations, what they did when they were uncomfortable or mad or scared. Scared was easy. They'd either scream and thrash or do nothing at all. But the others required more delving. She was no psychologist, but her lack of ability to feel on her own made her more and more interested in the subject. She would observe people the majority of the time, and it made reading people easier. Their little quirks. Were they right or left handed? Happy or depressed? An innocent or a murderer? It was all so tricky, like trying to thread another needle every five minutes, but it was exciting. People didn't know she was reading them, feeling what they felt, knowing their desires. Edward was harder to read, but she would attempt it none the less.
The woman took another sip of her coffee before smiling at his comment on her decorations. "I like pink," She told him with a chuckle. "And once you've got a colour theme you're good to go, though it is very Victorian in here, minus the television, but I like it," She shrugged in a cutsey manner with a small smirk on her face, taking another sip of her drink. She assumed she also had more time on her hands to decorate than he did. "As for a decorator, i'd be happy to design a room for you- as long as you like pink vintage," She winked, her tone of voice slightly sarcastic.
Cassandra caught his eye as he placed down the cup. What was he thinking. She raised an eyebrow at him without breaking eye contact. "Penny for 'um," She asked with a chuckle, and he was quick to answer. Cassandra opened her mouth a little, as if she were offended. "That's a mighty personal question you're asking," She said folding her arms and crossing her legs. She had found, that when people adopted this stance they were closed off, not open. Nervous. She tried not to smile. "But just for tonight I'll play your little game, as long as you pinky swear not to tell, it's quite a sweet little tale!" Cassandra chuckled, uncrossing her arms and legs, sitting on the edge of her seat ready to explain herself. These were things she had never spoken to anyone about, in fact she had never even written them down.
"I think nowadays they're calling me a sociopath; because ever since I was little I haven't really been able to feel. and I've never really understood why people cared so much about little things," She explained. "But when I killed for the first time, which was an accident by the way, I could feel what they felt, and it was exhilarating. I thought I was mad if I'm perfectly honest, and I ran, and killed again, this time with a knife, straight across the throat." She mimed the action, "It was slow and I watched every second of it, watched the lady bleed out, and I could feel again, and now- I can feel what everyone is feeling all of the time, if I'm close enough to them, and I can replicate it, which is why you feel so comfortable around me," She said everything with a smile, in a slow, descriptive sort of voice. "So to answer your question, what is my favourite method of murder? Anything intimate, anything close and quiet. A gun wouldn't cut it for me, it's too quick. Poison works wonders!" She exclaimed, her eyes wild with excitement for a brief moment. There was a few moments of silence before she spoke again. "What about you my sweet, what's your dirty little secret?"

A smile grew on Edward's face as she accused him of asking a 'mighty personal' question. "I'm afraid you'll find most of my questions are." Small talk was a waste of time to Edward. Small details he could deduce on his own in any given situation. It was the small details that always lead him to the bigger ones... the fascinating ones. From her body language, Edward rightly braced himself for her to deny him the satisfaction of knowing the answer to his question-- so it was a sweet release when she opened up to him so enthusiastically. Not wanting to miss the smallest detail of her tale, he inched a little closer.
He listened intently as Cassandra painted a beautiful image of her psychosis for him. A sociopath... what a beautiful mind. He thought silently to himself. Edward himself was fascinated by the human mind and how it functioned. The way people were in their last moments was very revealing. Potent. As much of a thrill it was for Edward to hear her story, he also felt a sense of insecurity in discovering her ability to feel emotions. Edward himself was not the most stable of people. He only let people see what he wanted them to. Cassandra was intrusive and manipulative. His smile turned into a grin as he watched her delight in telling him her favorite murder methods. As morbid as it may have been, he found it darling how sorted she was. Taking the lives of others to have a fuller life for herself. One that was not void of human emotion... as would be her fate otherwise. "You are a masterpiece..." He complimented, infatuated with her all the more for her mind.
"Of course. I'm a man of my word." Edward was always sure to play by the rules and he made a promise. "I myself am fascinated by the human mind... I would say that I'm only a boarder-line sociopath if I were to have an official psychosis." He told her, sitting back in his chair. "People, by nature, are small minded. Most spend their lives without purpose or reason. If I kill someone it's simply because they've lost their usefulness to me and it is usually quick and painless." He admitted, knowing it was probably a bit of a letdown that he wasn't as morbid as she was. "I can't say that I felt anything the first few times I killed someone. After all, it was just the logical thing for me to do. But, in answer to the question, what I do enjoy is when I play with them first. I love to put people in situations where their lives depend on their ability to problem solve. The fear, the desperation, the panic... it takes a tole on the mind. If I ever come across someone who has the mental capacity to keep their wits when death faces them, I sometimes let them live as a reward. The one's who crack under the pressure... I'm sorry to say but my weapon of choice is a gun. I love blowing their brains out and watching them splatter all over the walls and pavement." He told her with a content smile and a shrug. "It's ironic, really. Why have a brain at all if you don't use it?"···ʇɐɥʇ əɯ əๅppıɹ ʻsıɥʇ əɯ əๅppıଧ ¿ʇɐq ʞɔɐๅq ɓıq əɥʇ ɟo pıɐɹɟɐ sˌoɥM

It felt strange to let all of these kept up feelings out, even if they weren't her own. No-one but the two sat in her living room knew of why she killed, and her motives and she merely hoped this didn't give him any sort of sick leverage over her. She narrowed her eyes slightly, glancing over to him to spectate his reaction. Cassandra could almost feel his heart beating with fascination and some sort of excitement from across the room. A masterpiece? What a strange conclusion to draw. At least he didn't test and torture her like her psychiatrist once had. She remembered it vividly.
She remembered the building to be tall, white, huge and surrounded by at least a mile of barbed wire. She remembered her mother's fear as they walked up the steps- she was just sixteen years old. They'd been trying to figure out what was wrong with her for years to no avail, but this doctor claimed to have some tests he wanted to try on her. He wanted to make her cry. Cassandra sat in a room alone. When she was alone, and showed the images of the tortured animals, she had no reaction. Cassandra merely sat their watching, uncaring. However when another individual sat in the room with her- she would have a visible reaction similar to theirs. That was when Cassandra learnt of her gifts, She was special, not crazy. The doctors claimed she had some sort of emotional empathy towards others- which of course made her the perfect candidate for teaching. She had hidden her condition as best she could but eventually, she stopped feeling all together and she had to do something about it.
The woman, eager to hear his side of the tale too, listened very closely, sipping her coffee every few seconds until it was finished and she placed it down on the table. It seemed Eddie was just like any man, they wanted gore, or if not a quick and easy death- they didn't really want to punish their victims. Murder was a task, not a hobby to him which made sense- especially since he had hired her to kill for him. Perhaps they would have a good relationship- provided that he didn't get bored and kill her before they got the chance. Cassandra noted that he said he didn't feel anything when he killed at first. What no remorse? No guilt? That's what normal people felt... right? She had to admit that everything in his story seemed to check out. Right down to the detail of judging individuals worth based on their ability to stay focused when faced with death. That in itself was horrific, something Cassandra thought she might try one day. It kind of reminded her of the Saw films. "Live or die... make your choice..." She said with a smile, looking up at the ceiling."I normally kill in this room, hence why a gun is a little too obnoxious, still I guess it could be fun- occasionally," Cassandra clearly disproved, though how he preferred to kill was of little consequence to her- as long as she wasn't on the receiving end of the barrel. "I must admit you are more than what I expected. I may be a masterpiece but you are truly remarkable." Cassandra told him, looking back at his face.

Catching her line as a movie reference, Edward grinned. "I'm hardly a serial killer." He assured her. As he had said, he was only partially a sociopath for his ability to rationalize his killings-- but killing wasn't a hobby. It was an occasional necessity in his plans. He nodded gently at her reasoning. "True... perhaps it's a good thing that I don't have a lot of decoration in my home. I rarely kill my staff, though. They usually stay dumb but there are a few who pick up bread crumbs and need to be snuffed out. Last week I had a maid who got smart. It's ironic really, I usually award the clever, but in some instances, they're a hindrance." He thought out loud, his eyes resting on Cassandra. His smile grew when she complimented him. "I'm glad that I haven't disappointed you. You're no disappointment either."
Disappointment was something that he had dealt with from a very young age. He still remembered his parents in detail. Their desperation, their addictions-- the look of helplessness when he was taken from them. He remembered their hope-filled letters full of lies that told him that things were looking up and that they would come back for him soon. They never came. They were still alive and he knew exactly where each one was. Being taken from them was the best thing that had ever happened to him, but it was hard to see it that way at the time. It would have been the logical thing for him to do... not to feel anything. All of his feelings of abandonment, resentment, anger, hurt, confusion, helplessness, loneliness, fear and separation anxiety had all been a waste of time. Cassandra, though-- her mind was ideal. Calm, logical... Edward was jealous.
"You must find people ridiculous." He pointed out with an amused smirk. "Making so many rash decisions in moments of emotional instability." It was more of a question than an observation. "Of all of the emotions, which of them is the most difficult for you to grasp?" He was curious to know.···ʇɐɥʇ əɯ əๅppıɹ ʻsıɥʇ əɯ əๅppıଧ ¿ʇɐq ʞɔɐๅq ɓıq əɥʇ ɟo pıɐɹɟɐ sˌoɥM

Cassandra smiled. "I reckon if you've killed more than ten people, that makes you a serial killer- but of course- tell yourself what you wish," She winked at him. Cassandra had never really put a word to what she was before. But she preferred Assassin, simply because it sounded better than murderer, if she advertised herself as a murderer- no-one would trust her enough to hire her. Trust, was something she could understand. Cassandra raised an eyebrow as he mentioned a 'maid'. She had guessed that he was rather wealthy. In fact, she could have guessed that from simply his scent, but she hadn't assumed that he would have staff! Her little home must seem awfully depressing to him. "Well next time you find a smart one, don't kill them, just send them here and they can do my cleaning," She suggested with a chuckle. She was only half joking.
Suddenly, a little shrill timer rang in the kitchen, alerting Cassandra that the food was ready. "I shall be back dans une minute," She told him hopping up from her chair and scurrying into the kitchen. It only took a few minutes for her to set the dinner out, before waiting a few more for the gravy to dissolve. She put that in a little gravy boat and put it on a tray with other condiments, bread butter, salt, pepper and a bowl of Yorkshire puddings and stuffing balls. She placed it on the table before heading back to the kitchen to fetch their plates. "It's ready," She said, poking her head back into the living room. Cassandra sat down herself, and waited for him to join her.
Cassandra smiled at him. "Not ridiculous as such, if they can't control it whats to do!" She explained. "And we all make silly mistakes, even me unfortunately," The woman frowned, taking the salt in her hand. "I mean look at you, you can feel right? And you're not that ridiculous," Cassandra had never thought this through really. While yes she did get rather frustrated at indecisiveness simply because they want to keep everybody happy. The blonde looked up resting her elbows on the table as she thought of an answer to his question. "well... sadness is the easiest. Everyone is sad these days- I can't go anywhere without coming away a little down trodden," She shook her head with annoyance. "Which I guess makes the hardest for me to actually feel... happiness, it's so much easier to make people sad than happy I guess, happy is too much work, takes too much time." Cassandra pursed her lips, knowing she hadn't really answered the question, but she knew that her answer might hurt her feelings. She chuckled for a moment, remembering that she didn't care. For a moment, just a moment, she had. "I don't understand love... affection that kind of thing I guess," She said, taking a bite of her meal as though it didn't really matter. "It's difficult to explain," She sighed putting her head in her hand for a second before straightening up. The logical solution was just to feel what other people felt when they loved someone. But other people could never replicate a love Cassandra herself would feel. So, essentially, for Cassandra to love someone- she would have to find someone that utterly loved that person as well- simply so she could feel love. Which of course, would never work, as without that person there, Cassandra would just feel... nothing.

As logical as Edward was, he was also egotistical enough to not attach any negative descriptors to himself. When she pointed this out, he noted her ability to do so. "I do." He admitted. His definitions were as good or better than anyone else's in his twisted mind. Edward hadn't considered sending his staff away rather than killing them. Mostly because they could continue to deduce elsewhere. Sending them to his personal assassin seemed safe, though since she could kill them for him if they did. "I'll have to consider that as an option."
It was fun for Edward to watch Cassandra get dinner assembled for him. It was a flattering gesture... he had had many meals prepared for him, but this one felt more personal. As much as he hated to admit it to himself, he longed for this kind of attention. Joining her at the table, he decided to enjoy it while it lasted... which, sadly, wasn't long as their conversation reminded him that Cassandra was incapable of sentiment. Perhaps this was another thing he would have to lie to himself about-- which of course would ultimately lead to a very unstable relationship.
He chuckled as she tried to spare his feelings by saying he wasn't 'that' ridiculous. "I'll take it." Cassandra, despite her lack of understanding emotions, showed at least some consideration for them. Which in and of itself was impressive. Edward listened carefully as she spoke of sadness and happiness. There was an palpable pause before she went on to love and affection. Her body language suggested that she was giving it real thought and she had no reason to be dishonest in her response. Even so, judging by her sigh, the topic was one that she didn't enjoy for one reason or another as she turned her attention to her meal.
"Even people who do experience a wide range of personal emotions have trouble feeling or understanding love and affection." They were difficult, complicated emotions. He himself was unsure if he had ever felt love before. Affection, yes. Love-- he was sure he had loved his parents blindly at one point in his life, but it was a long time ago. If it was love, it was conditional and temporary. A grin crossed his face at the thought. "Emotion is hardly a real science. It's too temperamental to be duplicated on demand." Trying some of the food, he again wasn't disappointed. "You're a good cook." He complimented.···ʇɐɥʇ əɯ əๅppıɹ ʻsıɥʇ əɯ əๅppıଧ ¿ʇɐq ʞɔɐๅq ɓıq əɥʇ ɟo pıɐɹɟɐ sˌoɥM

Cassandra watched him as she ate her food. She wondered what he was thinking, whether he understood what she was talking about. Whatever was wrong with her, Cassandra had never been open about it before, and though she thought it would make her feel better- she simply felt exactly the same as she always did. Empty. This is why she needed him, she needed to have a purpose. And whilst she didn't feel anything for the man sat in front of her, he did come with a pretty nice pay check which of course Cassandra valued over human affection. She'd tried dating, lord knows she'd tried. It didn't do anything for her.
"That's not what I meant," She said with a slight frown, though she let it pass. If she couldn't understand what it meant or even felt like to love somebody, how could she explain it to somebody. And she felt as though she had opened up enough for any one night. His next statement bothered her slightly though she didn't voice her concern. Emotions weren't temperamental, not when for you they didn't really exist. Cassandra worked on a motor, powered by food and her desire to kill- and the various other mental health issues that came with all of that. She had been sure, years ago, that she did feel and she merely told herself that she was depressed or lonely- but none of it was true. She had been somewhat fuelling herself on the emotions of others, surrounding herself with positive people. When she isolated herself, she recognised that same void that greeted her almost every single night, and it wasn't just loneliness. Ordinary people feel lonely, sad, depressed. Cassandra just felt nothing. This didn't make her sad. There was nothing. Emptiness. Cassandra could only learn to read emotion, and copy it. Simple as. And for some unknown reason this blessed her with the ability to feel, but only what other people could feel.
"Why thank you!" She said with a smile as he complimented her cooking. "Do you wanna know a fun fact about this apartment?" She asked him sitting back in her chair for a moment. The things she was about to tell him were morbidly amusing to Cassandra. She wondered if his emotions would change once she got a little darker. It was always fun to play with people, and Edward seemed like a challenge. "Six men have died in that chair," She claimed, nodding towards the chair he was sitting in. "I kept a list if you want to see it," Cassandra smirked, wondering how he would react. Oh, and the list wasn't just a list of names either. This wasn't just a job to Cassandra.

"No-- I know." He told her, turning his attention from his food to her. "I was avoiding your meaning." Against his better judgement Edward had dared to let himself hope that she could potentially be capable of loving him. He had wanted to let himself imagine it for a moment longer, but it didn't work. "I wish you--" He paused and re-phrased his reply. "I understand your need to use others to feel. If you didn't have even a vague idea of what you were missing, it would be different I'm sure... but for my purposes, I'm glad that you're just the way you are." It was both the truth and a lie. He was glad that she was available as an assassin, but still a little disappointed in knowing the truth about her situation.
He paused as she brought his attention to the chair he was sitting in. "Six... you don't say." Edward smiled at her skeptically. "What a 'fun' fact. You certainly have an interesting choice in words." Having dinner with a sociopathic killer was something he would have to cross off his bucket-list, if he made it out alive. Which he planned to... he could only hope that that was still her plan as well. His mood perked a little when she mentioned the list. "Yes-- please. I would love to see it." He told her with a grin. Despite his slight discomfort, he did like the idea of knowing a little more about the men who died in his dinner chair.···ʇɐɥʇ əɯ əๅppıɹ ʻsıɥʇ əɯ əๅppıଧ ¿ʇɐq ʞɔɐๅq ɓıq əɥʇ ɟo pıɐɹɟɐ sˌoɥM
