Sorrel was lazily floating along the 'river' that runs through her garden, Frogs Rule the River sitting up on the bank watching her. The green doe had come down to shoo Sorr's brother off. He'd been fretting over the crocs, and telling his sister a pregnant doe shouldn't be swimming anyway. Like he thought Sorrel would be diving and flailing around. And from the tone of Sorrel's voice, her brother hadn't stopped bugging her since she got pregnant.
Frogs doubted the pink doe needed protecting. Not only had she lived in this spot for most of her life, this wasn't her first pregnancy. Still, Mugwort had only agreed to leave his sister be when Frogs had promised to stay around watch her. After he'd left, Sorrel gave the green doe a smile, and a "Thank you." before slipping into the water.
Neither doe talked much, Sorrel because she was tired of hearing voices, and Frogs kept quiet to give her friend some silence. Normally they'd chatter together for hours, Sorr about her garden - or more recently, Drifting Brother - and Frogs about the happenings in the lake. Which is what the 'river' actually was. But because of several islands in it, this section looked very much like a river, so that's what Sorr called it.
Sorrel had suggested Frogs go off, no reason to keep her here to babysit. Frogs didn't have much to do though, and liked the quiet companionship Sorr offered. "Besides", she'd said, "If I go off and Mugwort finds out, next time he won't believe me." Which made sense, and her friend being close gave Sorrel some comfort. A nice relaxing feel to take her mind off Mug and the babies and what might be. All those what ifs piling up.
